The only reason for gender specific carriages is so Ken can get a carriage with Corbyn without the interference of females!!

There is a 24 hotline, it's called the police??

The same police that have had their services cut?

Obviodsly the victims would not call the hotline while they are being raped. That is what we have caped crusaers for. It would  be for help and advice to get over the trauma. It is not a trivial or sniggering matter.

So people struggle to get a answer to a ringing 999???  Bullshit!!!!  Nobody thinks rape is trivial, it's the idea's and stupidity to help in such matters the laughable part!!!

There is a serious point to be made that support for survivors of rape and sexual assault needs to be improved and requires extra funding, but a 24 hour helpline only scratches the surface. Gender segregated train carriages are beyond barmy and not even worthy of discussion in 21st century Britain.

Unless Corbyn means the catering carriage it's an awful idea.

Presumably the next plan is racially segregated carriages to stop racial harassment.

I only mentioned ikt because the focus was on the segregaion idea which I agree is barmy. We do not know how much of this is taken out of context because it is who it is. A lot of centres for women from abusive relationships have been closed down or lost funding. He would be restoring the help that was there before this. The police are there for investigating and capturing the culprits not as a shoulder to cry on and getting a life back on track.

I'd also like train carriages to be segregated by religion too, to prevent harassment; I'd only feel comfortable in a carriage reserved for practitioners of neo-paganism.

I was looking for something else and this appeared. Nothing has changed much including the response.

I don't see anything 'far left' in this. I think he speaks quite well.

Also been watching vids of LBC phone ins questions to the candidates. I also do not see the other 3 as closet Tories.

Their views are not that different. Don;t believe everything you hear.

All four was asked whether they would have Ed Milliband in their cabinet and Corbyn was the only one that gave a straight answer. The others said they had not made their mind up.

It has to be Corbyn. Last question, What song would you have as Victory music and his was John Lennon's Imagine which he said is his favourite. It is also mine.

Interesting videos. It seemed to me that  Corbyn has not learnt the politician;s art of not answering a question by answering one that was not asked. Could be his downfall.

Oh he has Ken, just have a watch of him trying to squirm out of any recent interview where he is asked why he refers to Hamas and Hizbolloh as his friends.

Surely no one is going to be surprised Corbyn supports sex segregation?

Absolutely superb that story appears ten minutes after Ken tells us he's not that left wing.

I have no problem with you disagreeing with his politics and I'm not endorsing all of his views but you're not actually a right wing tabloid, you don't have to misrepresent the issue to smear the guy.

The idea of women only train carriages isn't enforced segregation because women are inferior or something inflammatory. They're just an optional carriage for women who don't want to face groping and abuse on the tube.

I'm not convinced those things are a significant issue in this country and I doubt it'll ever actually happen but the idea itself has merit.

They currently operate successfully in Japan where sexual harassment was an issue on the metro and they were implemented by a conservative Japanese government who are probably about as close to your politics as any government in the world, to be fair.

We're not Japan, we don't have anywhere near the sort of problems with public groping as the Japanese do or anything like their attitudes towards women, if we want to combat this sort of thing you don't make women even more of a target by seperating them  which is what this policy would do.

There is a reason why this idea has been condemned by virtually all from different sides of the political spectrum, it's Britain 2015 ffs.

Which is why it probably won't happen, as I said, I'm just saying the idea itself has merit.

I could understand if Corbyn came out and said women should be forced to travel separately from the men to appease some minority faith but this is an entirely optional practice that has a fairly proven track record.

What Finners said.

In that quote  I do not see where Corbyn has said he wants enforced segregation.

It is some woman that have put forward the suggestion. He has also said he wants public transport to be safe for all. Also there would be consultations on how it is to be done.

This looks a sensible approach rather than rush into it. This would give the public and mainly women groups to have their say as it should be done in a fair democracy.

I can see the pros and cons for both sides and trying to look at it rationally.

He also said it would be at times when attacks and harrassment are more frequently committed so it would not be a 24/7 thing and country wide. Another solution of course would be to have police or security guards patrol and stand over watching women. This may also come across as intimidating for women and would take up valuable resources. This is why there would be consultation first.

Did anyone else have Radio 5 on this morning around 8:15 and hear the two chaps they had on...One a Corbyn supporter, the other supporting Burnham and also (I think) head of a Labour supporters group in Basildon (something along those lines anyhow). I sh1t you not, within the space of 1.5 minutes, every single one of these was ticked off after being mentioned by the Corbyn supporter lol :

Blairite

Red Tory

Tartan Tory (in reference to Labour losing support in Scotland)

Closet Tory

Tory 'Lite'

I'm positive I missed one out there too. Are these people actually just playing a big game of Corbyn/Tory bingo with us? FULL HOUSE!

Coalition Tory? - Was used on Radio 4 the other day to refer to any leftie who voted Lib Dem to keep the coalition going rather than vote for Labour.

I hear a lot of people banging on about Corbyn is great he will revitalize the labour party etc etc.. people seem to forget Labour only lost by a slender amount, do Labour really need to make such a gamble with their Leader?  Obviously it's down to the members to decide but I can't help but feel a smaller change like Burnham is the right choice and then concentrate on policy to win the relatively small amounts of seats needed to gain power.

It may well have been actually. The whole thing has become a parody of itself, it's not even funny now. This army of fools has gotten louder and louder to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if people with only a slight interest in politics start to believe it all.

It's people like Bilo who I feel bad for, who are genuine and are trying their best for the party, only to get shouted down and to be left 'holding the baby', after everyone else jumps on the next bandwagon. Good luck to you!

I believe there are taxi firms that have female drivers for women. Can;t see a problem if a train is empty and a carriage being reserved if wanted. But the subject has been hyped and twisted. All he said is that he is willing to discuss it.At least he is listening even if it is a barmy idea Maybe they have picked on this because it sounds the barmiest on the surface and looks better as an headline.

Exactly, I'm surprised mattp reaction to this, UKIP views often get misrepresented and matt's quick to defend them, yet here he's doing the opposite, it's nothing to do with forcing women to travel seperately or treating women with less respect etc.....But actually trying to make them feel safe as clearly theres a problem and some women feel uneasy and would welcome changes.

Are you surprised that the Tory Transport Minister has previously said at the party conference that she was 'open to the idea of women only carriages'?

Or is it only to be ridiculed when it comes from Corbyn?

Given it's Claire Perry no it doesn't surprise me, she's absolutely hopeless and if she wasn't a woman wouldn't be running a Conservative branch let alone have ministerial responsibilities.
