Dan Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 That's Arsenal out surely. No points from games against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos is disgraceful and they've still got Bayern home and away to play. At this rate they'll finish 4th.
Neil_LCFC Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 The fire drill Arsenal fans were singing about saturday when they were 3 goals up, seems to have gone off at the Emirates tonight and emptied the place ,and they were only one goal behind.
whoareyaaa Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 You buy a world class keeper to win you trophies and then stick him on the bench in the most saught after trothy, clueless Wenger needs to retire.
Leicesterpool Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 Wenger treats the champions league like the league cup.
Jimothy Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 Wenger treats the champions league like the league cup. He really doesn't though does he!
Guest MattP Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 Surely Sky are gonna pull that Henry advert for a bit at least?
Jimothy Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 Surely Sky are gonna pull that Henry advert for a bit at least? Depends on the definition of best. The advert is clearly trying to say that the PL is the most exciting, engaging and unpredictable league in the world, not the one with the best players and best teams.
Guest MattP Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 You think? I'd say the advert is trying to claim it's the best league in the World in terms of quality. They need to do it properly next year to avoid confusion. "Do I really need to tell you this is the most engaging and perhaps unpredictable league in World"
ScouseFox Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 gotta say i am getting quite pissed off with "the premier league" all being categorised together when talking negatively. we aren't shit, aren't boring, haven't overspent on average players and don't lose in europe every week. leave teams like us out of this bashing.

"Do I really need to tell you this is the most engaging and perhaps unpredictable league in World" It shows all the crazy, unpredictable moments over the last 20 plus years, it wasn't showing pictures of supposed great players and trying to big them up. I'm not how you can see the advert as trying to say we have the best teams, it shows clips from games between Newcastle and Liverpool from nearly 20 years ago, it has clips of WBA for ****s sake, how is that trying to say we have the best teams? Best doesn't have to mean best teams and best players. I'd have said a few years back to Championship was one of the best leagues around because it was so entertaining and competitive, but it's clearly not got the best players.

Agreed, however the absolute nose-dive in quality is an absolute embarrassment considering the money our clubs spend. Saying that though the vast VAST majority is pissed up the wall on absolute shit from abroad. All that TV money is doing nothing but funding foreign leagues and clubs as very little is spent on our own talent, on our own grass-roots or even helping to bring down the cost of attending matches. Something's going to have to give soon.
Wymsey Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 The fellow league teams are hindering our chances of participating in the Champions League for the first time.

Something's going to have to give soon. Gary Neville made a good point the other week on Monday night football. Teams are throwing £11m-£15m at players. For that you should be expecting a game changer, but you're just getting an average player, and teams don't seem to bothered when they cast them off. Man City have spent about £60m on two very average centre backs in the last couple of years. Crazy.

Valid. I get accused of bias when I say it but Leicester genuinely are one of, if not the most entertaining side in the league, and we've done it through spending prudently and actually having a proper system in place. A lot of clubs could learn a thing or two from the way Leicester have done it. The top teams in England are as weak as I think they have ever been though. Honestly it's laughable how bad they are in Europe. How have they gotten it this wrong?
Grandad. Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 Remember my post about the squads the top four had from 2007-2010, crazy how the top flight clubs have declined over the years. Here's a list of some of the players that were in the Premier League from 2005-2012 that obviously played in the Champions League, from when Liverpool won it to when Chelsea won the Champions League and the last time an English side won the trophy and reached the final.. Carlos Tevez, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Fernando Torres, Michael Essien, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Luis Suarez, Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Michael Ballack, Robin Van Persie, Thierry Henry, Edwin Van Der Sar, Patrice Evra, Paul Scholes, Ricardo Carvalho, Arjen Robben and probably many more.. Are today's Champions League squads boasting anything like some of them names? Sergio Aguero, Alexis Sanchez, Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Wayne Rooney, David Silva, Yaya Toure, Bastien Schweinstiger, Cesc Fabregas, Raheem Sterling.. Who else is on the top European level. Like so many of the ones above were?
Donut Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 Id say David De Gea, Joe Hart, Thibault Courtois, Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany, Anthony Martial (potentially), Matteo Darmian, Cesar Azpilicueta, Mesut Ozil (when he can be bothered to show up) might be on your list. Whatever way you look at it though, Premier League has got weaker.
C-man Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 The fellow league teams are hindering our chances of participating in the Champions League for the first time. Appreciate you're not being serious but you actually don't have anything to worry about. England has somehow managed to extend its lead over Italy so far this season. Presumably on account of Lazio not qualifying for the CL Group Stages.

Like so many of the ones above were? I don't think it's got that much weaker in terms of number of quality players. I just think the English representatives are failing to prepare adequately for games - presumably out of pure arrogance. There's only so much 'best league in the world' hyperbole these players can take without believing it. That and the fact other top teams are getting stronger and more monopolistic in their domestic league, which allows them to focus more on the CL. I'm not talking about Zagreb and Olympiakos - these are results borne out of Wenger's arrogance - but rather teams like Bayern, Juve, PSG. Sounds like an excuse but there must be an element of truth in it - why else is it only us that treat the EL with such disdain?

There are genuine cases for about 8/9 teams making the top 4. There is no threat to the likes of Juve, Barca, the Madrids, Bayern and Porto. Says it all when Wenger would rather play a stronger side away at Leicester to win there than the must win game at home to Olympiakos. I personally think that the Premier League is unparalleled in terms of excitement, "moments" and the like that Sky trot out. But watch something like El Classico and you soon realise that in terms of quality, nobody is up there.
Super_horns Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 Arsenal were probably just complacent. Sure they got 5 goals against you guys but you could have got a few more yourself - their defence is a mess at times. The other 3 have lost to decent European sides (Porto/Juve and PSV) Clearly Chelsea aren't the same team as last season anyway (when they got knocked out by PSG) and are Man City set up well enough to play in Europe? It wouldn't be a total surprise if Wolfsburg got something at Man U but the media will make it out to be if they do... As for the Europa league - well I am still wondering why a footballer should be anymore tired playing Thursday/Sunday than playing Wednesday/Saturday but there I guess they all need to be in peak condition for what is probably the quickest league in the world?
