PET HATES FROM COMMENTATORS/PUNDITS
foxile5 replied to OnlyOneCity's topic in General Football and Sport
Death by a thousand cuts. Every time one of these things is challenged you get a response of 'oh come on, don't be silly' but it just keeps happening. The NFL coming over here was a significant win for Americanised minds. Loads of folks wearing backward caps pretending to 'tailgate' in deepest London to watch the 'football'. It obviously appeals to a sector of people but I cannot understand why you'd trade a tradition with heritage and culture for soulless yee-hawery. -
PET HATES FROM COMMENTATORS/PUNDITS

The endless Americanisms that we're sleep-walking into. The upsetting thing is that the public laps it up giddily because they want to pretend they're Americans. "The quarterback role" "On the roster..." "The coach" - this has even permeated the game. We don't have managers anymore. "Overtime" "Match-up" "Rookie" It's all contributing to the great whole and the ghastly Americanisation of British sport. Every time it's raised people seem to object and suggest that it isn't going on but 15+ American owners of Premier League teams, NFL fixtures, American 'tours', t-shirt cannons, matchday experiences. These are all new things. Commentators desperately want to embed the nomenclature of American sports as they think it makes them sound cool. Fans want to be American sports fans as it's what they see on TV. The players want to be Americans because they're thick. I wouldn't mind but we do sports and sports culture better. We're trading down because the media we consume is making us. -
Katharine Birbalsingh defends ban on school prayers in high court | Schools | The Guardian This is an interesting case. I can see the side of the headteacher who - although she has been controversial in times gone by - genuinely does have a solid ethos supporting amazing exam results.

ex players that disappeared and what happened next

Ryan Smith. Looked the business; ****ed off to the backwaters of America. -
Oh - okay Les-TA-Jon. You've won. How do I prostate myself for your smug superiority? Lashes? -100 rep points fine?
-
Ahh. Not as funny as I first thought.

Banned on the third returns for Watford away on the tenth, isn't he?
-
He's elected to miss AFCON to play for us, got sent off, and now returns the day before AFCON. Outstanding.
-
Ugh.

It's a load of rubbish, though, isn't it? Never a problem until very recently. Easily remedied by wearing slightly bigger socks. Let's call it what it is - a 'look at me I'm so high functioning and need very specific conditions.. I'm really unique.' from professional footballers. It's attention seeking. Just like snoods, gloves and short sleeves, taping up all of your legs, tights, and all the other stuff we've seen come and go.

Think I passed these guys early this morning. Pair of scruffy looking ***** if so. Sent their best men out.

Phenomenal player. Utterly sublime. I've said a lot about his personality ( and I don't view him as a nice person at all ) but I won't bother expanding on this here. As a player the man was as close to a genius as I've ever seen in my lifetime. I didn't get to see Best, Weller, Worthington, Pele, or Maradonna. I did get to see Mahrez and I will almost certainly be talking about his ability until I lose my mind.

The most insulting thing is the price - costs less to get a pint of Asahi, imported from Japan, than it does for UK brewed Brewdog. It's total marketing at play. Though, I will say, Punk IPA is delicious.

Mr 1 in 5. As in 1 in 5 balls went to our man. The other 4 went to the opposition or sailing out of play.

The first half is correct. The second half is way off the mark - on form and committed, Jonny Evans is (was) an elite centerback. He was brilliant for us in parts. He just capitulated under pressure and poor management. The injuries issue is a bit suspect and we can certainly say he didn't fancy it but he was definitely terrific for us when he was on form.

That's precisely what I said. They're not a barometer for good judges of players.

They're no barometer of a good judge of player over there. They signed Gray for crying out loud.

Vardy is quite possibly the most natural striker we've ever seen. I'm very excited about Cannon looking decent - we need a successor - but I'm not about to go Flat Earth insane and suggest Vardy isn't a natural finisher. That's ****ing ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. He worked on it from his mid-twenties? I suppose all the goals at the lower leagues counted for nothing. Ridiculous commentary.

.... .... .... Come on now. Let's not go Michael Owen.
-
Missed a hat trick today. Even so - solid performance.

Stop drinking as much. I do dry January but hope this will kickstart a lot less drinking. Cycle more. Save more money.

Oh **** it's Christmas today

He's one of the dinosaurs that just won't leave.
