Guest Col city fan Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Can anyone please explain why we aren't playing our most creative players, or at least giving them a run? I personally don't think Mahrez and Knockaert are particularly fantastic, but at least they can run with the ball and look to create something?? We look like scoring never again.. and I STILL maintain that supply is the issue. It doesn't matter who we play up top, as a team we look like creating zero. What is Pearson doing? Let's have some rational explanations or at least some attempt at explaining what is in Pearson's mind..
One Legged Beaver Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 I don't think anyone can explain as this is what most of us are perplexed with at the moment.
Matt Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 I know I repeat myself time and time again but I'm starting to sound even more like a broken record, if that's possible. I like Pearson, I really do and i've said even if we get relegated we should keep him unless he does something dramtically stupid. People have mentioned him being stubborn in the past and i've never really agreed with them, but I do now and his stubborness may be his downfall, it may be classed as 'dramatially stupid', he might just be shooting himself in the foot.
StanSP Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Today I guess central midfielders were there to shut out the service through the middle from Schneiderlin/Wanyama through to Pelle. But then it was a very dangerous game to let crosses ping in non-stop from right and left to players like Pelle in the box. Luckily Wes & Was were solid and blocked that threat. As much as creativity was needed, I think having wingers today would have helped the full-backs for sure. I'm not sure why NP has picked no wingers now and seems to persist with it. Maybe they aren't doing enough in training or something's gone on behind the scenes (not saying something has, just suggesting). Also think we're trying to fit our game around Cambiasso and it's displacing Drinkwater and James. Pearson's rationale these days is play to not get beat, as opposed to play to win. I hate that whenever any manager does it for whatever club.
davieG Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Speaking to Foxes Player after the match: “When you play against sides of the quality of Southampton, it’s always important to be in the game, so for us it was always going to be key to be more difficult to beat. “We’ve seen what Southampton have done to a couple of sides this season, so we couldn’t afford to be gung-ho, but the flipside to that was that we weren’t able to create enough opportunities. Bob Weasel Fox Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 I think every time Pearson names his team at the moment we all realise we are doomed to lose or at best draw 0-0. Not good enough. We don't try and win games anymore Simply not good enough
lgfualol Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Because Pearson is teaching our attacking players a lesson for being in the opponents half
Trav Le Bleu Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 I'm pretty sure that Pearson realises this too; he's not stupid. He's trying to do something, I'm just not sure that anyone else knows what it is and how long he's going to persist with getting it right if it doesn't come together.
Legend_in_blue Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Containment football. He thinks it's the way forward.
Tom's Pasta Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 James, cambiasso, king, drinkwater are all better than knockaert and mahrez when we haven't got the ball. We did actually restrict Southampton to very few chances but in the end there was no out ball for us so it was just endless pressure from them. I don't think we've quite found the right balance in midfield, I'd like to see a mahrez or knockaert allowed to play off the strikers but have the protection of the likes of cambiasso, James etc screening the defence. Worryingly Pearson reckons this is our best eleven so I've heard
Raj Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 next game we will have 5 centrally placed midfielders. #itsthewayforward
kingfox Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Nobody can explain Pearson's thoughts behind it, only explanation there might be is that Mahrez & Knockaert attitude wise are doing Pearson's head in. All teams in the Premier League either play with wingers, or play a diamond shape with someone in the "Number 10" role behind the strikers. Right now we are playing neither, King in that role doesn't work. You see teams who we have played recently, last week West Brom had Sessegnon, other week Swansea had Sigurdsson, today Southampton have Tadic & Mane, all creative threats who either play down the middle or out wide. We leave our most creative players either on the bench, or not even in the squad at all, which at this level is utterly bizarre and won't get us anywhere.

They wont turn over everyone who attacks them 8-0. If we played a natural attacking game, we may have lost 2,3 or 4 nil but we've still lost and looked dogshit in the process.
Matt Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 #fearless How ironic the club used the word to launch the new shirt They may aswell have put #shitscared as that's what the players look like at the moment.
MHC Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 What baffles me is that against the likes of Man United and Arsenal we played free flowing attacking football and it worked, then we got into the run of "easier" fixtures and went all defensive, I thought it would be the other way around. Pearson has been careless and naive since the Man United game in fixing something that didn't need fixing. He is the one who must be held responsible for this run as his poor decisions and tactical blunder after tactical blunder have turned us from the surprise package of the league to relegation fodder.

This is a bit of a myth. We were defensive in those first games too, look at the possession and number of shots. We just had greater energy and more of a threat on the counter.
Leicester4Eva Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Too many long balls.. we are not moving forward as a team, we look to hit on the counter everytime and lose posession to easily basically its attack verus defence most games.. why are we looking to sneak a goal on the counter every game??? Play football for gods sake.. move as a unit backwards and forwards.. keep possesion..
Guest Kopfkino Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Pearson said at the start of the season that we wouldn't change our style and we would go out to win every game. His comments and selection suggest we went for a 0-0. Why the change Nige? If we go down, I'd sooner we did it having a go. Just like Wigan used to do. This is dire at the moment. The next game against Sunderland is starting to feel like it will be a chore to go to. Where did our positivity go? Our desire to get at a team, give it a go and be a joy to watch has evaporated

Our desire to get at a team, give it a go and be a joy to watch has evaporated Thank fuck someone said it!! I havn't because I knew people would come down on me like a ton of brick (Not that i'm bothered, just can't be doing with arguements, i'm already angry and wound up enough) but I have exactly the same feeling! I'd love to say fuck I ain't going, I can't be arsed, but I know i'll be there, i'm glutton for punishment! Hence my will attendances drop thread and hence PurpleRonnie's post in that thread if this form continues it will be interested to see our 'real' attendances. Even if it gets really shit i'll still be there no doubt, i'll still turn up, but the word you've used 'chore' is definetly the right word to use, we all know whats gonna happen...
Matt Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Yeah...but you will be there when we win And like i've said i'll be there when we lose, cos I can't bloody stay away, doesn't get away from the fact it'll feel like a chore, the worrying thing and this is no knee-jerk reaction? I can't see where our next win will come. I'm going back to the statement I always used to use years ago - Prove me wrong lads, prove me wrong, please i'd love you to.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 next game we will have 5 centrally placed midfielders. #itsthewayforward Fuvk that shit lets go for 6 midfielders as we don't need a forward player
st albans fox Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Has it occurred to anyone that in the first few games, we were fitter than the other sides (many had World Cup players who hadn't had a pre season). Once we got past game 6, that fitness factor has waned and we have failed to press teams and close them down effectively. Infact, the opposite has happened and we get the ball, we are quickly bullied out of possession.
