Telford man goaded into falling to his death

Fully agree.

Disgraceful behaviour, these people could be procecuted but the police dont take any action. Must have a few caught on CCTV.

Same thing happened at Derby a few years ago when that teenager was urged to jump by a big crowd. He did and died.

onlookers who shouted "jump" and filmed a distressed man

Why do certain people want to film everything? Just so they can get a few hits on social media. Disgrace.

It's what we have become. People are desensitised & far more detached these days due to movies, media etc but there truly is some horrible people out there.

More so than in the past? Or is it just because we get to know more about them because of vastly increased information flow?

It's an interesting question - is the world more or less violent and uncaring now than it was, say fifty or a hundred years ago? It's probably something that's impossible to measure quantitatively.

As for the act - yes, it's utterly sickening, and it's a shame there can't be prosecutions of those responsible for goading the poor guy in this way.

This is disgusting. There should be consequences for people who maliciously abet a death. The poor guy probably wouldn't have jumped without these mindless idiots.

I agree, I think the birth of social media (24hr news outlets) has just highlighted situations and/or pathetic people - not that they weren't around 40/50 years ago.

Reminds me of when my folks say "Back in my day you could leave your front door open." Yeh great, but no-one was about to try and move a massive brick of a TV, you'd break your foot. Easy nowadays with laptops, tablets etc.

50 years ago banks were a lot easier to break into. Plus a lot of businesses kept money in safes overnight instead of taking money to the bank each day. Although many people were in the same situation and it wasn't acceptable to nick off someone in your own street.

So you're saying the problem these days is that people nick off their neighbours instead of robbing banks and businesses like they should be doing?

No, but the things of value weren't TVs or the like. People often kept money at home in cash, which due to plastic, very few people do now.

You can turn that question on its head though. Not only does there seem more than in the past, but the seeming greater "normalacy" (I know - it's far from normal, but this the point I about to go on and make) due to increased reporting and access of information desensatize people. Not everyone of course, but some people are very suggestable*.

Bit of both I think. Social media definitely plays a part.

Though I doubt we'd have seriously had this much of a callous attitude towards our fellow citizens in previous generations.

I read this earlier, absolutely horrific that people can interpret someone on the verge of suicide as an entertaining sideshow and a joke.  On the bright side his life probably sucked to even be there in the first place so at least the poor fella's at rest now.  But seriously what a bunch of cvnts.

Sounds like those goading were a bunch of kids. They'll have something to think about when they watch those videos back.

No I am not saying that they 'should' be nicking off banks and businesses.Reread my post without picking sections out to criticise.
