Heard an interesting interview on the radio last week with Tony Fernandes. He always comes across as articulate and with a sense of humour. Of course, a radio interview is staged somewhat, but I thought he sounded decent enough.

He essentially said two things. Firstly that it was brilliant to have Arry as manager, how they spoke about things a lot and had a great working relationship. No surprise there, I wouldnt expect him to say anything else.

Secondly, he basically agreed with what Redknapp had said. That he (Fernandes) and Hughes had made some blunders, had signed some rotten apples and that he (Fernandes) had learnt from his mistakes.

Again.. what I'd expect him to say.

The one thing that was most apparent IMO was that this man aint no mug. He didn't sound stupid, ill conceived or gullible. He will know exactly how much the club will spend on players and the 'type' of player that QPR would be in for. I don't think he would allow Redknapp to 'ruin the club' or allow it to be ruined himself.

I could be wrong, of course, but QPR's main signings this time round, to me, seem logical, necessary and 'decent'.

We'll see what happens. No I'm not a QPR fan...as always I'm saying it how I see it or, in this case, heard it. I believe they are assembling, finally, quite a tidy squad. That doesnt mean they will click and I hope they don't. But let's see.

I'm not bothered what QPR or their bung-taking wide boy are doing. Two days after he announced they wouldn't go down the route of buying 30-something mega-earners after a last pay day, he signed Rio Ferdinand, whose mistake cost them against Hull.

 

Spending tons of cash doesn't guarantee anything. Hull bought sensibly last season in the summer, got a foothold and then bought Jelavic and Long in January to help them push on. Cardiff threw good money after bnad and were a laughing stock. Gary Medel only got noticed because he had to work his balls off covering their defence.

 

Let Pearson get on with it. Two more players should cover it. I'd rather keep the spirit than have hastily-bought mavericks screwing up the dressing room.

Oh really and what's Hoddle ever done apart from insult handy capped people ? He was only any good at Swindon because he was player / manager, and he was crap at Spurs and a disaster as England manager. He is just another wide boy spiv like Harry  , just in it because he wants the money.

Anyway. First things first - I don't like QPR. From their small club big bollocks attitude when they first went up, to Hughes spunking money on a million players to 'Arry doing the same and limping over the line ahead of a very deserving Derby side.

I just don't like their model of doing things.

But let's face it appears they've learnt their lesson somewhat. They've made some decent signings. Imagine Caulker and Wes. Drinkwater, James and Mutch/Fer.

The original post was ridiculous and I agree with the majority of replies.

They scraped through the play-offs and finished 22 points behind us and 14 points behind Burnley, they needed to strengthen. Making some decent signings still puts them behind us at the moment as we have a decent team, which is better than a group of good individuals and it will take Harry and Hoddle a long time to cultivate the kind of understanding, belief and team work that we have generated having the likes of Drinky, Morgan, James, RDL, Vardy, Knocky, Konch, Kasper, Nugent, King, Moore and Schlupp playing together for 2 full seasons.

We succeeded last season not because we signed a load of players but because we built on the foundations we had laid the season before. A couple of sensible additions to the squad but largely it was the same players that started in August 2012 that got us promoted.

We have done the same this season, and will make a couple more additions I'm sure of it, but comparing Harry's activity to ours is daft as they have different requirements.

It's more that they are just trying to buy a team again, you can't just buy 2 decent centre halves and expect them to have a good understanding, as we saw on Saturday they were all over the place for Hull's goal.

 

Caulker, Isla, Vargas, Fer, Mutch, Ferdinand and throw Remy back into the mix, then you have 7 new players that don't have much time to develop as a team, not to mention the inevitable deadline day deals. It is the strategy rather than the personnel that I find most puzzling.

I agree. I do think they've made some great signings and I think they have the potential to aim for a mid table finish with the squad they've got. All depends on how well they work together.

I'm just not sure that's true. The HUGE amount of money they have spent over 3 seasons (not just by Hughes, Redknapp too), combined with a season and three quarters in charge for Harry, ought to mean 16th is a failure. To take them down twice, and to have scraped back up so unimpressively, would surely show even Metro journalists that Harry was best before 2007...

Well firstly QPR clearly needed to do more business, with an aging squad and one finishing 22 points behind us they couldn't exactly go up and use what they had.

 

Secondly, once again they will be overspending massively as there is no way a club like QPR can fork out the kind of wages they are doing to that squad. All this with a massive FFP fine hanging over them as well.

 

There in lies the difference in what's happened this summer I would guess, our owners seemingly don't want to keep pumping money into the club. They keep preaching about the club being financially stable and able to support itself.  So rather than go out and spunk all the premier league money up the wall on expensive signings and players, it looks like that money and any parachute payment money (if the worst happened) would go towards keeping this team together, and paying their contracts for the 4 years they have signed up for. Rather than being under any pressure to sell to meet FFP.

 

There are risks involved with both strategies, for all the players QPR have signed they still need to get them into a functioning team.

Cant stand QPR or harry but they have had a far more productive and successful summer than ourselves.
