Corky Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Id say, you dont have to be beaten 5-0 to be thrashed. When have we been thrashed at home though? Man City, Stoke and Palace were all close matches, Liverpool was even until we went down to ten men, WBA was another match where both teams played poorly, Spurs was close to our best performance of the season. Man United, for the first hour, was the match where I felt we were chasing the game the most this season.
jamesmilner Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Poyet had 6 or 7 fans trying to attack him at the villa game . Their board had no choice .
wurmer Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 This whole thread, and the other 17 threads of the same nature, saying the same things, pro, anti, blah blah is completely and utterly pointless - it will change nothing and is just causing everyone to get riled up with each other. He's obviously here until at least the end of the season, so how about we put the energy into just forgetting about all this bollocks and just concentrate on all trying to spur the team on from the stands, in the vain and faintest hope that we somehow carry out a miracle and be significantly less crap than the teams around us for the remaining games. How's about it?
Donut Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Well then you are clearly wrong. Clearly im not wrong. Swansea and Southampton away both finished 2-0, youre telling me they werent thrashings? When have we been thrashed at home though? Weve had a mostly unchanging mediocre to poor level of display.
GingerrrFox Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Clearly im not wrong. Swansea and Southampton away both finished 2-0, youre telling me they werent thrashings No they weren't thrashings, they were comfortable 2-0 wins at home by two superior teams. I'll tell you what is a thrashing though, Burnley losing 4-0 to West Brom, Aston villa getting battered at the Emirates 5-0. Villa smashing Sunderland 4-0 at the weekend. None of that has happened to us this seasons. We haven't been "thrashed" once this season and that's been said by many pundits such as Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher. So yes. You are wrong.

If youve spent nearly the whole game camped in your own half in a game like Southampton away, and your only intent has been staying solid and literally offering NOTHING going forward, youve been thrashed. Forget what Neville and Carragher say, youll twist that to your own advantage when you hear them say something negative about Leicester which is true and youll find an elaborate reason why they are wrong. And considering Villa look highly likely to avoid relegation, Sunderland have acted positively in installing a new manager into their club, and Burnley continue to defy the odds in battling away in what ultimately may be a losing battle but having won hearts and minds alike, then it wasnt adding much to raise this in your argument as if its a string to our bow. Were bottom of the league and woeful.

Donut Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 So with that last statement you are admitting we haven't been thrashed then flower? The last statement reads "to raise this in YOUR argument" as if i am talking on your behalf. Because its YOU that believes there have been no games this season where we have been thrashed. I have already given you two thrashings, Swansea and Southampton.

Only on planet Donut is losing 2-0 being thrashed. Keep saying it and eventually someone else might agree with you.

You have one attempt on goal and 35% possession, to your opponents 20 attempts on goal and 65% possession. Thats a thrashing. Thats a performance where youve been utterly dominated.

Thats a performance where youve been utterly dominated. Thrashing as defined in a sporting context is "a heavy defeat". Losing by 2 goals isn't a heavy defeat. Dress it how you want but you are wrong. We were outplayed in those games but you using the word "thrashing" is flat out wrong.
Guest MattP Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Thrash - to defeat heavily in a contest or match - So I don't think you can call a 2-0 victory a thrashing. Although it wins the very hotly contested 'pointless argument of the week' award.

MC Prussian Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Not my 'speculation', Lineker's declaration Ok, my bad. Your deduction of Lineker's speculation.

Were bottom of the league and woeful. I agree. Negative outlook by Pearson since Burnley at home, contrary to our style of play last season imo is a big factor in us doing so badly. I could handle going down with a fight and a cavalier attitude but this season has been a betrayal of all that was good about the team last season. It's utter bullshit that we have had to watch, and heartbreaking what he has done with our young, progressive side over the last six months.
cc_star Posted 25 April 2015 Posted 25 April 2015 Worth revisiting... Manager: stick or twist when things just aren't going right regardless Twist: Villa - Improved on Lambert, but any incoming manager would have done that Sunderland - Slide has continued QPR - somehow got worse, despite great attacking intent and creating chances galore Stick: Hull - Sinking feeling has been stemmed Burnley - 1 goal in 8 and look to be running out of steam, which is a problem when all you've got is running, lack of quality to take advantage of the work-rate is showing and will no doubt see them down, but the players sure have done their best for the man Us - Selections, formation & tactics constantly changed to try and overcome that fine margin and be on the right side of the results - Paid off recently, remains to be seen if we have enough to get over the finish line
pazzerfox Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 I've looked everywhere but can't find anywhere that says Pearson's sacked, surely he had to go before Poyet. Sometimes it's best not to say anything when you're angry from a defeat or annoyed at a performance!! I hope next season, people will learn to try think before they open a new thread and start spouting off. No more to be said.
