greenfox Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Hi been reading Foxestalk for a while now & thought i would share this with you all. The special moment came away at Shef utd a few weeks back , there i was with my 11 year old lad stood in front of what i believe is to be you fine chaps of Foxestalk who i have seen over various away games. The 3rd goal goes in and is that despair starting to seep through the away end. But no instead of Despair singing was getting louder , jokes were getting funnier As the game went on my lads face who is obsessed with the blue & white of our great Club & City started to smile , Amazing 3-0 down & he was seeing the true reason of why he was right to follow his old man & support his home town club instead of the lure of his mates & the Premier league wannabe fans. When the shoes off chanting started he was in heaven & joined in with the chants & as his mum doesnt go to games ( well i have followed leics in 70's & 80's and women wernt allowed then ( nothing wrong with that now though) i allowed him to venture into mild obscence chanting its football different rules apply to outside the ground so why not he's a teenager in 18 months & he will know more words than me then. Anyway after 90 mins scoreline still 3-0 but after a credible 2nd half performance we started filing out of the ground after the final whistle , even at 11 he knows you stay till the end. Then it happened he looked up to me & said " Dad thats the best Leicester game i have ever been to, now he has been to many many games over the last 4 years including a few great victories, BUT he has realised following Leicester is about being with your mates or parents & enjoying yourself because no matter what other fans say about your team, You know that you dont care because they will never ever be lucky enough to be born in Leicester and be part of what is without doubt the greatest Club & fans in the Country. That moment when he realised this at such a young age will stay with me for ever..... And on Sunday when he cried when relegation was confirmed , within 10 mins i had convinced him that for us it matters not , still every Saturday we will get in the car & arrive amongst 2000 other Leicester fans in another City , the songs will still be there, the jokes will be funnier , More games as tickets are cheaper , Better pubs ,& still 11 players trying to carve out cult status to support, And we will have players who over the next 12 months will only be here because they want to play for Leicester. To finish of my story & what inspired me to join today & donate a few pounds to Foxestalk is from a post i read on Monday regarding your proposed new flag. It Was that 30 years ago when i was at school i remember the s##t i used to get from so called 80's Liverpool fans about supporting Leicester & i knew that some of the kids at my lads school in Wigston would try & wind him up . The post i read was about your flag & the words we are on a league 1 tour for a year & every night this week he has come home & said about the grief he is getting & his reply was to them i dont care as we are on a league 1 tour and i will be going to every match what will you be doing on a saturday afternoon. and with that comment they have all shut up.. So to all of you , thanks for your high spirts at Shef Utd & thanks for the we're on a League 1 tour comment it has made my job as a dad to a 11 year old fan much easier & you know what the last 2 months has made him a Leicester Fan for life as i truly now know he has been encaptured by what it means & that is belonging to something very very special. So stuff your 4 years of Championship we have had to endure , This next Season is going to be one of our greatest ever because the fans will stick together & enjoy the joy as so many have before of being a true Leicester fan & this time next year Rodney.......... we will be Champions.. because who cares about being millionaires I salute you all........

Superb uplifting post and an early contender for post of the year . Welcome to Foxestalk
Fez of Mahrez Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 I'm such a twat. I got a bit of a lump in my throat reading that. This is what it's all about. All the effort is for this.
Flynny Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 If this even threatens to slip off the first page I'll pin this in an instant. Oh and hello.
samingram_uk Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Probably the best post i have ever read! The first long post i have ever read all the way through on here, and i am so glad i did.
C-man Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 If Carlsberg made first posts.... .... they would have struggled to make that! Welcome to the forum, introduce yourself and your lad to us all next year. The more social our away days get the bigger and better our support will get!
Scow Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 That's a great story - really enjoyed reading that. We all support Leicester because they're our club. It doesn't matter what other fans say about us - as long as we have a team to follow, and continue to have a laugh on matchdays, then that's what it's all about. I've not once envied any other club - why should I? If I did, then I'd go and support them. There's a post by Ched somewhere on this forum which sums it up well re: glory supporters.
iancognito Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Y'know, that is brilliant. Great story and great parenting I can't get to many aways any more but I'm still in touch with a lot of people who do and we must have some of the best fans in the country. Thick & thin, mostly thin at the moment, they stick with the club that has given them so little to be happy about. Faced with the prospect of £23 a game next year, a lot of people would spend a season in their armchair listening to the commentaries or watching 'Jeff & the boys' on Sky as the scores come in. Not our lot. League One Tour, here we come. So to Fez, Kokopops, Bob, Thracian and everyone - absolutely everyone - that makes this place and this club what it is - cheers
lildave3 Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 WOW!That deserves my special welcome! Good god how old is that banner.

Nationwider Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 .... Sums it up really. Terrific post. There's no point in going if you can't have a sense of humour about what had happened to us in first half-hour of that game. I was at the game with a fan of a Prem team. He was seriously impressed with the away fans around us.
Mikey Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Great Post ! This is what it is all about, following your OWN club over the country, singing songs, making jokes, drinking beer and most of all uniting as one to support your club. League One here we come !
Tommeh Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Truely brilliant post, makes me even more proud to support our club. Next year is going to be special, success or not.
Corky Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Superb post, and well done to you for convincing your son that Leicester City is the most important football club in the world and no-one else matters. Fantastic :fox:
lavrentis Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Brilliant post, this is what it really is about. We will always have this advantage over the other fans.
syston_fox Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Genius!!! That post summed up what football should be about... at the end of the day the result is vital but why should it get in the way of having a great day?
Basingstoke Fox Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 After countless arguments with people about why I support Leicester City, especially when I live down here, this was one of the greatest things ive ever read, just reinforces my arguments with Arsenal "fans" down here saying "Ive never even heard of Leicester till i met you", the same person that goes to games because his dad takes him but has NEVER watched a game on T.V. He never knows how Arsenal are doing or even who hes been to see arsenal against! He will never know what supporting a propper team truly feels like And the fact that your son is just proud to be a Leicester fan no matter what he has to take from other "fans". I just love it! I wish there were more people like that down here, your son is a total legend! I love being a Leicester fan, makes me one of the greatest 30,000 ish people on earth
