Game of Thrones. From S1-6, an absolute masterpiece in writing & pacing. Threading long, arching narratives and character development together with so many "main" characters had never been done so well. Then they shit all over its legacy with terrible creative and technical decisions in the 7th, and in particularly the final season. The writing went from some of the best in TV to some of the very worst. The last season felt like the longest "Previously on...." sequence in television history. The pacing was all over the place, with about 5 seasons condensed into one. Long established, years-long plot threads that were just left unresolved or seemingly forgotten about. Entire narratives just completely collapsed and character arcs dropped in favour of plot expediency. They'd spent a decade hyping these moments (The Night King) only for them to fizzle out in the most underwhelming way. The best case study of how to utterly destroy a beloved TV show. As you can tell, I'm still annoyed about it. The Walking Dead also went to shit.
