davieG Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Foxes track Hamburg pair LEICESTER, LATEST NEWS UPDATE: 51 MINUTES AGO Leicester City watched soon-to-be out of contract Hamburg duo Marcell Jansen and Rafael van der Vaart in action at the weekend. The Foxes' German scout was in Stuttgart for the Bundesliga clash with Hamburg to check out potential summer signings. Jansen, 29, can operate as a left full back or winger and would strengthen Nigel Pearson's options in a key area of the squad. Van der Vaart, 32, has had a poor season in Germany and is looking for a two-year deal elsewhere. - See more at: https://www.clubcall.com/leicester-city/foxes-track-hamburg-pair-1769771.html?#sthash.EHACmRbl.dpufRead more at: https://www.clubcall.com/leicester-city/foxes-track-hamburg-pair-1769771.html?

davieG Posted 18 May 2015 Author Posted 18 May 2015 Well it's not surprising searching titles didn't find him. I always think we should have separate threads for linked players. If no one posts in here I'll delete it.

johnny the fox Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 see the hill ? van der vaart has long gone over it..
Swiper Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 Van Der Vaart is eeeh. Jansen, on the other hand, would be a great signing. I mentioned him in the big thread a few weeks ago, but I thought it would just be wishful thinking. You put him on the Huth's left side and that would be a beastly defense.
Webbo Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 Is this the first time a moderator is openly correcting an admin? I couldn't resist.
les-tah Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 just posted this in the Van der vaart thread but the only worry is hamburg are about bottom of the bundesliga and they are not renewing his contract? im just reading between the lines.

Ozwin Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 Couldn't believe he's only 29. Seems to have been around forever.
Narborough_fox Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 just posted this in the Van der vaart thread but the only worry is hamburg are about bottom of the bundesliga and they are not renewing his contract? im just reading between the lines. Jansen is one of their top earners and they've been struggling in relegation battles for while so tying up to a contract and then getting relegated could put Hamburg in a bit of financial trouble.
MPH Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 see the hill ? van der vaart has long gone over it.. He's 32 or 33? Cambiasso..our player of the season is 34.
Koke Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 Jansen would be a good signing. I'm not convinced with Van der Vaart. He's always had ability but never been known for his work ethic. I wouldn't mind him on a one year rolling contract I guess but he demands relatively high wages. Jansen we need. Vdv not so much.
psychonaut Posted 20 May 2015 Posted 20 May 2015 Jansen seems to be a little injury prone. Been a little unlucky in his international career had numerous opportunities to stamp his mark on the national team albeit for injuries. His experience down the left flank could be invaluable though.
Foxymcoxy Posted 20 May 2015 Posted 20 May 2015 45 Germany caps, only 29 still, would fit right in at LWB....seems very good on paper. Haven't seen him play at all for a long time and not very much in the first place but if our scouts have done their usual thorough job and given him the OK then I would be thrilled with this.

Foxymcoxy Posted 20 May 2015 Posted 20 May 2015 where would that leave jeff? i think jeff and his horrendously quick pace have been key in this area. First choice I hope. Healthy competition isn't going to do the lad any harm.
Koke Posted 20 May 2015 Posted 20 May 2015 I just looked through his stats and he does seem a bit injury prone. 15 league appearances this season. Only 8 in 2015. He's made 144 league appearances for Hamburg in 7 years.
Finnegan Posted 20 May 2015 Posted 20 May 2015 Vdv has seen better days, is made of glass, is lazy and would want a hefty paycheck. His missus can come mind.

Finnegan Posted 21 May 2015 Posted 21 May 2015 Holy ****, really? Jeeeeesus. They were like the posh n becks of Holland no?
MC Prussian Posted 21 May 2015 Posted 21 May 2015 Holy ****, really? Jeeeeesus. They were like the posh n becks of Holland no? Then he ditched sweet Sylvie for his former teammate's ex because he thought sweet Sylvie was having an affair of her own. As you can imagine, German tabloids are all over all three protagonists involved to this day. Wait a second - how did we get here again?

Not so worried about that as they probably can't afford his wages after relegation. Only concern would be is he still any good. I haven't seen him at hamburg to comment. 32 is not old and he was a great player but sounds like he's been poor for a while.
