Guest MattP Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 I'm glad Nicky Morgan won, she won me over, a decent and caring MP. Same.
SMX11 Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 The alternative vote system would have seen a huge amount of UKIP seats. They'd have been the 3rd biggest party by a long way. Well you know the Ukip line later today.
Vacamion Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 The exit poll for SNP 58 seats is wrong. Yessers are shouty/zealots. Their actions upon leaving polling stations will be loud and proud. Those who voted for Unionist parties are more likely to tell pollsters 'mind your own business'. I predict mid to high 40s for SNP. The union is still jiggered, though.... I got that SPECTACULARLY wrong. Biddies must have stayed at home. Scotland has elected a large bunch of MPs to sit scowling in the corner. Independence here we come.
Grewks Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Well you know the Ukip line later today. It is a fair point though in all honesty. how can one and a half million scots have 50x the seats that Ukip has, after doubling snp's votes?
Merging Cultures Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Really dislike SNP. Low percentage, but loads of seats.

It is, not sure the best way forward in terms of pr though. You just don't get outright results with pr and it allows failures to hang on etc.
Grewks Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Also a quick one for the Tories are 'only for the privileged'. Majority of london is labour, says everything really....Tories are the real 'Working mans party'.
Guest MattP Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Yes! The Mogg re-elected. Lord Snooty is still there Ken! This time it's no holds barred!

It's not as odd as it seems, the SNP vote is very concentrated. It's not really a fair comparison.I'm a big UKIP sympathiser, but they have probably overstretched themselves at this general election. 2020 could be massive in the north for them.

In scotland, the SNP have only competed with one major party, labour. Whereas UKIP have competed against UKIP, Labour and conservative seats, so the number of votes for them is remarkable really.
SMX11 Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Clegg appears to be resigning as well. Not suprising after their bloodbath.
Guest Bilo Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Miliband likely to go after this calamity. Genuinely shocked that it looks even worse than the exit poll. This is where things get very bad, a Tory majority means many of the Lib Dem concessions made in the last Parliament are likely to disappear. University tuition fees likely up to £11500, even more savage cuts, more privatisation of the NHS. The only good thing is that five years of a Tory majority government and Johnson or May leading a campaign to get the disaster this government will be re-elected should pretty much guarantee a Labour win in 2020, but only if the damage in Scotland is repaired and the lessons of this campaign are learned. Meanwhile, the UKIP candidate here was stuffed into second place and Galloway must have been the only Scot not wearing a red rosette to see his political career end, so it wasn't all bad.
leicsmac Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Just woken up. Must say I wasn't expecting this. Good campaigning by the Tories and Miliband being totally unappetizing has proven to have much more of an effect than most could have seen. Fair play. Going to be interesting to see if they do hit 326, but then I think even if they don't they'll get close enough to either make a deal with the DUP or go it alone.

Jimothy Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 I'm no UKIP fan, but a voting system that can have the SNP get 5% of the vote (so far) but have 50 times the MP's of UKIP who got 12%. Also their 50 compared to the LibDems who got 7%, just makes a mockery of voting. I'll also throw in the Tories have got less than a million more votes than Labour yet currently have 30 seats more. FPTP really is a shite system when you look at it like that.
Guest MattP Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Starting to wonder now if the exit poll came back with a Tory majority but it was almost that unbelievable they didn't dare flash it to the British people. Labour have requested a recount on Ed Balls , he could be a goner!
