RedSoxUK Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32433528 Rotherham United have been deducted three points and fined £30,000 for fielding an ineligible player. The Millers played Derby defender Farrend Rawson in the 1-0 win over Brighton on 6 April, a day after the 18-year-old's youth loan had expired. Losing the three points means Rotherham are one point above the Championship relegation zone with three games left. United intend to appeal against the Football Disciplinary Commission decision before the 1 May deadline. In a statement, Rotherham said they were "very disappointed" by the decision. "We await the reasoned judgement of the FDC and once we have received it we will issue our appeal after discussion with Jim Sturman QC," it said. "In the meantime we are confident that our team possesses the will and spirit to ensure that the points deduction is academic by securing our Championship status on the pitch. "It would not be appropriate to make any further comment on this matter until after the appeal process has been concluded." Half of Rotherham's fine has been suspended until the end of next season, and the club must also pay the costs of the hearing. The ruling boosts Millwall's and Wigan's hopes of avoiding the drop, although Steve Evans's Rotherham have three games left to play compared to the other clubs' two. Rotherham are at home to Norwich on Saturday and Reading on Tuesday, before a trip to Leeds on the final day of the campaign.
RobHawk Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Seems a bit harsh! Didn't another club do the same thing earlier in the season and only get a fine? Can't have 1 rule for 1 and 1 rule for another - i'm sure the point deduction will be overturned at appeal.

Rotherham won the game in which the ineligible player took part, so seems fair to me.
Ashley Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Well this is Bullshit if I ever saw a case of one. Why not deduct West Ham points with Tevez saga? Because it's not the premier league thays why!
Mrfox452 Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Didnt sunderland avoid a points deduction last season. No consistency, just dont get the fa sometimes.

If you break the rules, the punishment shouldn't depend on whether you win the game or not.
tom27111 Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 If the result is the issue (which i don't believe it should be), then why not make them replay the game? If you break the rules, the punishment shouldn't depend on whether you win the game or not. I understand what you're saying, but effectively Rotherham have gained 3 points in a game where a player that shouldn't have been playing had an effect on the outcome of the match. These points have been taken off them. Blackpool didn't gain any points, so there's nothing to take off them. I agree that going forward, if this situation is to arise again, a set penalty of 3 points would avoid appeals and everyone knows where they stand. Obviously an extreme example, but if you're not going to take points off clubs, just give a fine, what's to stop Ronaldo and Messi turning out for someone on the last day of the season in a must win match? Chuck them a million quid each, win the game, get promoted/stay up and pay a small fine to the FA/Football League.
Vicki Vixen Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 If it was purely about the result, then surely Brighton would be awarded the 3 points by default? If it was a cup game, Brighton would automatically progress to the next round, so why not take the same approach in the league? The answer is because the authorities are so fickle they decide these matters on a case by case basis rather than coming up with a clearly defined outcome for each rule breach in advance.

Swarles Barkley Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 The worse thing about this is is that Millwall have a better chance of staying up

AKCJ Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 I wonder how much tele leaned on them to try and make the relegation places as interesting as the promotion ones.
Fox92 Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Makes it tight at the bottom now. I'd like Rotherham to stay up though.
Harry - LCFC Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 I wonder how much tele leaned on them to try and make the relegation places as interesting as the promotion ones. Do you think deducting three points was unfair then? Sometimes we don't need a conspiracy theory to explain something, sometimes the right course of action is taken.
Soar Fox Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 3 years ago Wigan fans were goading & celebrating Premiership safety in front of 2500 travelling Wolves fans who had been relegated. 3 years on and Wolves have the chance to relegate Wigan to league one on their own ground. Just goes to show how much & quickly things can change at clubs.

They played an illegible player but it just seems like one rule for some and another for the rest.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Waghorn likely to be warming a bench in League 1 next season then, must be fed up.
MPH Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Well this is Bullshit if I ever saw a case of one. Why not deduct West Ham points with Tevez saga? Because it's not the premier league thays why! Was Tevez an inelligable player? Or were there just dodgy dealings in his aquisition? Bit different...
Ashley Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Was Tevez an inelligable player? Or were there just dodgy dealings in his aquisition? Bit different... Owned by a third party which isn't allowed so yeah I would class this as the sane thing
Leicesterpool Posted 27 April 2015 Posted 27 April 2015 The worse thing about this is is that Millwall have a better chance of staying up That's the annoying part, never liked Millwall it's such an horrible image club.
