Man of the Match Award Joins Lukaku in Wes Morgan's Back Pocket

lcfcratings.wordpress.com

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan stormed home to the first Premier League man of the match award as decided by 446 voters against Everton. Alongside his defensive partner Liam Moore, Everton's £28 million striker Romelu Lukaku was kept largely at bay, helping City to claim a valuable first point on the opening day against a side hoping for a top six finish again this season, and Moore's efforts saw him voted as the runner up to Morgan's award. Andy King's reported 96% pass success rate didn't go unnoticed by the City faithful, and his midfield performance saw him unlucky to only be voted the third best player due to the colossal defending by the centre back pairing.

Ritchie de Laet was given a torrid time down City's right hand side by the combination of England and South Africa internationals Leighton Baines and Steven Pienaar, resulting in the Belgian receiving the worst rating on the season's opening day. The supporters weren't particularly kind to Anthony Knockaert or David Nugent who despite plenty of endeavour, only earned average ratings. However both were significantly ahead of De Laet who can take solace from the fact that he will not have to face too many left-sided partnerships more effective than that of Everton.

Everton were given a solid rating of 6.73 which would have arguably been higher had their second half performance matched the first. Credit has to be given to City for stemming the flow of chances that were created by Martinez's team. The officials led by Chester-based referee Mike Jones did not fare as well, being rated the wrong side of average, not helped by the decision to not send off Everton's Gareth Barry in the second half. Nigel Pearson is as close to universal approval as he is likely to get, receiving a 99.5% approval rating from those who voted.

Thanks to all 446 who voted, far more than expected but giving a very real impression of the fan's opinion for those who didn't go. Come back after Chelsea next week!

Haha! Hello Seenitall!

This is great. I thought it would be good to see all the player ratings averaged out. Got to be the most accurate way of doing it, plus it saves time reading a whole thread to get an idea of how everyone played.

Keep up the great work!
