10 Biggest Bargain Transfers in History

Recommended Posts

I don't think you can call any free transfers bargains, obviously anything free is a bargain, but then you don't know how much it actually cost in terms of wages.

Someone like Joe Hart was a bargain as they spotted his potential and picked him up cheap, you could say that Bale was a huge bargain for Spurs, 7 million seemed a lot to start with, but they sold him for over 10 times that amount.

Apparently we got RDL for £1 so they didn't have to pay Stoke anything as part of a sell on clause, and paid 2 million for James. That is a bargain...

Anyway transfer fees these days are largely bollocks as they pay to buy out the contract rather than assess the value of the player. If we buy Campbell for 600,000 it is a bargain, but only because he had a buy out clause.

Patrick Viera - Juventus to Arsenal - £3.5m

Alan Shearer - Southampton to Blackburn - £3.6m

Vieira came from Milan, he moved to Juve from Arsenal for about £15m I think.

Behave, today 3.6 mill wouldn't get much, but back then it was a huge amount of money, not far off the record.

The Anelka signing was a real bargain, when you think he helped them to a league and cup double and then got sold for 44 times what he was bought for.
