ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 The Liverpool of the early 1990s might disagree with you. In terms of teams, you would suggest that the current Man Utd squad have the same strength and depth of Man City and Chelsea? Arsenal and Liverpool? Spurs or Everton? Where would you put them? I mean, which of those sides are you most concerned about us facing this year? I know personally I wouldn't put United at the top of my list and I think outside of some of their forward options United are something of a paper tiger, I think you're confusing being a top name with being a top team. But that's neither here nor there. Your reasoning for questioning Cambiasso is you're suggesting that Taarabt and Muntari are starting CMs for the top teams in the league he's coming from., which I think is somewhat misleading. Since they both played for the same team and that team struggled to an 8th place finish last year - it's hardly like they're considered the shining example of a CM in Serie A and I would venture to suggest that they're not exactly top names for a top team. He's potentially joining from a team that comfortably finished 3 places higher than your example of a top team. Just doesn't really add up to me. "In terms of teams, you would suggest that the current Man Utd squad have the same strength and depth of Man City and Chelsea? Arsenal and Liverpool? Spurs or Everton?".............Never suggested this. I'm simply saying Man U are a top club, easily they could buy well and be a Champ League team again. "Your reasoning for questioning Cambiasso" ok fair enough, how about this? A player named Gelson Fernandes left City in 2012 and walked into a Serie A team that finished 3rd that year in the league.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Getting back to the subject, I think the Cambiasso saga will continue this week with some more drama, and maybe more attempts by Pearson to procure more signings. As deadline day gets nearer, the scenario should become quite exciting. Some turn up for the books is possibly just round the corner.
EGBFitness Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Just because this deal seems to be dragging out, how do we know when the deal came to light that it wasn't at very early stages of the negotiations which is why Pearson was so annoyed regarding the leak? I've got to admit when I first seen we was first interested I wasn't too bothered, I thought he was coming out of retirement to play for us. As the week had gone on and the hype had built I did get a little excited but I'm starting to come to the conclusion again now after our performance yesterday do we really want him? There's obviously a reason there's still been no confirmation by both parties, here are the reasons I no longer want him here- 1. Delay in confirmation from player himself 2. Wage- if he will achieve what's been suggest, what should suggest he should achieve more than what other 'top earners' achieve? 3. Harmony- it's clear to see our team is settled and everyone plays for each other... Will he be here for the squad or the money? 4. Quality squad- from yesterday's performance and without some key players playing yesterday against a good top 6 prem team, we do have a good squad that are able to do a job for the team when required... Although we need some more depth I'd rather see us make some young loan signings or a signing that will be wanting to play for the team like rest of the squad rather than an over paid player that's looking for final big wage. A lot of people will disagree with this post but is he going to pull in the shirt sales etc like what many would think, his no Beckham/Lampard that has got big followers, a lot also suggested that we should of signed Ferdinand but with his performance yesterday and how well Wes and Moore played, would people still want him here? The way to keep pushing this club forward is keeping with the signings like we've been signing for the last 18 months. Old has beens here for a pay off is not the way forward and we should of learnt this lesson from the last time we was in the prem 10 years ago!
TMELcfc Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Serie A, I agree, is not in the same class as EPL, however, the bloke has world cup and champions league experience. The one thing I don't think we had much of yesterday was composure on the ball. This wasn't helped with us losing James and Drinkwater, I know, but we did struggle to dictate the play. Surely Cambiasso, however old he is, will be a composed figure in the middle, which will settle all of those around him? (In other words, I hope we sign him!)
Jace Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 I'm surprised its taking this long considering time is not on his side
MC Prussian Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 I'm surprised its taking this long considering time is not on his side Two words: Javier Zanetti.
MC Prussian Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Oh, and has anyone mentioned this BBC report from yesterday yet? http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28823844 "Whether we can do the deal depends on things I am not prepared to talk about," Pearson told BBC Radio Leicester.
ElusiveEd Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Mmmm, Yet another theory thats prob wide of the mark..... Did I read somewhere that it was Mourinho who recommended NP and Leicester to Cambiasso? Maybe signing later in the week that makes him unable or match fit to play against Chelsea?

st albans fox Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Once he finds out we have fanni in the dressing room, he'll soon sign
Harry - LCFC Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Two words: Javier Zanetti. So every player makes it to 40 do they? At the age you simply don't know how many years you've got left. One exceptional example doesn't prove anything about another individual.

One exceptional example doesn't prove anything about another individual. I can give you a few more examples: Thierry Henry, Andrea Pirlo, Alessandro Del Piero, Walter Samuel, Paolo Maldini, Filippo Inzaghi, Francesco Totti, Alessandro Nesta, Antonio Di Natale, ... And the list goes on. These are players that have gone past the 35 and still done more than reasonably well on both a domestic as well as a European level with their respective clubs (sauf Henry, of course). Esteban Cambiasso is closing in on 34.
PAULCFC Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Everyone is right in this thread, except Col saying Middlesborough is a wonderfull city.....That's it my 1000 post and i'm out of her for a bit

theessexfox Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 Oh I thought it was done and dusted the other day and we were meant to be wildly celebrating - wasn't anyone who wasn't a pessimist or negative?
weller54 Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 We need to pull our finger out of the Fanni deal and get this one sewn up!!

I'm not saying Cambiasso is too old, but he is certainly coming towards the end of his career.

SoulSlayer Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 Anyone seen bbc lcfc? Why is thiat taking so long?

Out of all those players I'd only say that Pirlo would still be an impact signing on a team as his got vision and dictates the tempo of a game

Del Piero, Maldini, Nesta and Inzaghi have all retired (years ago). In their early 30ies, all of them would've been a worthy addition to any Premier League team (five to ten years ago).

I'm not saying Cambiasso is too old, but he is certainly coming towards the end of his career. Which bears the question whether it is really down to the speed in the Premier League. Maybe it's also a lack of individual willpower, owners shifting older players earlier to constantly bring in new and "exciting" talent for the show element of it all or even worse fitness regimes at Premier League clubs.
