"Lucky" or "Unlucky"

Recommended Posts

Can we please stop throwing this work "Lucky" around or "Unlucky" for that matter.

An example of being "Unlucky" would be a gust of wind blowing Mahrez shot off target, Or a huge gust of wind blowing one of hulls in.

We have not been "Unlucky" over our torrid run, We have simply not been good enough and not taken our chances.

Hull were the same today, we were outplayed today but ultimately Hull didn't take their chances, We were not "Lucky" to win, and Hull were not "Unlucky" to lose, they simply did not score when they needed too.

You make your own "Luck" in this world.

A force of nature causing us to miss by an inch is "Unlucky" .. Missing due to a poorly executed shot is down to quality.

On a side note, Today's result was far more significant than united, and in terms of results it's a better result in my opinion given the time of year and our situation.

So just so I'm clear, the fact Hull City didn't take one of their guilt edged chances is not good fortune on our part?

Care to explain. I mean I understand how you can say it is not Unlucky on their part as it's just shit finishing, but given we had no control on how good or bad their finishing is I'd say that's pretty much dictionary definition of lucky to me.

luck is "a purposeless, unpredictable and uncontrollable force that shapes events favorably or unfavorably for an individual, group or cause"

You've explained how we were lucky yes as the outcome of a hull forward having a clear shot on our goal would be exactly that. As I said, dictionary definition.

Because we are defining luck based on 2 scenarios.

"Lucky we won" "Lucky we didn't lose"

The fact of the matter is, yes the majority of the situation was out of our control.

But it was completely in hulls control. We were not "Lucky" or "Unlucky"

Hull did not take their chances. simple.

I agree. It's not 'luck' that Hull were woeful in front of goal, it was shitness. Similarly, when a ref gives you a bad decision, it's not 'luck' that does it, it's the various merits/limitations of the ref in question.

If we'd been good enough, we wouldn't be bottom. Both in terms of finishing chances and not making defensive errors.

No there are two parites involved one was in charge of their own destiny the other was not, they were not unlucky today as they were in control, we had absloutley no control over Jelavic finishing that chance, for example, in fact we even set it up for him adds to that, it was lucky. In order for there to be no luck involved he'd have to either to be so good he'd never miss that chance or so shit he'd never take it which I'm sure we can all agree on he is neither. A bad reffing decision also has elements of luck to it, you can argue we were lucky to win the Man U game for example.

Hull didn't take their chances and we were lucky they didn't. To suggest it's not is to suggest their totally incapable of taking them. Luck plays a big part in most sports. Just moronic to suggest otherwise.

The fact you even write yourself "It was completely in Hulls control", proves that your definition of lucky applies to us very well.

We were extremely lucky not to concede today - a bit like Stoke away.

But there you go - swings and roundabouts. It's the element of luck we've been lacking for so many games in the past few weeks and months.

It had to swing in our favour at one point again.

We were lucky at times today.

Agreed but we were 'unlucky' against Spurs.

The woodwork is an example,a few inches the other way?

You could say a freak force of nature affecting the game would count as luck, but you could also say in a game with high winds, the players should be accounting for this with their actions.

Only until the balls leaves your foot. After that "Luck" can occur.

Football's played outside in the elements. A player may use the wind to his advantage, and a goalkeeper should know that if it's windy, he may need to be aware that the flight of the ball won't be as natural as usual. The Liverpool beachball incident was 'luck', wind isn't. If Vardy misses a sitter, would we be unlucky or would it just be the fact he wasn't good enough, or our own fault for not buying a better striker?

It's all about 3pts and to be honest I do not give a foooook how we get them.

Today we got the three points in our position thats all that matters.

What's the correct word for being extremely fortunate that Hull missed some guilt edged chances that they would usually score and Hamer making a couple of very decent saves?

Posted

Earlier on we didn't have the luck such as the cambiasso own goal and other factors, however we then lost confidence and couldnt win even though we were playing well. That was not unlucky, and the Tottenham game was a prime example. Today was luck in the sense that hull were woeful in front of goal. A role reversal in a sense
