The Doctor Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 If Labour hadn't crashed and burned in Scotland, how would they have done? Beeb reporting an increase of 1.4% in vote share despite that catastrophe...

Best to wait until the end, a lot of very strong safe Tory seats to add to these totals - safe to say it would still have been a Conservative majority in England though.
Guest Bilo Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 It'll take a long time for Labour to repair the damage north of the border, it's likely to be all change in terms of leadership tthere.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Well my industry/type of work has just been given another 5 year sentence of being arse raped again Rest in peace my type of work

Beyond repair, the Scots showed the Tories they don't forget. You're now 'Red Tories' - viewed with utter distain by the nationalists, they want an independent Scotland, nothing else will do and they aren't stopping voting SNP until they get it. Well my industry/type of work has just been given another 5 year sentence of being arse raped again Rest in peace my type of work Work at the Job Centre?
Guest MattP Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Confirmed - More Panda's in Edinburgh Zoo than Labour MP's.
Guest Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Confirmed - More Panda's in Edinburgh Zoo than Labour MP's. Well Matt, you seem a very happy man this morning, maybe a bit OTT. Let's hope you stay happy and it's a successful government for the UK as a whole.
Finnegan Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 ****ing jocks. Basically shot themselves and the rest of us in the foot over a bit of flag waving, patriotic bollocks. Salmon embarrassed himself and their cause with a dreadful independence campaign and yet it's still hanging on for purely emotive reasons. Well great, now we've all got a tory majority. Genius. I hate the scotch.
Guest Col city fan Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Please forgive my ignorance. Have the Torys got an overall majority?

I hate the scotch. I doubt it's going to even matter. Tories look like they are heading for 329 - Labour could have won the whole of Scotland and it wouldn't have made a difference. Please forgive my ignorance. Have the Torys got an overall majority? Not yet but looks extremely likely they will have one.
Mark_w Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 If we've gone through all this shit and the five years that will follow it without Nigel Farage losing the battle for South Thanet.
Guest MattP Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 If we've gone through all this shit and the five years that will follow it without Nigel Farage losing the battle for South Thanet. Farage is done, huge turnout and Tory vote at 36-37% nationwide means he's finished. Some Labour voters were lending support to the Tories there as well to keep him out.
Rocket-Ron Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Do you think that there will be a 'new' new labour after this election, going back to how they were in the 70's/80's instead of just being to the slight left of the right wing parties??

I hate the scotch. It's not the Scots fault. even if all those seats were Labour then Conservatives would still be in. Obviously Milliband doesn't inspire. A (false) motivational Labour leader needed clearly. I feel sorry for the Liberal democrats.
Guest Bilo Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 The Better Together campaign could have been the factor that caused the damage for Labour. It was good for the United Kingdom, but catastrophic for Scottish Labour.

I think this is the last time we'll ever see Labour lurch left, they simply can't win elections from that position, they can't appeal to anyone beyond their core vote doing it.

Old New Labour probably. The Blairites are likely to have the knives out before long.

Guest MattP Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Labour could be in trouble in Wales as well, some huge swings to UKIP in the Labour areas and even swings to the Tories on marginals. Lost the Gower to the Conservatives, a seat they have held since 1906.

A (false) motivational Labour leader needed clearly. I feel sorry for the Liberal democrats. I guess it depends how much you think the threat of the SNP turned people towards the Tories. My first general election and it's been bloody miserable. Farage leaving or losing, staying on and losing his 'honest politician' tag is the only possible consolation. Is it always this rubbish?
Guest Col city fan Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 I'm glad that the majority of people have seen through Miliband. I fear for the NHS though
Guest MattP Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Denis Skinner was right as well, shouted 'Coalition's last stand' when they dissolved.
