Harry seems to be doing the best business so far in the transfer market out of the 3 that got up .?

As I said earlier, either Fernandes knows exactly what he's doing, or he's stupid. I don't think it's the latter. He will know more about his clubs finances than any of us do, so I don't get all this stuff about QPR living above their means. Unless he's stupid?

QPR are taking a risk.. For me, the risk is spending big amounts on players to try to ensure their Premiership survival. The risk is clearly relegation and if that happens, they would have to live with whatever consequences ensued.. Again, I would assume that probably would be 'factored in' to whatever business plan they have. Of course, if the gamble pays off and they survive, then I guess they'd be pretty much ok.

We, on the other hand, seem to be relatively risk-free, actually. So far anyway. If we get relegated then we, as things stand now, won't be left with a big wage bill to work with, or a big squad to try to offload.

Whichever 'model' works, or don't work, well seriously.. Who knows? Only time will tell.

But the gist of this thread was the business that QPR have done so far. I'm with the posters who claimed that our fans would have been well excited, nay jizzing? at the thought of signing Isla, Caulker and Leroy Fer. Not everyone, naturally, but I dare say most of us would have been happy with these players?

I just think that this prediction of QPR's current and future financial situation is a little daft. No-one knows do they? Why don't we just concentrate on our own situation, our own transfers and just let QPR get on with it? Again, why the fixation with a pretty small West London club? Unless it's fear over how they might do vis a vis how we might do? I really don't get it, and never really have.

We can hardly talk there.

Sorry, but did you not see the shift Morgan and Moore put in on Saturday, they were first class. I think when called upon Upson and Wasilewski will fill in just nicely. I'd rather have the players we have than those at QPR.

And in response to the original post, Harry just can't help himself. The minute the window opens he has the cheque book at the ready and buys players like it's going out of fashion, this is a tactic that rarely works and he should know by now. I think we are going about things well, you can't buy good work ethic and togetherness and that is something we have loads of and in my opinion that's better than a massive wage bill taken up by money grabbing, relegation fodder :scarf:

I don't think they're living above their means at all. But, the fact that Fernandes can afford these players, doesn't mean it's going to make them a brilliant side. You only have to take one look at our national side compared to someone like Chile or Costa Rica to show that names aren't everything. I don't think they'll be anywhere near as average as last season, but anyone who thinks the signings they've made is going to turn them into a competent Premier League side is likely to be proved wrong, in my opinion.

Absolutely right bud. But it's one game in.. lol

Give it time.. By ten games or so, we'll have a better clue whether their 'model' or our 'model' is the most likely to yield dividends. My point remains.. Why is everyone focussing so much on QPR? The last time I looked, Hull has signed a few, Villa have strengthened somewhat and WBA have got one or two in... West Ham have paid what 12 million on Valencia, Burnley have added to their squad.. The list goes on. The infatuation with Redknapp and QPR is OTT. But I've said this many times and it continues thus.

We know, pretty sure everyone has told you already.

Why haven't we taken players off Cardiff , Fulham , Norwich ? - Looks like we could do with a couple buys / loans , we look paper thin. In some areas , eg with James and drinky getting injured . If we lost a centre back like Moore or our Captain fantastic .

I hope we move quickly , choices we get less and less , the longer we leave it , and prices go up

Well we are talking about a man whose club was spending more on wages than most clubs in Europe, including the European champs. Their last accounts they lost £65m, their debts increased to £177m.

They, just as we have been in recent years, are living well above their means. With the implementation of FFP we have clearly attempted to rectify that. Can you honestly say QPR have tried to do the same?

They currently have a potential fine of what could be anything from £20m to £60m hanging over them. I think it's fair to say they aren't going to have passed FFP last season without some rather creative accounting.

Stupid? Well probably not. Someone shit scared because about a quarter of his net worth tied up in an asset that will do nothing but lose him money if he's not in the premier league... yes he continues to act like that person.

Burnley have added to their squad lol. What a fine array of players they have bought too.

