Lack of tradition pre-match

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else irked or uncomfortable with the lack of tradition in our pre-match build up.

No old Leicester City songs, no stirring anthems.

I don't want to be snobby but we're a historic club, moreso than the likes of a Hull, Reading, Brighton etc.

Any suggestions to change this or how we even could at a club level?

just play let me entertain you on repeat from 2.15 until the post horn gallop.

in fact is the post horn gallop not the definition of pre match tradition?

Im sorry, but that is snobbery.

What says we're more 'historic' than them? Such a Forest way of thinking.

Couldnt give a fook about pre match music or any crap...what is this bloody American football???

For the love of God please scrap Hey Jude. It is ****ing atrocious and has absolutely nothing to do with the club or the city as a whole.

So?

nor does 99% of the other songs played pre-match.

There's a difference between pre-match music and a song being given pride of place seconds before kick-off. It's genuinely cringeworthy that it's played.

When I first started going down in the early 80's the lads would run out of the tunnel, line up in the centre circle and then wave to all sides of the ground. This kind of routine is Scuppered these days by all the current Prem line up / handshakes palaver but made it look like a bit of personal appreciation from the team towards the (then) frequently long suffering faithful. Ditch Hey Jude anytime you like for me though.

Who gives a ****? Go down concourse and get a pie if you hate it so much.

I think you've totally missed the point of the thread.

That being said, the people at the club do not care about tradition nor do they have a clue how do implement it.

They did try playing When You're Smiling pre-match for a while but it was that awful Jersey Budd version. Frankly I think a new version needs recording, even the old ones, though much better, are not quite right for the crowd to sing along to.

It's also pointless saying we should just have no music and let the crowd sing pre-match - it's hard enough getting people to do it during the match and even then our most traditional and unique songs are the least popular. The only way to get the whole crowd into When You're Smiling for example would be to have a good version played pre-match. It works at other grounds like a charm. The club are unlikely to stop neglecting that song, it's just not a top priority for them. In fact, we have so many clueless morons supporting is they'd probably complain.

On the other hand, I have to say that playing the Post Horn Gallop as the teams walk it is a damn site more traditional than anything the majority of clubs do at home games. How many teams walk out to the Star Wars theme or some shite?

I think cringeworthy is over the top, but if a song is played literally just before kick-off every home match it does suggest suggest something about that songs relevance to the club.

As it happens, that song has no relevance to the club and there are plenty of other songs that would be more suited.

I agree and so does pretty much everyone around me in the kop that ' hey Jude' is embarrasing and dire. It needed to he gone a couple of seasons ago. Like someone said above nothing being played would be better and have the post horn gallop as the players come out. Who actually attends these fans meeti ****a ever asks me!! Cheers

Thank you for pointing this out, for example Brighton are a good strong club, with a great fan base.
