Games like this often make me wonder why we overhype the premier league so much, when in truth is a very average league, yes this Barca side are good, but they're a shadow of the team they were a few years back.

We hype the Premier League because from first to last it's of a higher quality than any other league in the world.

There isn't really another league like it, only La Liga and the Bundesliga get close.

Fact is that Man City have dealt with this badly and they've caught Barca on a good night.

Saying that Barca are a shadow of the team they were is a bit redundant considering they were the best team thats ever played the game, well in my opinion anyway.

Any team that has a front 3 of Messi, Neymar and Suarez being fed by Iniesta, Rakitic and Busquets is going to score plenty of goals.

city have been tactically horrific. and performed awfully too. barca are better than them for sure but there's ways to close the gap in quality, and to give them all the time in the world and let them show their quality is not one of them.

I love the prem in terms of entertainment, don't think anyone says it is better quality wise. Although arsenal are class when they play well and are the real credit to the league imo.

Man City without their best central midfielder in a 4-4-2. What chance did they really have here? This is a complete mis-match and it's showing. Barcelona have been fantastic here. Superb to watch. It's like they're back under Pep.

I don't believe that for a minute, I think teams like Sevilla would beat Southampton and Malaga would comfortably beat the Stokes and Swanseas.

The standard of games I watch in the bottom half of La Liga looks higher than ours from my viewing.

I think this best from top to bottom stuff is nonsense and if they played i dont see any reason to think results would still not favour Spain like they do in the CL and Europa when our teams meet. Players like Boyd, Schulpp, Delaney and Alex Bruce wouldn't make a living in La Liga.

Power of marketing. La Liga's a mile ahead of the Premier League in terms of quality.

You mean like nearly every time an English side plays a formidable foreign outfit?

Messi again playing well against a top English side. Obviously he'd struggle against us, Burnley, QPR, Villa and Hull.

Malaga have recently been in the Champions League, you can't really compare them with Stoke and Swansea. As for Sevilla beating Southampton, I'd like to see them try.

It's prettier football in Spain but i'd fancy us to win more games in La Liga than the Prem.

The last sentence is pointless. The leagues are totally different. Prem relies on athleticism, La Liga on technicality.

Kompany is so painfully overrated. It's all very well turning up against the lesser teams but he's a liability against the better teams.

Agreed, particularly last couple of seasons. I would say Sergio Aguero is the only 'top' class player city have. Tour and silva on their day but they rarely turn up against the best.

We see this argument every time an English teams loses in Europe yet I rarely see anyone claim the premier league is the best league in the world in terms of quality.

Don't think that anybody doubts that the Premier Leagues quality has fallen off a cliff since it's complete domination during the late 2000's.

But these things are always in flux, there will be good years and there will be bad.  What remains true is that the Premier League is the biggest league in the world by an absolute country mile.

Barcelona look fairly athletic tonight.

Sevilla beat Valencia, Porto and Benfica on the way to the Europa League last season. I don't think they'd be shitting themselves about Southampton.

I just think it's a bit embarrassing how for a league that spends so much more than any other league every year, how little our sides seem to do in Europe, Chelsea maybe an exception but even their CL win you can't really put down to being brilliant, that was a one in a thousand run.

it's always going to be a pointless argument that goes round in circles. everton have absolutely battered wolfsburg home and away in Europe this year, would they be the second best team in the bundesliga? would they **** they couldn't even beat us in either game this season.

random one off ties where team x beat team y does not and never will prove that one whole league is better top to bottom than another.

also who gives a ****? really?

Southampton have beaten United and Arsenal away this season.

They've also lost to Burnley. (And they lost at Arsenal)

Are Man Utd really being held up as something special these days?

Sevilla lost to Getafe lol

United are 3rd in the Prem and if you're comparing to Valencia and Benfica then yes.
