JamesLCFC Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Bbc radio manchester - Sven has asked to speak to patrick viera
StanSP Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Probably telling him to beware of another humiliation by Wellens next Tuesday.
Petchy Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Despite him being a dirty, slow b*stard.. I still loved him in his prime.
SMX11 Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 We surely don't need him? I guess Sven wants more physical players in the midfield.
Bryn Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Pretty expensive backup, would sooner we didn't bother.
Salieri Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 He'd take the place of King, Abe or Wellens and frankly i'd rather have any of those three.
JamesLCFC Posted 11 January 2011 Author Posted 11 January 2011 I love our midfield, but if yakubu signs maybe well go back to 4-4-2 , which in that case could see room for viera...
cc_star Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Can't see him being anywhere near good enough to dislodge Abe or Wellens
Simmo86 Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Better to have on the bench than Oakley... Exactly, its about having a good squad not only a first 11
MPH Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Yakubu, i can just about get my head round.... Viera? has to be one of the best midfielders of his generation... If people could get excited about Edgar Davids then they should about Viera too. But thats just plain crazy...... I dont think he looked brilliant on sunday but after so long out of the side, it was probably harsh to throw him into 90 mins of a pulsating cup tie...
Legend_in_blue Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Yakubu on 55 grand a week and how much Viera? This could all end up tits up imo.
Asha Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 I think Vieira would be a decent buy. Well, maybe not. I just thought someone in this thread should spell his name right.
Ozwin Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Yakubu on 55 grand a week and how much Viera? This could all end up tits up imo. Exactly why I'm not getting too excited about Yakubu coming.
hackneyfox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 We're paying all of his wages are we? As for Vieira, well many on here didn't think Beckham could cut it anymore, Harry seemed to think otherwise. If he's half the player he was I'd sign him tomorrow. If Sven reverts to type and plays 442 then the midfield has to change as it isn't god enough for 442, Sven's words.

Hasn't Harry only signed him (at this moment in time so far) just to train with the squad; he can't play in matches I don't think. Personally, I think Beckham has much more to give than Vieira anyway. And it's not so much bringing any player in. For me, it's a question of 'if it ain't broke, why fix it'? King, Abe and Wellens have formed a good partnership and seem to be working perfectly well, so to bring a player like Vieira would only disrupt that. Anyway, it's probably a non-event and much ado about nothing, really!
I am Rod Hull Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 No doubt he has class, but his wage demands and a possible ego could bite us in the backside.
ian_marshall Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Anyone got a link to this as nothing is mentioned on neither the BBC or Sky Sports websites?
themotivator Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 massive fan of viera, but read something about him considering retirement at the end of season.
hackneyfox Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 However good the midfield it won't be there all season, that's almost a given. I don't see it happening either but I wouldn't say no to a player of his calibre.
ajthefox Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 I think people are reading into this a little much..
Petchy Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Everyone knows it's just a rumour that won't materialize into anything, but that doesn't mean we can't discuss it with a tongue in cheek mentality.
topharry123 Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 It said during the game on Sunday that he was 50/50 about retiring at the end of the season so it would most likely be short term anyway. In his day he was the best around, but think it would cost more disruption than it is worth now.
