Nigel Pearson confident his Leicester side can cut it in the Premier League

From the Daily Star:

NIGEL PEARSON insists newly-promoted Leicester can cut it in the Premier League - despite not spending a penny on transfer fees this summer.

The Foxes boss has stuck with the squad which cruised to the Championship title last term.

Matt Upson, Marc Albrighton, Ben Hamer and Jack Barmby have all arrived on FREE transfers - but Pearson is ready to spend £7.5m to prise striker Leonardo Ulloa out of Brighton.

It will be Leicester's first season back with the big boys in a decade.

However, Pearson reckons his squad have what it takes to live with England's elite despite being tipped for relegation.

He said: "I believe we have a squad which is capable of making the transition.

"We are not going to dominate like we did last season, that goes without saying.

"But there is an air of confidence among the players that they believe they have the ability to perform. I fully agree.

"I think we have a number of players who will do very well for us in the Premier League."

The Foxes have been handed a nightmare start to the campaign.

Four of last season's top seven - Everton,Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United - await in their first five matches.

Leicester's Thai owners have made no secret of their grand designs for the Midlands club, having vowed to spend £180m to realise their goal of a top-five Premier League finish within three seasons.

But Pearson insists it is all about survival this term.

He said: "I have been asked if staying up is just enough and that has to be the bottom line.

"I think, more importantly, the players have a belief and the staff have a belief in the players that they are capable.

"A top-10 finish would be huge but we have to make sure our first goal is to establish ourselves in the Premier League."

If he's says what we have is good enough, it's good enough, just hope he's right.

I have my doubts, but he has more to lose than I do, if he's wrong.

Long as people don't hit the panic button after 5 games and put pressure on the owners I think we will do ok.

Personally think we will pick a few points up in the first five games some of them squads will have players still away after TWC.

Sure Ulloa (if we get him) will not be the last piece in his jigsaw either.

Probably a couple more foreign low key signings. Can't see much beyond that at this point.

After 5 games? There's people on here hitting that particular button before 1!

I hope he is right because the less he does the greater the pressure on him.

I'm sure Pearson hasn't nothing to lose whatsoever. If he is sacked at christmas, he walks with 5million and back with a championship club within a month

Really! surely this is a chance for him to prove himself on the biggest stage and failure for a guy like Pearson doesn't taste nice even with a big payout afterwards.

Between these 2 well answered posts is the reality.City have spent 12-15 years spending money on players, just for the sake of it, we have replaced, like for like too often.Developing, evolve a system, with plan A, B even a C.

Is the way forward.

Pearson has said it all. He will be content with survival next season.

He also talks about a top ten finish as well, and that the players believe they're capable of succeeding. For me, the article says that survival is a must, but it's not what we're aiming for. We want to exceed expectations.
