Leicester City are in talks with 10 players who are out of contract this summer

Leicester City are in contract talks with the players who will be free agents this summer.

The contracts of Anthony Knockaert, Dean Hammond, Marcin Wasilewski, Esteban Cambiasso, Paul Konchesky and Matt Upson all expire in June.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Zoumana Bakayogo, Conrad Logan and Paul Gallagher are also out of contract, and Pearson said those issues are being dealt with now.

City's status as a Premier League club may be in doubt, but Pearson said they were keen to "protect their assets".

"It is always a case of us trying to protect our assets.

"We had to deal with a difficult situation last year in a different set of circumstances, but contractual issues are ongoing."

It has been a frustrating season for Knockaert. The 23-year-old Frenchman, who is not available for tomorrow's visit of Hull because he has had to return to France after his father was taken ill, has made only five starts in all competitions this season.

Knockaert is free to talk to overseas clubs if he wants to leave in the summer, and Pearson admitted it had been a frustrating time for the former Guingamp winger.

"As you would expect from any player who hasn't been in the side, he has been in a better place," said the City boss. "He has to deal with that.

"The important thing for him at the moment is he is back in France with his family and we hope everything works out well at home.

"Any player who is currently not in the team has to deal with their own situation. They get support but, ultimately, the team is more important than any individual and that has always been the case.

"It is a case of players have to work hard to get back in."

Kasper Schmeichel is back in contention after returning from foot surgery, but while Dean Hammond has returned to training after a calf problem, the Hull game will be too soon for him.

Pearson said Schmeichel's availability did not necessarily mean he would go straight back into the side.

"It has been good to get him back in full training," said Pearson. "He has been out for a while now.

"I will make a decision based on what I feel is right for the team, but it will be nice to have three very good keepers available.

"No-one is an automatic selection. It will be down to a number of factors."

Yeah I guess players do have to deal with it in their own way when they are kept out of the team for no reason, and once they get back in the team get dropped for once again seemingly no reason even though they've not put a foot wrong!

"Leicester City are in talks with 10 players"

And they listed the 10 names of our players out of contract, think the Mercury's pulling that number out of their arse - they have no idea who's in discussions.

I would only renew Knockaert, Wasilewski, Cambiasso, Hammond - All on one year except Knockaert who should get a few.

The rest can **** off and die from our wage bill.

He's not put a foot right. Which is the point.

He didn't take his chance. His performance against Shrewsbury was utterly disgraceful.

No-one is an automatic selection!!!! I think maybe someone is!

As said above, I'd make Knockaert, Cambiasso, Wasilewski & Hammond a priority, regardless of division we are in.

I suspect agents will try and long out the talks til they know what division that is.

Also thinking further in to the future, 4 players' contracts expire in 2016 - Nugent, Wood, Schwarzer & Hopper. Surprisingly enough, I think majority on here would rather we extend the latter's contract.

That game he was awful, also at the start of the season.

In his recent games I thought he played well, and is currently a better option than what we have on the wings at the moment.

Ha. Imagine if Bakayogo, GTF and Gallagher get new contracts.

I only want Wasilewski, Knocky and obv Esteban to sign one. Hammond maybe for one year if we get relegated.

Knockaert's done enough in the Development Squad this season helping our youth, and Leicester City U21's retain their Premiership status even if the senior team doesn't.

Think we owe him another year, and hope Knockaert sticks around and doesnt go agreeing a deal with St Etienne or something.

Feel bad for Bakayogo, but he should never have been signed in the first place.

GTF too old, too unfit

Gallagher should have been sold years ago, shameful wages - he probably earns more than Mahrez.

Well he certainly wasn`t on his own was he!

The whole team was poor against Shrewsbury, and i thought that on the night, Mahrez and Moore were our worst players, apart from Pearsons son, who was absolutely woeful, but who i thought deserved to be cut some slack, due to his inexperience.

That's very debateable.

For me, he's probably about 6th choice on the wings.

Mahrez, Schlupp, Vardy, Albrighton, Nugent, Knockaert (in that order).

You're not wrong, he wasn't the only one who had a bad game. But he was certainly one who didn't even bother trying which is inexcusable.

Nobody gets an automatic selection? Well, thank you Nige for increasing my blood pressure before the sleep. Bloody, arrogant, hypocritical asshole.

Convinced the Mercury have just researched who is out of contract this summer and have put this together without any real knowledge.

You would play Vardy and Nugent out wide ahead of Knockaert?
