EUROPEAN FOOTBALL NEXT SEASON?!? (Fair Play League)

I know it's early days yet, as english football was third in the uefa fair play rankings at christmas, and only the top 3 leagues get an extra europa league fair play spot, but do we have a serious chance of making it here?

I appreciate that this might not be the complete table, but seeing as its off the FA website it is quite encouraging. Also, if we do manage to get it, it would mean that we enter in the first qualifying round, which would offer us some early glamour ties. Fulham got drawn against NSÍ Runavík from the faroe islands when they qualified through fair play, if that doesn't whet your appetite I don't know what will

If we got in through that route it'd mean starting the season at some disgusting time in july which i dont think would do the squad much good.

Would we really want a European campaign next season if we stayed up? Look at how Everton played first half of the season. Europa League clearly hindered their league form. I would want to be an established Premier League team safe in mid table before we embark on another European campaign. I would certainly fear another relegation scrap.

I do agree to a certain extent, however this thursday sunday europa league hinderance is bollocks. teams play wednesday saturday because of the champions league all the team and nobody ever brings that up. we just had chelsea on wednesday night and then newcastle as the EARLY saturday game, and stuffed them royally. Yes it wouldn't be ideal starting in early June, however pre season is underway by then anyway. Would just mean instead of playing walsall, port vale away etc. we'd be playing tromso or FC Sion, and I know which i'd prefer

but yeah probably an irrelevant topic anyway, the points system they use has far more considerations that just bookings. I was just getting ahead of myself when I saw it as I'd give my right arm to go to an away game in europe

I'd love to have some European participation next season. We'd certainly get in a couple of extra players too and better players would be tempted to play for us.

We've been so well disciplined this season.

As far as I remember we didn't have a single booking during that four-match winning run. Brilliant.

Not sure what's so bad about Europa for us. On the proviso that we did enough to stay up then it'd be a great adventure for us. Not to mention the fact if by some miracle we ever won the Europa we'd be in the UCL the next season.

I probably wouldn't be making the trips to Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Greece etc on cost but I'd love us to be in there and competing that's for sure.

Read Gab Marcotti's article on three ways to reform the EL. Definitely think regionalising the early part of the tournament would be a good idea. http://www.espnfc.co.uk/blog/marcotti-musings/62/post/2424677/europa-league-could-be-better-heres-how-writes-gab-marcotti

I was always under the impression that this was the fair play table?

Just looking at this and we have been rated the 16th best team for "positive play" not sure how we are that low to be honest but we should be due a points boost when it gets updated based on the criteria

2. Positive play

Maximum score = 10

Minimum score = 1

This is designed to encourage attractive play that will increase the enjoyment of spectators and the following areas are taken into consideration:

Positive

- Using attacking tactics, not defensive

- Speeding up the game

- Efforts to gain time (e.g. bringing the ball back into play quickly even if the team is in a winning position)

- Continuing to push for goals when in a winning position

Negative

- Slowing down the game

- Time wasting

- Tactics based on foul play

- Play-acting (simulation)

Probably due to the period of the season where our players got a nose bleed if they dared to cross the half way line.

Far too early in our progress to be looking at Europe.

C'Mon guys, I know the prospect of it IS exciting but even if we stay up (which I think we will) it will only be by the skin of our teeth. Add the distraction of the Europa league which not only adds a lot more games but let's not forget traveling too... Mid week jaunts to places like Russia and back in time for sat/sun kickoffs would make survival next year just as hard as this year and for what? European experience? Sure. Raising our stocks abroad? Sure but ultimately,we ain't gonna win it,some quality teams in that comp.

If we stay up this year, next year's focus should be making mid table and maybe a decent cup run. The year after that would be establishing ourselves as a mid table club and THEN maybe looking at Europe once our squad has a really good depth of quality

Unfortunately the table doesn't just go on reds and yellows. It is also based on: positive play, respect of opponents, behaviour towards match officials, behaviour of our club officials (Nigel lol) and behaviour of fans.

So we're currently in 9th. We could have gone up since 31st March though, so who knows.

Exactly. We've got no chance. Even though 7 teams qualify anyway, we won't be ahead of the other 13 because of our decent, though unremarkable disciplinary record, one charge of failure to control our players, and Nigel being generally hated by everyone who isn't a Leicester fan lol

That table was last updated on 31st March. I'd imagine it will improve with April's play.

I know that's why I said we should be due a points boost

If we're going to qualify for Europe, let's do it properly by lifting the FA Cup for the first time next year.

Hopefully we'll finish top 4 too, so we can sidestep the nonsense that is the Europa League

Who the hell has to sit and mark all of that... nothing about money spent? Dyche won't be happy.
