Dr The Singh Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Said he'd resign if he failed to win Thanet South. Cheerio Ok
Rincewind Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 They night have renamed it but it hasn't stopped. Lots of people have been reassessed, that's still on going as well. I'm fully expecting my Mrs to have her DLA stopped, as deaf people aren't seen as disabled enough. Yes I believe it is in tiers now. Classing one disability more deserving than another. I read about one woman who knew she was being visited so she took some pills that she uses to take away pain in order she could open the door and not have a panic attack. She also had to go to the loowhen the accessor was there. They told her she seemed OK. She said what was she supposed to do, be a bumbling nervous wreck and shit he self? It encourages people to exagerate their illness. Because you have a disability you do not give up trying to manage things If a person lives on their own they have to find a way to manage however hard it is and some are being punished for making the effort. I am not against acessment but feel it can be done fairer.
MiniFox Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Apologise No not all, just irks me that people take the NHS and their health for granted. Fair enough, people don't always appreciate NHS for what it is.
The God Emperor Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 excellent, hopefully Carswell gets the leadership and gets rid of some of the unappetising elements of the party. Might not have to hold my nose next time round when I do an Albrighton and put a cross in the box.
Guest Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 My take on the results as an outsider: The Tory voters at the last election were happy with the Tory/Lib coalition and voted again for the Tories. The Lib Dem voters had turned away from Clegg in droves seemingly due to 1 broken promise at the last election - despite the Lib-Dems keeping the Tories in power for the full term. The Tories and labour have also squeezed the middle ground out from under the LibDem's feet. The population believed the hype and decided that they couldn't trust Milliband and went for the alternatives - Labour could not take back any of the centre voters that they needed. The UKIP supporters stayed faithful but wanting out of Europe and immigrants out is still to extreme with little positive policy to back it up - they never really were anymore than a protest vote by the more right wing tories. The Scots showed that a large proportion (though not the majority) still want independence. They hate the Cons and dislike Labour. The SNP can do nothing with all these seats with it being a Tory majority - so in the end it's a false dawn. Lib Dems should either have pulled the plug on the govt. making a political stand part way into the last term (to show they have their own principles) or should have thrown Clegg under the bus sometime over the last couple of years when it was clear they had blundered got Hughes or someone else in and blamed Clegg for the student loan fiasco. Now they probably need to replace Labour as the Centre/Centre left party or if Labour go Blairite move to centre left making them the more left of the mainstream parties. Labour now need to find a new identity and something and someone to hitch their wagon too. Could be a lot harder than they imagine. UKIP showed that they really aren't a force more a one trick pony. The Tories need simply to tighten immigration policy and a lot of the UKIP support will return to them. SNP should push for another independence vote. A new moderate Left wing party is needed in Scotland and that could then push the SNP at a future election. With a majority the Tories can now do whatever they wish. It's on them, nobody else can be blamed. Are they going to stay centerist, move further to the centre eliminating either the Lib-Dems or Labour or move a little more right wing and regain UKIP voters? Does it matter? Probably the best result for the UK. A minority coalition would have been fun to observe but a nightmare for confidence in business and the country. The voters didn't trust Milliband and Clegg paid for his broken promise (depsite other broken promises from Tories being overlooked). Cameron needs to step up and show the country his worth. 5 years of mediocre rule will be a travesty. excellent, hopefully Carswell gets the leadership and gets rid of some of the unappetising elements of the party. Might not have to hold my nose next time round when I do an Albrighton and put a cross in the box. Carswell may as well return to the tories.
The God Emperor Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Carswell may as well return to the tories. Allow me to dream please, I don't get many oppurtunities!
Strokes Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Imagine that'll be the death of UKIP.Really?I don't, they will be around in 2017 for definite. After these results, they are bigger than the lib dems, although not in seats. A smarter more focussed campaign in 2020 could see them take quite a few seats in the North.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 UKIP didn't win many seats at all but in terms of popularity they have absolutely gone through the roof. If we had a different system here they would be well represented. I think Farage has done a great job for them (much as I think he is a **** and their party is disgusting).

Guest Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Really? I don't, they will be around in 2017 for definite. After these results, they are bigger than the lib dems, although not in seats. A smarter more focussed campaign in 2020 could see them take quite a few seats in the North. Do you think so? They are a protest party. I don't imagine they'll get anywhere in the next general election. Europeans, yes but their pinnacle has been achieved and now they'll wane. They are a weaker copy of the "Front National" in France. Who have been doing very well percentage wise as both parties supporters use them as a protest vote until the face to face run off when everyone accepts they don't want them in power.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Incredibly suprising results really, didn't see one person predict a conservative majority. Lib Dems collapse has allowed the tories to pinch alot of their seats to get them over the line. Labour can't blame the SNP completely as even if they had won every Scottish seat they would be well short. Although the Tory scaremongering of the SNP/labour coalition has quite clearly worked. Although Ed will go I actually like the way labour moved further to the left this time round instead of just following on from Blair's New Labour. However the self interests of the electorate mean that with the stronger socialist approach they will never win an election.
Rincewind Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Fair accessment.FIF. Clegg never really challenged Cameron's policy until the last year which then was too late. Labour wasalso pretty quiet. They need to be more vocal for the medial to take notice. The occasional rant does nothing and earns them the title of 'loony lefties' by some. If UKIP dropped EU and immigration and concentrated on social issues, who knows they may gain the middle to left votes. SNP destroyed Labour. Those seats would have made a difference.

It's only surprising because "we" follow the writings of experts and the media. When everyone believes the Polls you can understand why people believe politicians. Most people are Ostriches or sheep.
lgfualol Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Crazy how many votes Ukip got and only given 1 seat. I'd be pissed if I actually voted for them but I didn't so it is funny. System needs changing though.

johnny the fox Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Im off to get my snout back in the trough.. dip your bread boy's! its gonna be open season on the weak and the poor....a right turkey shoot! I love hunting...
Babylon Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 They were protest votes. If you go along those lines then extremist parties get seats. I'm not sure you can say they were protest votes at all. I'm sure there are a large number of people who believe in what they say.
Rincewind Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 I'm all for PR but if there was would it mean more candidates standing and a lot more different parties. Where would they sit in the HOC?
Jon the Hat Posted 8 May 2015 Author Posted 8 May 2015 I'm not sure you can say they were protest votes at all. I'm sure there are a large number of people who believe in what they say. Without a change in process most of them may well not bother to vote next time though. Farage might not last they day let alone 5 years, so UKIP will look very different.
Babylon Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 What are other peoples thoughts on food banks. I've heard a lot made of how there are lots more now and how they are used by lots of people, is this growth really because people really can't afford food, or because people like getting free food and the more of it made available the more that will be taken?
RobHawk Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 If Ed does go, get Alan Johnson in. I don't care what it takes it has to be him. Wouldn't be surprised for Ed to stay on though, although i think he will go. He's failed at this election but stability and continuity can be important in showing the electorate what he's about. Whoever takes over, we need someone who will stand up from day 1 and not a few months prior to the election. I've said on numerous times i've been impressed with Ed of late but it really has been to little to late. The torys should have been put to bed months ago!