Sean Dyche has been very clever in my opinion. He has got in a load of Championship quality players early for when their relegation is confirmed around Christmas time, that way come the start of next season he won't need to spend any pound notes.

He reminds me of someone / something but I can't think who / what!?!

Hoddle wasn't a disaster for England, but his club career is mediocre to say the least since he was player/manager at Swindon. Average at Chelsea (three mid-table finishes), good at Southampton (took over in 17th and left in 8th a year later), poor at Spurs (in the bottom three when he left) and just ordinary at Wolves (27 wins in 76 matches).

His break from management has been a great help to him as people have glossed over his most recent record.

Did I not read that Fernandes has pulled out of his formula one commitments to focus completely on QPR? And aren't they embarking on building a new stadium?

At fear of being labelled a 'megalomaniac' again (I literally had to look up that word... Not good) I'm not disagreeing with you. The City model is safer, less risky, more prudent. But Fernandes shit-scared? He doesn't come across like that to me. But you could be correct. Note that final sentence....

All his pundit mates saying "Oooooh Glen is so smart, he really should be back in management" etc etc.

Eileen Drewery, enough said.

they must be gutted that they couldn't unload Remy - he is supposed to be on huge wages as he wouldn't have joined their relegation fight originally for peanuts. Failing the medical at Liverpool hardly makes him more saleable and all Redknapp's declared delight at keeping him is starting to sound just a bit desperate

No he’s not stupid but he doesn’t appear to care about the potential long-term damage that his spending could do to QPR. There will be a reckoning, but when it comes Fernandes will be off like a shot.

Over the last couple of years QPR have spent a ton of money on players like Jermaine Jenas, Park Ji-Sung, Andy Johnson, Benni Asso-Akoto, Shaun Wright-Philips, and Bobby Zamora, Stephane Mbia, Luke Young and Aaron Hughes.

These are exactly the sort of “proven quality Premiership” players that some of our fans are asking for us to buy – but by and large can be considered failures because of the wages/transfer fees that QPR have had to shell out. Zamora cost £6m and has got 9 goals from 53 league games.

Any other manager would have been sacked – Pearson would have been horse-whipped had he bought these players to City.  But not Redknapp. Instead he’s just been allowed to write off all these bad transfers and is just doing the same thing over again - spending big money on another batch of 2006/07 “Premiership quality” players.

OK time will tell, but right now, who looks like they have a good transfer policy (clue: Mahrez, James, Drinkwater, Vardy); and who looks like they are spunking money up a wall (Clue: Jenas, Mbia, Johnson)?

If QPR finish above us this season it will because they have no financial constraints, an unhealthy risk appetite, and the owner has little consideration for the long-term future of his club.

Yes he is I think and yes they want to. He has grand designs for them certainly, but he's not Chelsea / Man City rich.  Their debts are mounting (probably now over £200m after last year) and without his loans their current model isn't sustainable.

There is only so long he can go on putting money in.

Hold on.. And this is no dig. Haven't many stated that QPR will go straight back down? Redknapp's a .... (Add expletive here). Yet now 'if they finish above us it will be because they have no financial constraints'. Well which is it? Are they a bunch of overpaid mercenaries who are doomed to relegation or might their spending on (generally agreed on decent players) keep them up?

As far as I read you, you kill any debate dead. If they get relegated, they were bound to, cos they're rubbish. If they come above us, they're bound to cos they've spent tons.

lol end of chat that.. No offence, but where do you go from there?

I simply think they've probably bought well this time round.. All the financial chat aside. But again, we'll see.

What I’m saying is that whether they stay-up or go-down doesn’t really justify their transfer policy.

Look at it this way: If you took out a loan for £500k and bet it all on Chelsea winning tomorrow - and then they do win – does that mean that it’s sound financial planning on your part?! You can get them at 1.22 so you’d make £110k.

Would your missus and kids be lauding you as a financial genius?!   Or would she be beating you with a rolling pin for risking your futures? :P

Bear in mind that technically Fernandez is just loaning QPR all this money. At some point, he’s gonna want some of it back. What happens then if they are in the Championship?
