Dawko Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 We have to encourage more young, hungry for success and local players into the playing squad. We need more players who actually care about Leicester City, have grown up in the area and even support City as fans. Less multi million short term foreign imports else we will never see the likes of Shilton or Lineker again.
foxfanazer Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 Unfortunately that's just not the way football is. It would be great if we had 3 or 4 local players but we have to recruit the best players we can to be successful

It does not matter one iota if that player happens to be a 19 year old from Leicester or a 28 yea old from Leipzig.
indierich06 Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 I agree with other posters - we should be getting in whoever helps us to succeed. However, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't do more to try and produce local talent. Now that we've got Academy 1 status, we should be able to attract more talent from around the country, but if the club can do more to invest in youth sport in Leicester that would be very welcome and would be a great move IMO.
davieG Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 Shilton and Lineker who both moved on as will any decent leiceter lad when the chance of bigger bucks and trophies comes calling.
Voll Blau Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 If we lived in an ideal world the OP would be completely right. But we don't. I'm satisfied that most of our squad are genuinely proud to call themselves Leicester City players at the moment. Liam Moore's comment a few months back that he wants to play 500 games for us is a fantastic ambition to aspire to. Got so much time for players who aim to be one club men (same goes for King too).
sylofox Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 Liam may have said he wants to play 500 times for us. But really if Man City came along offer him 200k instead of 20k the chance of winning the prem champions league the FA and league cup. Who really thinks he'll say sorry I want to play 500 times for LCFC so can you come back then. He will also get pressure from the England set up to be playing at the highest level Ok he will praps turn down England as he is at a higher standard already.
shade Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 England are hot garbage so I wouldn't worry about pressure from them. ideally, 5 players in each team should have been born within a 50 mile radius of the ground.

Along with Bobby Kellard, he was a massive idol of mine. Pint sized geniuses!
Dawko Posted 27 June 2014 Author Posted 27 June 2014 I remember Willie Carlin well because he went into a tackle when I was watching at Filbert Street, I was right at the front near the tunnel when the ball came off him and smashed me right in the face and he came over and asked me if I was ok?

Great guy. Sent me his autograph and a get well message when I was in Stoke Manderville hospital. For such small framed men, he and Kellard, were a vital cog in getting us promoted again, to the top division.
