Ulloa

Austin fits Palace best surely? If they stump up the funds, they'll get him. They'll be in great shape for this season then too. Cabeye already in and a great signing, plus full season under Pardew.

It's a rehash of a story from last year where Parish said Ulloa was considered under Holloway but they surprised he started the season so well with us. Palace are after a striker and that's been used as the link.

Thought Newcastle would be his best option but they're after Mitrovic instead first.

I'd put money on West Ham taking Austin tbh.

He'd  probably increase our chances of getting Cambiasso  to stay and we're  probably the last team out of all those after Austin that he'd  choose to join.

This. You could tell last season that there was a friendship there that grew overtime.

It's not about having two strikers, we need two players at least for every position. Selling Ulloa to pay for Austin shouldn't be the plan. Having quality players able to come off the bench is vital for PL success.

We They (The owners) would be stupid to sack our best manager in years but it happened.

I could suggest Nigel Pearson would be stupid to take the best job he's ever had and throw it away, but that would be as much of a non sequitur as your post.

No no no he is Esteban's best friend.... Also I love his bullet headers....

Was the one player Pearson really, really insisted we bring in.

Hes slow. Can barely control a ball. And just looks shattered after 40 minutes. I really don't rate him. Never have never will

If you've never rated our top goalscorer last season that scored more than double any of our other strikers.

I dread to think how badly you rate the others.....

Need to keep him. Maybe not the best first touch, but can't take away the fact top goal scoring and will continue to improve.

Also don't underestimate the work he does defending corners.

Unless the new manager freezes him out, I can see Ulloa having a better year now that he has one years experience of top level football under his belt.

A fair point, often overlooked.

Proper 'Old School' centre forward, not many about so please keep him......

Up the City....

Old school like Austin, rate Ulloa but rate Austin more, would ideally want both though.

Must watch a different player. I've seen some class first touches from the man. Top scorer in his first season in the prem and people don't rate him. Mental.

the november/december period when he was not in form some of his first touches from goal kicks were ending up closer to our goal than him, but i agree, his touch on the whole is often very nice. the start and end of season runs he was showing great control, great hold up play and laying the ball of nicely to whoever wanted it.

if he can keep up the level of august-october and swansea onwards then i don't care who we sign, he'll be playing. probably gonna have problems if his form drops though seen as we've got about 8000 strikers.

I have a horrible feeling that Ulloa was another player who looked better and played better for Pearson.

Of many of the players we have at the club, I wonder whether Ulloa might suffer the most now Nige has gone.

Together with Vardy and Morgan I suspect.

Just a thought.

Different view but I guess there's a flip side of everything. How did he throw it away? Because of the "incidents" he was involved in?

There was also the February and March period in which all he did was foul people. He completely killed us at Arsenal by ending every attack in the last 10 minutes with a foul.

Pearson obviously really trusted him though; I think he played a part in all bar one league game which when you consider that he only scored twice in the league between September and April goes to show the value NP saw in him away from the goals.

yeah the period when he was being used as a last 20 min sub was bizzare, he was awful. like you say as soon as we brought him on every week we basically admitted defeat. tbf it wasn't all his fault, we often went from playing patient football just not quite getting the breaks for 70 mins to smack it as high and as hard as you can towards the big man and hope he brings it down, holds off 4 defenders and then scores.

yeah nige loved him, another reason that as soon as he has a bad run next season he won't get the same chance to get back into the team etc.
