Jon the Hat Posted 8 May 2015 Author Posted 8 May 2015 As Nick has quit first, can Ed go out in a blaze of glory shouting "I AGREE WITH NICK!!!!!" If Ed does go, get Alan Johnson in. I don't care what it takes it has to be him.Wouldn't be surprised for Ed to stay on though, although i think he will go. He's failed at this election but stability and continuity can be important in showing the electorate what he's about.Whoever takes over, we need someone who will stand up from day 1 and not a few months prior to the election. I've said on numerous times i've been impressed with Ed of late but it really has been to little to late. The torys should have been put to bed months ago! If? They need a new generation, lose the underlings of New Labour / Blair & Brown.
The Blur Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Really? I don't, they will be around in 2017 for definite. After these results, they are bigger than the lib dems, although not in seats. A smarter more focussed campaign in 2020 could see them take quite a few seats in the North. If Carswell become the new party leader, apparently he is pro immigration so UKIP will have lost their biggest selling point so that could be the end of them.

Jon the Hat Posted 8 May 2015 Author Posted 8 May 2015 Well he's not gone yet has he! Yes, he has indeed. Oh, you mean Ed. He will though, no doubt about that. Dismal failure over years not months as you said. He never had it in him to look or sound like a leader. Honestly if Cameron looks Prime Ministerial next to you then you picked the wrong candidate.
The Doctor Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Nick Clegg has gone officially, likewise Nigel Farage: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-32633719 Just old Millipede left to go then.

Bettsj2 Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 What are other peoples thoughts on food banks. I've heard a lot made of how there are lots more now and how they are used by lots of people, is this growth really because people really can't afford food, or because people like getting free food and the more of it made available the more that will be taken? I took some food in to a food bank not that long ago. 2 women were outside talking about how hard it is at the minute not having any money etc and I have deep sympathy with anyone in that position that genuinely needs help. These two women however were smoking. Even the cheapest fags these days could buy you enough food from Lidl or Aldi to get you through a few days. When I left the foodbank, one of them was on their mobile and it looked like an iphone 5. This is just a snapshot and by no means representative of everyone that uses them, but perhaps there is a bit of a mentality amongst some that whilst free food is available, they no longer try to budget for food. Its a sensitive subject but if the government said, we're closing all foodbanks and all those registered to use them, attend your local job centre and you'll be given a minimum wage job, I do wonder what the take up would be.

Ed should never have been leader in the first place. A complete waste. Nobody looked at him in the party and thought he genuinely had the grapefruits to be PM.

They do not operate as 'free food' outlets. You have to be referred to them by a doctor or social services. You are given 2-3 days worth for a few weeks then given advice on money management. Many people are too proud to use them and think it is demeaning to ask for help. It is likely all this will be disputed by some but there are many organisations with statistics regarding food banks. Trussell Trust, Shelter, Inside Housing and The Samaritans to name some. However the subject has been done to death in other threads and people do not want to hear about negative subjects.
ithuriel Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Multibland has never looked to me like a leader, find it more funny that Ed Balls is gone via the Tories.
The Doctor Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 And, in a move that will shock no-one: galloway plays the race card and claims that the racists forced him out: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/george-galloway-blames-racists-and-zionists-for-defeat-to-naz-shah-in-bradford-west-10234791.html A white scot blaming anti-muslim and anti-asian sentiments for him being defeated by a pakistani muslim, you really couldn't make it up.

purpleronnie Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Farage losing and resigning has been the only good moment for me all night/day. I said 2 months ago that I thought the Tories could get a Majority because I couldn't see Labour gaining all the seats they would lose in Scotland. I was of course hoping the polls were accurate, but alas they weren't. Well done to Cameron you big spoon faced Etonian bastard. And **** you scotland.

Even without the Scottish collapse, labour wouldn't have got a majority - they completely failed to prey on the Lib Dem collapse that everyone could see coming.
Guest Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Cameron must be laughing his bollocks off. I doubt he has any.

Yep another really poor campaign by Labour, thankfully at least this will mean ED will go. As for the result well 'I'm alright jack' seems to be back in vogue, it's like the 80's all over again. Another huge blow against the most vunerable. A bunch of Turkey's voting for Christmas.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 I think the Liberals (Clegg) took a very short term view last time and everyone I ever spoke to who voted Lib Dem said they never would again, they felt betrayed, they voted Liberal because their beliefs were almost the polar opposite to the Tories and Clegg stabbed them in the back all for a bit of power. They got exactly what they were due, I'm sure there were a lot of decent politicians who are now out on their arse because of the decision Clegg made 5 years ago, there was never going to be any other outcome, so I think calling Clegg a nice guy when he knowingly ruined his parties future 5 years ago is a bit of a stretch.I think it just shows that centre right politics is what people, not in this country, but across Europe want at present, and a man who looks like a Lizard the face of it. People are complaining Ed took Labour too far to the left, but I think that's what the majority of Labour voters/supporters want from the Labour Party, a left wing opposition/government. I think Ed was just never the right man, in an age where image is everything and substance is nothing he just didn't have the look or the charisma to lead the Labour Party, regardless of which direction he took them in, it should always of been his brother given what people tend to look to in politics these days, I thought at the time the Labour party were screwed when David didn't get in, he would of, at the very least, assured there wasn't a Conservative majority just because his face is more likeable.I'm ok financially, it suits me to have a Conservative government but I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't vote for yourself but those who need help, and that's why I'll never be a supporter of the Conservatives, regardless of my position in the world because I know now for the next 5 years the most vulnerable people in society will be attacked by this government, and my conscience would just never allow that. And one thing that I can't seem to get my head around is why, if Scotland are so pro SNP, did they not vote to be independent? Now they've a country with only SNP sets but being run by the Tories, doesn't make sense to me.
Guest Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Multibland has never looked to me like a leader, find it more funny that Ed Balls is gone via the Tories. It's a shame that charisma is more important than policies - but it's the world we live in. Ed should never have been leader in the first place. A complete waste. Nobody looked at him in the party and thought he genuinely had the grapefruits to be PM. Shouldn't a party be judged on it's principles and policies and not on the photogenecity of its leader. Sadly smoking, having the latest phone, big screen TV, expensive hairdos etc bears no relevance to your apparent poverty level as they are considered today's necessities. You could get hounded for saying that. It's the generation of entitlement as I've been saying for a while. Everybody thinks they should have a fancy phone, big flat screen TV, sky subscription and their own house and car without the need to work hard enough and long enough to earn it.

Would like to add that Clegg should have re-signed as party leader at least a couple of years ago or the others should have ran him out. Lib Dem would probably have 60 seats now. Can only disagree with your final paragraph. The Scots are not (as a majority) in favour of independence. They are as a majority anti conservative policies and see no point in voting Labour anymore. I feel sorry for the Scots, Welsh and most northern areas of England. The Tories are not a party to help those who need it and will profit from it they are a party to help those who have it and can make more profit from it. I think the middle class (lower middle class) have been duped but as Strokes told me yesterday it's about "Aspiring". Wolf of Wall street and all that. You sure it's not Cambiasso's fault, FIF? I'd like him as PM. A far better blue than Cameron.
