Does Hull, Sunderland, even Newcastles demise give us food for thought for next season.

Is there something we can learn from their shortfalls , over the last 2 seasons???

Eg: I think many thought that Hull might improve from last year, and more than hold their own.

Don't play players who are on cocaine

So many teams get the second season wrong. We CAN'T stick with what we've got, much as they've done a magnificent job. The squad is tiny and even with several signings the players who have achieved survival can still hope for 20 Premier League appearances next season. I would look to sign Premier League class in every position.

Don't go making changes too fast, unless you've got stupid money and buy the best!!

Let the people who know about football run the football club.

Not becoming Leicester Foxes FC would also be a nice bonus!

Oh I wasn't talking about tactics mate I just don't want the players to be on cocaine

I don't mean bringing XI players but I think if you identify a readily available and affordable player in any position I would be open to bringing them in.

I was going to make a separate thread, but this one seems on topic... Just been doing some research about relegations from the Premier League, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd seasons after promotion. The results are interesting reading:

92/93: FIRST SEASON

93/94: 1st Season: Swindon Town - 2nd Season: N/A - 3rd Season: N/A
94/95: 1st Season: Crystal Palace, Leicester City - 3rd Season: N/A
95/96: 1st Season: Bolton Wanderers
96/97: 1st Season: Sunderland - 2nd Season: Middlesbrough - 3rd Season: Nottingham Forest
97/98: 1st Season: Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers, Crystal Palace - 3rd Season: Bolton Wanderers
98/99: 1st Season: Charlton Athletic, Nottingham Forest
99/00: 1st Season: Watford
00/01: 1st Season: Manchester City - 2nd Season: Bradford City
01/02: 2nd Season: Ipswich Town
02/03: 1st Season: West Bromwich Albion
03/04: 1st Season: Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers
04/05: 1st Season: Crystal Palace, Norwich
05/06: 2nd Season: West Bromwich Albion
06/07: 1st Season: Sheffield United, Watford
07/08: 1st Season: Birmingham City, Derby County - 2nd Season: Reading
08/09: 1st Season: West Bromwich Albion
09/10: 1st Season: Burnley - 2nd Season: Hull City
10/11: 1st Season: Blackpool
11/12: 3rd Season: Wolverhampton Wanderers
12/13: 1st Season: Reading - 2nd Season: Queens Park Rangers
13/14: 1st Season: Cardiff - 3rd Season: Norwich City
14/15: 1st Season: Burnley, Queens Park Rangers - 2nd Season: Hull City???

1st Season Relegations: 28
2nd Season Relegations: 7
3rd Season Relegations: 4
Total Historical Relegations: 67

In summary, approx. 42% of promoted teams were relegated straight away, 10.5% suffer 2nd season syndrome, 6% got unlucky after 3 seasons. So it looks slightly brighter in terms of our chances of staying up next season than I thought - at least from the historical trends :P

I don't see us in that mould. What those teams did was replace their core with more "experience" and I don't believe that is the way to go. Stick to the main players that got us promoted which we have, with one or two additions. Another thing was that apart from Albrighton and Huth we haven't signed anyone from a PL club. Ulloa was one of the best in the Championship which is better than one of the worst in the PL. I don't see us going that way with the scouting system we have and the players Pearson likes to bring in. Don't worry about that. We will go down only if the players we buy don't perform, not because of buying bad eggs from other clubs.

2nd season syndrome isn't uncommon but I think give the way we've ended the season we will be alright.

The challange for Nigel and us as a club will be to improve on our finishing position this season if we finish 14th or possibly even 13th.

Personally I'd like to see us take the cups a bit more seriously as well. Especially the League Cup, can't be going out in the 2nd round again.

So 'Second Season Syndrome' is a myth?
