Guest Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 Scotland's poor effort with the bat chasing masked the problems. 300 was a barely par score and they scraped it from something like 170-0 off 30 overs. Ballance had barely any cricket prior to this world cup and looks out of his depth as a result. England were inflexible with order Buttler could have came in sooner, perhaps Morgan too. They'll say it was a good win but I saw nothing there that made me think they will trouble Sri Lanka. One positive is India may well win the other group now so finishing 4th could be no bad thing as Eng have just beaten them a couple of times.
Corky Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 Was bored watching us bat after 20 overs, Bell was playing the anchor role against an associate side. We are the least flexible and most predictable of all the top nations- hardly ever change the batting order with the state of the game, never take a Powerplay earlier, seem to think T20 doesn't exist and countries can actually hit over 350 quite regularly. A chance to put our foot down and hit big runs and we waste it. Bumble had it right, they were having a net. Scotland's mediocre bowling attack hit for just over a run a ball. There is no ruthless streak at all.

leicsmac Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 I think the attitude regarding cricket in this country that Test matches are the be all and end all and that everything else is not nearly as important has something to do with that too. The other teams seem to take their selection and preparations for ODI and T20 tournaments more seriously than we do, whereas we just sling most of the Test team in there and hope for the best. That being said, still give me Test matches over anything shorter any day of the week. It's the one area of cricket where commercialism hasn't quite got its claws in just yet.

Test matches cost between £60-120 a day to attend generally and when you see the hoardes of people queuing for £5 pints and £7 burgers at most test grounds in the country and all of the nonsense merchandise they plug mercilessly it could be argued commercial side of things is very prominent.. England have been preparing flat 5 day wickets for years now (IMO) to suit commercial needs as they miss out on heaps of revenue with early finishes.
Guest MattP Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 Did the job but it was a painful watch, that might be the worst ever ODI 50 scored by Bell. Still, bundle into the Quarters and we've got a chance.
Stadt Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 I prefer t20, I'm sure the purists like the endurance and tactical side of things but I like seeing massive sixes
ADK Posted 23 February 2015 Posted 23 February 2015 Not sure if our performance there was measured or poor. Probably both at the same time, we got 300 on the board and that was always going to be enough. I do like Moeen Ali.

Guest Posted 24 February 2015 Posted 24 February 2015 Gayle about to get 200.. should have been out lbw for nothing
Bert Posted 24 February 2015 Posted 24 February 2015 Gayle is ridiculous. Scored more in a 50 over match then Leicestershire did in some innings last year
leicsmac Posted 24 February 2015 Posted 24 February 2015 Gayle about to get 200.. should have been out lbw for nothing Utter Leviathan Mode for the second 100, 33 balls to get there. As for the LBW Hawkeye showed Umps Call for it. That needs to be there as the system isn't 100% accurate, but I think the rules should be changed regarding reviews viz you don't get a decision overturned but don't lose one if it turns out to be umpires call on an lbw shout.
Guest MattP Posted 24 February 2015 Posted 24 February 2015 That's Gayle's one big innings for 2015 done then Superb hitting mind despite the opposition.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 24 February 2015 Posted 24 February 2015 First player to hit 100 in T20s, 200 in ODIs and 300 in tests. Chap.
Guest MattP Posted 24 February 2015 Posted 24 February 2015 Samuels role shouldn't be underestimated either in a team that regularly collapses. Ireland v UAE tonight - big game for Ireland as they might need to beat Pakistan as well now thanks to the Windies run rate.
Voll Blau Posted 24 February 2015 Posted 24 February 2015 I'd put money on Ireland to beat Pakistan if I wasn't so sure Interpol would be on my case if I did.
Guest MattP Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 Tough chase for Ireland on the cards. Inexplicable to let the UAE get 280 from 130 for 6 with only 15 overs left.

They did the same against WI, letting them get away. Even if they chase this down here (and I think they will) they won't get away with it against better bowling opposition.
Guest MattP Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 Sort of understandable against the Windies though, they have Sammy and Russell in the lower order and have won games against the best from those sort of positions. The UAE haven't. Wtf just happened there? A normal set of stumps and that's out. Knew this would happen eventually with a heavier set.
leicsmac Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 Ed Joyces innings was pure luck-of-the-Irish stuff. Look forward to seeing the highlights of it when I finish work.
Guest MattP Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 Don't want to be harsh on UAE but this is one of the biggest bottle jobs at a World Cup, never seen a team so scared to win a match. Ever since the 5th wicket it's been dropped catches, missed run outs and now the keeper is just letting balls through his legs. Incredibly at this stage the captain has just gone off for a piss as well.
Alexikokopops Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 Great end to the game. All the best games at this World Cup have involved at least one Associate
Guest MattP Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 Great end to the game. All the best games at this World Cup have involved at least one Associate Making a great case for themselves, I'm glad. UAE will be kicking themselves there, they will have no idea how they lost that. Ireland v Pakistan looking huge.

Ireland v Pakistan looking huge. I'd say both sides bottled chances to win that match easier than it was won. But it turned into a classic. Pick Ireland to beat Zimbabwe and make the Pakistan match moot anyway - three wins should surely be enough to secure 4th place.
