I agree RVN was a shocking appointment. I do think the board would have still sacked Cooper as performances and results were poor (again, taking your point, that could be down to players not giving it their all)
-
Apart from a 3 - 0 defeat at Old Trafford. Cooper for me had no system and the points we picked up were more by luck, than deserved Spurs 1 -1 (h) - should have been out of sight before we scored Crystal Palace (a) 2 - 2 - Probably our best performance under Cooper and could have won. Everton (h) 1 -1 - a somewhat fortunate draw - could have gone either way Bournemouth (h) 1 - 0 - How we managed to win with one shot on target and Bournemouth totally outplaying us, is a mystery Southampton (a) 2 - 3 - Only started playing after Fatawu introduced and them down to 10 men Ipswich (a) 1 -1 Last minute goal after Ipswich were down to 10 men for a lengthy time All the defeats in between and afterwards were appalling. I can't think of many games where we were half decent. I'm not suggesting things got better with RVN, but I still think the outcome would have been the same had we retained Cooper. I do blame the board, not for sacking Cooper, but for appointing him in the first place.

I understand what you are saying, but I worked for a totally inept, uninspiring and useless boss. I was part of the Leadership team and would constantly question his decision making, but little changed. I know going to work and wanting to do my best was challenging working under such poor leadership. I think many of our experienced players saw just how poor our last 2 managers have been and have found it difficult to get motivated to play for them. Perhaps you would argue that the amount they are getting paid they should give it their all, but if you are demotivated and have no faith in the process, it's difficult.

I don't disagree with your argument, however, there were quite a few looking jaded towards the end of the season, KDH and Mavadidi in particular. Winks played most games in a 46 game season, along with many cup games, it's probably understandable he was getting tired (which may in fact add to your argument). I do agree players shouldn't rule the roost and they get paid silly amounts of money, but like I said this issue should have been discussed during contract talks.

Yes, I appreciate that. But I don't understand why he had to do it for one day. It's still the same distance every other day he's travelling, so he wouldn't be at his best on the other days. I'm sure many footballers travel similar distances. I travelled a 1.5hr journey too and from work for 34 years. It was only towards the latter years that I found it somewhat hard work. The club should have made it clear before signing him that it wasn't an option to travel such distances if they felt it would compromise his performances on matchdays. It didn't seem to be an issue under Maresca!

Unless there was an ongoing issue with punctuality to training, I can't see the argument for him staying over for one night a week. However, if there was a specific reason why he should stay at Seagrave one night a week, and other players were made to do the same, then yes, he's out of order. I would add, I don't know the specific reasons for RVN wanting him to stay over, but unless it's justified, it seems a strange decision to enforce.

No, but it's about getting us promoted and if we do go with Martin, then those I mentioned have proven to have been successful at Championship level playing that style of football. I also added Skipp and BEK as they could also be top players in the Championship (more so BEK).
-
Based on our last time in the Championship and the current squad, I'd say Winks, Vestergaard and Ricardo are all comfortable on the ball at this level, probably Skipp and BEK too
-
Yes I agree, but I wonder if RVN would use that excuse and say it was pretty much Cooper's squad for how poorly we've performed?
-
Except RM wasn't managing them when we beat them at home!
-
Yes - won 5 out of 25 before being sacked. Also in his playing career, was accused of deliberately getting himself sent off in a 3 - 0 defeat to Leicester by the then Newcastle manager John Carver.

Nice bloke, been dignified in his press conferences, but utter sh1te as a football manager and tactician. Very few top class players make outstanding managers, strange. Hope we go for someone who is given a clean slate, working with a new, competent DoF and instils (no pun intended) that 'Foxes Never Quits' attitude. -
Nuno - 'Why are you so fat' Mariakos - 'Sorry, Nuno, but every time I shag your wife, she bakes me a cake'
-
Yeah, you missed Henry VIII managed them for a fair chunk of the season. This bloke has done really well since he's come in.
-
Got to be his record breaking 11 from 11, but for comedy value, I loved the eagle impression when he scored at Palace.
-
I may be wrong, but I don't believe Vardy has his coaching badges, so if that's the case, it's a non starter.
-
Nigel should be DOfF (if health permits)
-
Yep, I agree and by the way I didn't compare either to Brighton

So, I'll ask again. Do you think Pearson would have won the league in 2016. Personally, I don't. Ranieri was pot luck, I agree, but he had that little bit of experience and knowledge of how to succeed. I still feel without Cambiasso's input, we'd have been back in the Championship.
-
Absolutely. What I didn't agree with was the original poster suggesting Vachai had done nothing and our success was all down to Pearson. Pearson was a part of that success, but, for me, Vichai had the understanding that he'd made a mistake sacking Pearson and was wise enough to employ him again. But to suggest all our success was down to Pearson is stretching it. It's a hypothetical question, but I wonder if Pearson would have been here for the 2015/16 season whether we would have still won the league? Perhaps we should be grateful to his son and partners in crime for the antics they got up to in Thailand which ultimately cost Nigel his job.
-
Honestly? Do you think we'd have won the league without Vichai taking over the club? Pearson was good, but let's remember, it was Cambiasso running the show that kept us up. Pearson didn't even play Albrighton initially, how bad a decision was that. I love Pearson and think he fits our club well, but he hasn't done that brilliant at other clubs without Shakespeare and Walsh along side of him.
-
They got so much right because of Vichai. Yes he made mistakes, but corrected those and learnt from them. To me Top is a ditherer and doesn't seem to learn from past errors. It took him too long to bin off Rodgers and here we are again with Rudkin. He should have gone a long time ago.

I can't think of a game this year that we have deserved to win, even our wins were fortunate. We were fortunate at Southampton that they had a player sent off, we somehow, more by luck than skill, stopped Bournemouth from scoring, West Ham dominated the game and had so many chances and Spurs did everything but equalise against us. Even our draws have been somewhat fortuitous. Both Brighton games we probably should have lost, Spurs at home they should have been out of sight by half time, a late goal against 10 man Ipswich was hardly convincing. Only Palace away could you say we were rather unlucky. -
The boot

He'd do ok in the Championship as his philosophy is the same as Enzo's and as most of the squad from last year's Championship team are still likely to be around, I can see a return to the Enzo style being successful. He came across better than I expected in the Lineker podcast and I think he may well have learnt and gained a better understanding of managing from his experience this year. I'm undecided if it would work out long term.
