Harry seems to be doing the best business so far in the transfer market out of the 3 that got up .?

Cant stand QPR or harry but they have had a far more productive and successful summer than ourselves.

Obviously not that "productive or successful" considering they lost to Hull and we drew with Everton.

Whether it's successful or not can't be judged until the end of the season and beyond. I'm sure people lauded Portsmouth's transfer business when they won the FA Cup. Now some years later it's looked at as a complete disaster, one that has all but ruined the club.

Define productive and successful?

Is it a productive and successful shopping trip when you spend all your money and buy more food than you need?

You could argue Crystal Palace under Holloway had a very productive summer, but they were awful. Cardiff had a productive summer, and so did Spurs. None of them achieved their goals for the season.

The point of the transfer window is to build a squad capable of competing in the prem, despite QPR's productive summer, they still lost at home to Hull, whereas we competed against a top 6 club and got our first point and goals on the board.

Posted

Just remember 2 of QPR's 4 centre backs are Clint Hill & Richard Dunne.

And Ferdinand.

I'd rather have team togetherness than individuals. It's what happened last time with QPR, too many players who don't want to play for them.

Just because we have money doesn’t mean that it makes sense to splash the bhat left right and centre.

QPR are following a very different business model to us.

Our policy is to build a squad by buying young players with potential, and providing them with a stable environment in which they can grow and develop slowly.

QPR say “fvck that”, and are spending huge amounts on players as they want to develop quickly.

In football terms, we are building a well-knit squad, they are relying on individual ‘stars’.

Neither policy has a guarantee of success, and both clubs are equally liable to be relegated this season. Our policy just means that if we are relegated, we aren’t financially screwed. QPR on the other hand could be in real trouble if they end up in the Championship next year…

This has been well-articulated by the club and Pearson many times over the past couple of years. So I really don’t see the point of having two threads daily questioning it. If people just listened to what Pearson and Top are saying it really would all make perfect sense.

Regarding last weekends results one swan does not make a summer.

You really think a midfield pairing of King and Hammond is going to cut it week in week out?!

No one is saying take the Portsmouth blue print and run with it, that was a farce what ever line of business you are in, what i am saying is QPR have added strength in depth which we simply have not done.

Obviously i want City to do well and i was made up with last weekends result but something appears to be wrong in terms of getting players in, imo i think we need a layer of management between Pearson and the owners who are capable of attracting the players that are in the budget range the owners are willing to pay........however i think it will be a cold day in hell before Pearson relinquishes sole control of things like that.

No of course not, the point i am trying to make is strength in depth which a) we dont have and b) seem incapable of resolving at the present time.

I genuinely cannot believe that people still think that Arry is some sort of genius. Honestly, the only signing they've made I'm even remotely jealous of is Mutch because I've seen him play before and thought he was decent. Caulker was in one of the worst defences in the league, Ferdinand is past it, Vargas has scored 3 goals in his last 32 league appearances, Leroy Fer scored an absolute screamer for Norwich against a prem side, but then again, so did Ben Marshall, does that make him a decent player?! Its an absolute myth to me that Arry is a) a good manager and b) has made 'better' signings than us.

No one pisses me off as much as QPR!

No, neither does signing a load of random players and chucking them all together.

The point I was clearly making, was that you can't say they have been a success in the transfer market until you see where everyone ends up. If they go down and we stay up, would you still call it a success. No you wouldn't.

That is true.

But if you see one swan, it’s usually a good indication that other swans are on the way.

