roblcfc84 Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Announcement next week do we think? I think it's wages pure and simple - opinion only - maybe the 45k isn't too far away and NP was reluctant to pay but now feels it's time to get it done.
ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Have we all got a little bit carried away with his name? The last time he played for Argentina, Matt Upson was in the England squad. He's been playing in Seire A, not as good a standard as the Prem or La Liga, a league where Adel Tarbatt and Sulley Muntari play CM for the top teams. Why hasn't he signed for anybody else? What has he been doing all summer? at his age how long will it take to get him up to speed? I would be much more excited if we were in for a up and coming player in his position from a top team who was in need of a good seasons experience in a top league, like Van Ginkel at Chelsea, Zuculini at Man City or Rafinha at Barca. Players that could come in and play straight away and every week.
mozartfox Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Even if he does sign he is for sure not match fit, meaning we go into the next few games extremely light in midfield, if both Drinky and James need a couple of weeks to recover. We may forced to bring in an alternative or loanee who can slot straight in.
Nalis Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 200 pages? Was thinking the same. Gonna try to put myself on a self imposed ban on this thread until I hear something on SSN/BBC. Wish me luck.

Jace Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Last week I was 99% sure this was going through, now I am a deflated 50/50

Not really - he was a quality player and by most accounts he was still doing very well as of last season - yes, he's not played for Argentina in a few years, but the difference between that and Upson is that Argentina have a load of talented midfielders - Upson essentially got in on the basis of being a name Capello had vaguely heard of, and there being not one good centre back available, and has since been left out due to dropping down into the championship and the return to the old "are they english, do they play for a top 7 side" approach. Cambiasso meanwhile has faded from the national side because of the amount of talent Argentina have there. As for serie A not being as good as La Liga or the Prem - how much of it have you watched? It's still a good league, and besides he's also been playing in European club competitions - definitely good enough for what is realistically going to be a relegation battle. Teams have come in for him in Spain and Italy (Sampdoria and Valencia have been mentioned) and he's rejected them because he wants to try himself in the premiership.
MHC Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 With not long to go in the transfer market I think Nigel has got to give Cambiasso an ultimatum. Sign or we will go elsewhere. I'm not worried either way, at first I was very excited about signing him but the more I think about it the more I think he's not that good. Let's face it if he was Tottenham would have signed him ages ago, something doesn't add up with this player.
65RosesFox Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Lets get real about this............. Yes he did play for Argentina but the last time he played, Matt Upson was in the England squad. He's been playing in Serie A for years. A league where nowadays Adel Tarbatt and Sulley Muntari join their "big teams" as big signings. He's 34, not many players excel in the Premier League over this age. I'm probably being a little negative but let's put it into perspective! Have we all got a little bit carried away with his name? The last time he played for Argentina, Matt Upson was in the England squad. He's been playing in Seire A, not as good a standard as the Prem or La Liga, a league where Adel Tarbatt and Sulley Muntari play CM for the top teams. Why hasn't he signed for anybody else? ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 By top teams, you mean they both played for AC Milan last year who finished 8th. Yep a bit like Man U who finished 7th over here....
ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 I knew this sounded familiar... Just re-iterating my point! ha ha. This thread has gone crazy so I thought I'd throw it out there again.
Lord Nibblington Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Yep a bit like Man U who finished 7th over here.... And based off last season and from what it seems yesterday, I wouldn't actually class Man U as one the Premierships top teams based on their current players at the moment. If you want to class them as a top team off their history, like Milan, then that's different. Would you class Southampton as a top team? I mean, they finished 8th, same as Milan, but in a League that you yourself have stated is superior to Serie A.

Capello picked his squad based on "players he vaguely heard of".....I don't think so. Serie A - watched a lot last year on BT Sport. Not a tough as league as ours/Spain by a country mile! Gervinho looked world class in it last season. Teams have come in for him in Spain and Italy and he has turned them down.......is this fact? or what you read in the paper.

Not doing well at the moment..............but look at the last 20 years. You don't suddenly become a mid table team in 1 season following that history, although they are trying their best!

You don't suddenly become a mid table team in 1 season following that history, although they are trying their best! You're confusing stature and their current squad. They're Europa league contenders at the minute.

Teams have come in for him in Spain and Italy and he has turned them down.......is this fact? or what you read in the paper. Every manager has done that for as long as I can remember - England have long had a problem of selection on name ahead of ability - it's why no matter how poorly they played together, Lampard and Gerrard was an undroppable "partnership". You're exaggerating - it's not quite on the level of the premiership or la liga, but it's far from poor. It's what's been reported across the board about him - all transfers that don't come off are just in the end column inches, that doesn't mean they were never even happening.
Lord Nibblington Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Man U are a top team full stop. Not doing well at the moment..............but look at the last 20 years. You don't suddenly become a mid table team in 1 season following that history, although they are trying their best! The Liverpool of the early 1990s might disagree with you. In terms of teams, you would suggest that the current Man Utd squad have the same strength and depth of Man City and Chelsea? Arsenal and Liverpool? Spurs or Everton? Where would you put them? I mean, which of those sides are you most concerned about us facing this year? I know personally I wouldn't put United at the top of my list and I think outside of some of their forward options United are something of a paper tiger, I think you're confusing being a top name with being a top team. But that's neither here nor there. Your reasoning for questioning Cambiasso is you're suggesting that Taarabt and Muntari are starting CMs for the top teams in the league he's coming from., which I think is somewhat misleading. Since they both played for the same team and that team struggled to an 8th place finish last year - it's hardly like they're considered the shining example of a CM in Serie A and I would venture to suggest that they're not exactly top names for a top team. He's potentially joining from a team that comfortably finished 3 places higher than your example of a top team. Just doesn't really add up to me.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 One minute I'm some kind of Foxestalk Don, capable of making people attack someone without saying a word, the next I lack mental capacity! You couldn't make this stuff up, well no actually YOU could. Not inferred swearing, actual swearing the site blocks it out. I'd rather it left it in so you know what I think of your pathetic comments. Rather than bumming off col, perhaps you should ask why such mild mannered people like Fez were even thinking he was being a bit of a clown. Clearly you haven't even read the thread, so it's not even worth engaging you. Err, yes I have read the whole thread, and many were mild mannered, but others were not, including yourself, but you don't have the balls to admit it. Col was trying to discuss a point or two, but some people, like yourself presumably, are unable to debate. As I said, I hit a nerve, and clearly jarred your fantasy ego .It is blatantly obvious that you don't like being contradicted, but sadly these things happen. Why not continue to sit in your "ivory tower" and attempt to mull over the rudiments of your vitriol. Perhaps a few more swear words will ease your agitation.
sphericalfox Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Isn't tomorrow his birthday? I hope the club have got him a cake
