Dan Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 I'm genuinely intrigued. Who do our fans think the bigger coup was?
Kitchandro Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Mancini never played at the world cup. He certainly never scored one of the most memorable world cup goals. Then again, convincing him to play at Filbert Street (assuming he'd seen Filbert Street before he signed) was a hell of an achievement.
Harry - LCFC Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Was going to make this exact thread myself Hard to know for me because I wasn't around when Mancini was kicking a ball about. After comparing their Wikipedia pages (scientific, I know!) I think Cambiasso is the bigger name out of the two.
kristianity77 Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Cambiasso surely. As Mancini was around for what....a month if that? Was hardly a signing like this is. At least we are getting Cambiasso for a whole season and maybe another one after perhaps.
dave_the_fox Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 We werent a newly promoted side when mancini came, we had also been top of the league for a couple of weeks n all iirc! Dont get me wrong ive tried to blank that period out of my mind hahaa
fox123 Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Let's see him play before passing judgement. This has certainly been a more drawn out process, but Nigel has finally got his man and it may well prove a shrewder move to bring other players in (though that isn't Nigels policy). Cambiasso is a quality player without doubt, can he cut in the Premiership, at this time of his career? Time will tell.
Cambiasso Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 During his professional career, Cambiasso has won 23 official titles, being the Argentine footballer with most honours in history, one more than Alfredo Di Stefano.
Callabinho Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Haha, Cambiasso as he still has something to offer. Mancini was like a used condom when he arrived...flimsy and useless. Plus Estebans CV, makes for impressive reading!
muzzy1981 Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 More excited about this surely Camby is a couple of years younger than Mancini was and can see Camby being a regular alongside drinky Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ADK Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Esteban is here on a perm and likely to play more than 4 games. Mancini looked about 50 when he came here.

Plus Estebans CV, makes for impressive reading! Nice metaphor, but I don't agree. I saw him play three or four times and he stood out in Peter Failure's side like a beacon. Mind you, he was playing in midfield alongside Junior Lewis, and threading passes through to Ade Akinbiyi. No wonder he cited "personal reasons" for going back to Italy and not returning. At least Cambiasso has some decent players to line up alongside.

fatboy Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 He went to manage Fiorentina, and won the Coppa Italia in his first season.
blueonyou Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 During his professional career, Cambiasso has won 23 official titles, being the Argentine footballer with most honours in history, one more than Alfredo Di Stefano. I'm pretty sure Di Stefano is more decorated than Cambiasso
LanguedocFox Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Those "personal reasons" were being offered a job in management were they not? That's how it turned out, but when he went, there was no mention of the Fiorentina job - that came out a week or so later. When he left, I'm fairly sure that Failure said he would be back soon.
Tom's Pasta Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Mancini was barely a signing because it was such a short loan, the Cambiasso signing is the real deal and I believe he has achieved more than Mancini.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Mancini also only played 7 or so games didn't he? I think Cambiasso has been brought in to play more of a serious role I would think Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dickov22 Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Imagine if he's as useless as Mancini was for us .....
bovril Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Mancini is the bigger legend. Maybe because I was at an impressionable age, but seeing him at Filbo was unforgettable. He was on a completely different wavelength to most of our players... Trevor Benjamin ffs, I wonder what Mancini made of him. I'll always remember the cross that Mancini made on to Izzet's head in the Chelsea game. Probably the finest ball I've seen at Filbo. And Muzzy missed!
cc_star Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Cambiasso, by a mile. We're newly promoted, he's younger too & here for at least a year
artursteppe Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 I'm pretty sure Di Stefano is more decorated than Cambiasso Not true. Esteban has one more.

I saw Mancini at Everton as well, so far ahead of any other player on the pitch, both sides. If only we'd seen him more, but so looking forward to watching Esteban!
Captain... Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Mancini was probably a more famous player, probably due to the fact he was a striker he was more high profile than a DM. It also wasn't that common back then for a team of our stature to pick up a mega-star, it was still very much a time when teams like Chelsea and United attracting top players like Geroge Weah and Veron was the exception rather than the norm. It was before Bolton started signing players like Okacha and Djorkaeff. It was before the Premier League was awash with foreign talent and before we had millionaire backers. I think it was also at a time when there wasn't blanket coverage of the PL, so I would say that picking up Mancini was more of a coup. Cambiasso will be the better singing, all he has to do is complete 90 minutes and he will have done something Mancini didn't, but in terms of wow factor Mancini at Leicester is more impressive.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 I decided not to vote, because I don't know the answer. Pros and cons level off.
