Lionator Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Interesting and arguably 100% correct. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/columnists/jonathan-liew/11054176/Match-of-the-Day-Robbie-Savage-represents-the-triumph-of-personality-and-opinions-over-perceptiveness.html
Fox92 Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Savage does make 606 quality though. Especially when Villa fans phone in.
lavrentis Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Always find Savage is bang on a lot of the time. Dont know who that Guardian writer is but i'd rather see the opinions of Savage.
LanguedocFox Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Always find Savage is bang on a lot of the time. Dont know who that Guardian writer is but i'd rather see the opinions of Savage. He's a Telegraph writer for a start. I agree with you, though. The article is, like it makes Savage out to be, “opinionated” for the sake of it. There's not a single example of anything that Savage said on MotD (and there was a lot to choose from) that was opinionated, wrong or dull. As for Savage changing his mind; well, does that matter? Far better to change your mind than stick stubbornly to an opinion that is demonstrably incorrect.
Kitchandro Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Well he's in the entertainment business, isn't he? I'm no fan of his but he's not trying to be the 'ideal social archetype'. He's trying to be someone who has opinions on football and expresses them in an interesting way. He is interesting, and he does provoke debate, you can't deny that. I don't think much to his character and I do find him annoying but in fairness, he talks no less or more shite than the majority of pundits. Unfortunately MOTD has entered the wilderness years in terms of punditry.
Corky Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Savage loves to complain about being ripped apart by fans on Twitter when he says something about their club, not knowing that Twitter has a memory and fans often bring up where he's moved the goalposts. See last week's column where he was "absolutely hammered" by Man United fans for suggesting their transfer policy last season would cost them a place in the top four, when in fact he predicted they would finish third.
Bert Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 You can't please everyone. Wouldn't expect much less from one of the snobs over at the telegraph. There's better pundits around but there's certainly a lot worse than savage too.
davieG Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 He may well improve as time goes on as it seems to me his early 'media' career was all about seeking attention in order to get a foot in and for that he certainly succeeded.
RobHawk Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Can't say I'm a big fan of Sav but he's better than Shearer!
RonnieTodger Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 A very scathing and strangely written article, I know my avatar might make me look biased, but I'm not denying the man can be an idiot. However, like many have said it's more of a personal attack. Of course he isn't one of the greats, but I'd much rather listen to what he has to say than yet another BBC fence-sitter. I quite liked Danny Murphy during the World Cup actually. Mr Liew certainly has brushed up on his history, but he himself, is style over substance by judging that. "When global warming finally strikes and the polar ice finally melts, when the oceans swell and rise, when the great flood washes over us and submerges our petty dreams, when humanity and everything it has ever created lies underwater, then many aeons from now some intelligent life‑form will descend on our planet and pick over our remains." Christ.
Cat Burger Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 It's weird - like something I might have written at uni intending to send it to the editor of the student magazine, before deciding at the last minute it was derived mostly of angst and pretension and then throwing it in the special filing cabinet.
