Not Leicester, but the Szechuan in Loughborough does very good Chinese food - it's always full of Chinese students from the uni. Not one to take the Mrs to, as it's very basic inside, but the food is much more authentic and less greasy than your standard UK Chinese

On a similar vibe Spring Jiangnan, on Welford Rd in town sounds very similar. A Chinese national who came to Leicester as a international student took a load of the UFS lads out there before he went back to China. Was really traditional and the food was the cuisine mainly from around Shanghai area.

No way!!!!

Whats happened? That place was literally Leicesters best Italian.

In other news, not in the City, but I thoroughly recommend Peppervines at Sycamores, Burbage. Really really good food and top quality.

Nip Into The Cross Keys for a Guiness while you’re over there too, their Guinness is probably the best around this area.

Very overpriced. My son’s £30 sirloin steak which he asked for rare looked more like a minute steak and was served blue!

Saute potatoes were a bowl of mush. The white wine was warm. There were only a few tables occupied and we waited ages for them to take our drinks order. Then the gap between starters being taken away and main course being served was about a minute!
Sadly, we won’t be going back.

This is really sad.

Agreed sir. They have had a lot of my money over the years taking ladies for first dates. It was always impressive and like a place nobody had heard of.

Cross keys is about 500 yards from my place - I am horrified you’re talking about Guinness like that, we might have to cut ties lol

As a few others have mentioned, John’s House is an amazing experience. Had the 7 course taster menu (plus 3 snacks to start, cheese and petit fours!) and the food, service and ambience were all very special. I mean you pay for it but was a treat for my birthday.

Went for my 50th in the summer. It was excellent. We did the same 7 course taster menu with the accompanying wine flight. With a vesper martini to start and an Old Fashioned at the end of the meal, it was a boozy evening!

3 Kilns last night. Feel like I developed autism from how loud it was but the food is excellent and it’s great value.

Weird take

It's the second bizarre reference to autism on this forum lately.

Sorry, I’ll delete it.

If you were staying at the Belmont Hotel and needed to pick a restaurant for 6 people including 4 people in their early twenties, one of whom is an extremely picky eater, where would you choose? My husband and I will be over from Spain for the Charlton match with our daughter and her Charlton supporting boyfriend, and we will be meeting up with my son and his girlfriend to take them out for dinner, probably on the match day.

Staying at the Belmont and we will have a car but don't really want to drive when we're in the city already.

There must be loads of options but it's years since we've been into town, so I feel like I need some help!

Oggi on London Road for Italian. Will have to book though

Can't be bothered to trawl to see if it's been mentioned in here but has anyone been? Reviews look top notch

Went for pizza summer before last - really odd setting but pizza was fantastic. My neighbour is Italian and won't go anywhere else for pizza.