Nobody says “I’ve only seen one swan, so Summer is probably cancelled this year”.

depends what you mean by successful. If by 'Successful' you mean they have signed lots of players, then yes, they've had a successful summer. However, as previously argued, I believe we have had a good summer because we have kept hold of our best players on long term contracts... I would much prefer a squad that knows each other, trusts each other and have played 2 seasons together than bringing in randomers from sides who weren't good enough to stay up last year

Well we had our two first choice midfielders out through injury and still got a point against a top team. I'd say that's pretty good strength in depth.

a) we do have. for reference please see the result against Everton, where one of our first chocie midfielders didn't start and our other (player of the season) came off injured before 40 minutes and the two that replaced them had very good games and helped get a very deserved point against last seasons 5th best team in the league

b) Pearson is trying to resolve the issue. it's quite difficult to resolve the issue of two of our best midfielders being injured immediately. Pearson has come out and said we need to make some more signings but he's not goign to panic buy, these things take time, and we still have 10 days of the transfer window left.

What's caulker done to be considered so great?

Got relegated. Just like Mutch and Fer.

Despite Moore, Morgan and Wasilewski having successful seasons Caulker is automatically better because he played for a terrible side in the Prem and came from Spurs.

Yeah but he played in the prem so that means he's better than any championship player.

1) Redknapp is a gimp

2) Buying the best players is not the same as 'doing the best business'. They pay silly money, remember.

3) Redknapp is a gimp.

4) They were pitifully bad last season and only scraped promotion with luck on their side.

5) Redknapp is a gimp.

6) Are the players they're signing any better than our squad, really?

They have fancy foreign names and come from fancy foreign clubs, so they must be.

Frankly I've never even heard of most of them, at this moment in time it's hard to say whether they are good or not. I would imagine that goes for the vast majority on here also.

Oh really and what's Hoddle ever done apart from insult handy capped people ? He was only any good at Swindon because he was player / manager, and he was crap at Spurs and a disaster as England manager.

Eh? I think you need to rethink that.

Good post.

I'd like to add that when you buy individual 'talent' that are not exactly world beaters (Chelsea/Man City style) Its sometimes not enough.

When you bring in a load of players it is sometimes difficult to hit the ground running and then confidence is knocked, players start looking at each other and blaming each other which causes tension in the camp and its a downward spiral, as proven with QPR last time. Samba on 100k a week must have pissed a few people off haha!

If QPR go down, loads of their players will leave and it will be the same all over again

Also, they came up in the play offs and struggled(ish) in the Championship and it looked doubtful at times that they would actually come up, so they needed to strengthen.

We have a tight group of players that play for each other and all know each other and believe in each others ability.

We don't need to add as much... The team we had dominated the Championship and tore it a new arse breaking all kinds of in house records.

Our team has experienced adversity before with what happened at Watford. They dealt with it, as they will if we get spanked in a few games this season and have a bad run. They will pick themselves up, It's proven, We've done it already.

If we go down (which in my eyes is highly unlikely and it would have to be a serious **** up) most of our squad will stay as they are not the big name players like Caulker etc etc.

Nigel and Harry are 2 different managers... Harry puts success first, club after... He proved this with Portsmouth, he didn't give a eff about what would happen to them.

Nigel has built a squad on a relatively low budget, compared to what people have branded us and I expect what he could have spent if he wanted to. He is looking long term, once we have secured our Premiership position this year at ease, he can then see where the club is at.. Maybe he will splash a bit more and continue to build... But for the time being, we need to be prepared for relegation.

I personally am VERY happy with have Nigel in charge and his transfer activity could have been better pre season but he's obviously been unlucky with his targets. As he said, and i agree... We have a team good enough as it stands. 1-2 more players would be more comfortable for us but as it stands even if we didn't bring anyone in... I think we would be ok.

Q.P.R are a small club with p*ss poor attendances and idiots as owners. They have relegation stamped all over them . And when it happens Harry and Handy Cap Hoddle won't be seen for dust. Anyway the kind of football Hoddle coaches is now dead and gone he's old hat.

First off, I'd reconsider your comments about Hoddle. He wasn't exactly a disaster as England manager. I'd have Hoddle here. He's one of very few pundits I actually respect, he seems to know what he's talking about.

As for attendances, it's a bit difficult for clubs like QPR in a location where they are surrounded by ridiculously successful clubs.
