Champions League 2015/16

Too many players playing in our "top four clubs" aren't World Class. As usual, they look good domestically but put them in Europe and they fail.

I think it is about complacency.

Look at the side Mourinho put out last night.

No Oscar, Hazard, Matic. . Players left at home. And Porto away is not an easy fixture.

If Mourinho wanted to drop players to make an example of them, he did this in the Champions League..showing he's not overly bothered about losing the game?

Bizarre really...the Champions League has become less important to the likes of him and Wenger than the Premiership is.

Exactly, but they still command world class fees. The Premier League just isn't that good.

Exactly.

And AKCJ, there seriously isn't 8/9 clubs who have genuine cases of making the top four, there is 6 at a push. It's the end of September, stop getting carried away.

Whether our teams are world class is not the question here, if they were getting to the knockouts and losing to Barca and co then you could say its because they are not at that level. The English teams should be good enough to beat the sides they have lost too, with the exception of Juventus and maybe Porto so it has to be more down to mentality, the managers send out the wrong message to the players when they rest players. Win you're first couple of group games then you can rest a couple.

Its still early days though, Arsenal might struggle now but the other 3 should still qualify.

Well 7th placed finished on 60 points las season which was only 10 shy.

I've seen nothing so far that those teams are pulling away and more that there are more set to join them in the fight (West Ham and Everton look like they'll be 60+ this season IMO.

In March the teams from 4th to 7th were within 3 points of each other. It's more that the sides that get the top four regularly have the experience and squad depth to complete the job.

Spot. On.

The Premier League isn't a 4 team show now. There are genuine cases for about 8/9 teams making the top 4.

There is no threat to the likes of Juve, Barca, the Madrids, Bayern and Porto.

Says it all when Wenger would rather play a stronger side away at Leicester to win there than the must win game at home to Olympiakos.

I personally think that the Premier League is unparalleled in terms of excitement, "moments" and the like that Sky trot out. But watch something like El Classico and you soon realise that in terms of quality, nobody is up there.

I honestly think right now the likes of Atletico Madrid could probably win the Premier League.

We might even hang onto that fourth spot. We've been dire but Italy haven't pulled up any trees either. Roma lost at BATE last night. It's the Europa League where they'll beat us.

Clubs in England are only bothered about qualifying for it rather than performing in it. Arsenal are the prime example. Incredibly soulless.

Don't talk shit lol. There is no threat for Chelsea, United and City really. Who are the only teams that win our league, more teams have won the Bundesliga in the past ten years than the amount of teams that have won the prem. This myth of competitiveness really is beginning to get irritating.

Agree with this, whilst we continue to piss around on Thursday nights, other European countries take it seriously which is where we will lose out.

Yep, I think Athletico with the likes of Griezmann would do very well over here.

Although I still think that a well managed Man City would be nigh on untouchable in our league.

I'm talking about finishing in the top 4, not about winning the league.

Remember when we were dominating Europe? When it was literally exclusively United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. It's definitely not like that now and that really is undisputable. The top 4 has changed each season for the past 6 seasons. Before that nobody had a chance. In fact only Everton managed to get into the top 4 between 2003 and 2008 and Liverpool still qualified in 5th.

it is quite remarkable that cambiasso can clearly still be motm in champions league games and we somehow convinced him to join a relegation scrap for some nobody team for a year lol

To be fair I thought Cambiasso was very very good last night.

I still think the Prem is the best division in the world. It's the quickest and the most exciting bar none.

It doesn't have the best teams but the average of all the teams is the best.

On any given day, any of the top can beat any of the bottom and vice - versa.

This rarely happens in the other leagues. Or at least, not as often.

West Ham will not get 60 points + this season! lol Jesus Christ, some people don't half get carried away on here.

The top four will be the same as last season, 5th, 6th and 7th will be Liverpool, Spurs and Everton (in any order) and then you'll have a gap with the rest.

If Simeone or Guardiola managed Man City they would absolutely dominate the English game. Mancini & Pellegrini are both good but not quite at the level of the players Man City have in my opinion.

Correct me if I'm being an idiot but who out of Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool (once), Arsenal & Man Utd has qualified for the Champions League in the last five years?

Don't get me wrong they switch around a bit, which is something you can't really say about Germany or Italy, but it's hardly open for everyone is it? I bet England's had less different sides make the Champions League in the last five years than the other four major European leagues and that's despite two of those having only three spots.

Whilst I think the overall quality of the Premier League isn't what it was, it is definitely quite interesting in the sense that a lot of the middle sides got stronger whilst the top haven't really at all.

the second half of this astana game has been legit one of the best champo league games ive seen in ages. i have no idea of 99% of the people on the pitch but it is great. most of them are shit (especially the goalkeepers who have been basically 100% at fault for all 4 goals) but they all look like they're having a great time.

massively freaking me out the way james richardson keeps calling cska "suska" as if it's a word and not the letters C, S, K and A.

Savage trying to make Aguero scoring a penalty sound exciting was excruciating listening.
