The Doctor Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 I get people peak later but how does it suggest they will last longer? Especially Vardy who is heavily reliant on his pace. Because Vardy arguably hasn't peaked yet given he started 3/4 years ago... They don't last longer at their peak, but he's started later, so he should reach his peak later, plus the 2/3 seasons at your peak - he's probably got more left at the top level than Ulloa.
Soar Fox Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 I don't think it's how earlier or late you started as to whether you'll last longer more to do with how you look after yourself & body. Take Ryan Giggs for instance he started playing regularly at 18 and carried on playing at the top level until he was 40. When he lost his pace he moved more central, would Vardy be able to do that? Because like Costock said most of vardy's game relies heavily on pace and workrate which as he gets older he'll lose. Oh yeah, I agree on the pace factor but that wasn't the counter argument presented. The Doctor hit the nail on the head really; Vardy won't be at his peak yet and because his body has been under the rigours of somebody like Ulloa, he should be able to keep going at a higher standard for longer. As you say though, players adapt when they lose their pace and the technical/tactical/mental side of the game is where Vards has improved so he could easy off-set the loss of pace with improvements in his game. I also reckon that because of the limited intensive training he has done throughout his career, he won't lose his pace so early. Look at Justin Gatlin. He's been the fastest man in the world this year (Drugs influenced or not) and he's 33. He probably benefited being away from full-time athletics. I wasn't trying to say it is fact with Vardy, more that it's extremely ignorant to think that just because Vardy is close to 30, he's on the decline/won't get any better.
VLC86 Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 A bottle of wine later and I have no idea what we were talking about but pretty sure I was right

Carl the Llama Posted 18 July 2015 Posted 18 July 2015 I forgot footballers have a mileage up there with one of the most ridiculous things i have read on this forum and I watched Prekigate unfold. Why do you think the owners wanted a Japanese player? Cheaper repairs.

Great logic until you realise that Vardy has a history of back problems.
AyewJoking Posted 18 July 2015 Posted 18 July 2015 Is Vardys peak going to be better than Ulloa's peak? (that is who we're comparing him to right????) Does this mean Ulloa is past his peak?

Gerard Posted 18 July 2015 Posted 18 July 2015 Why would we sell players that are good enough for mid table when we aren't a mid table team yet? Surely that would set us back. Mid table players are easier to replace than top 6 players especially when you have £15m to spend. The better you get the pool of players becomes less. There are plenty of players in the world who would improve Leicester City, less so Barcelona.
Richard Posted 18 July 2015 Posted 18 July 2015 He didn't really start later though, he started aged 17 getting the shit kicked out of him on terrible pitches every week. He was still pushing his body towards it's limit it was just a much lower limit. The lad does have incredible natural fitness, so he may well last longer in the game but I'm not having it down to him playing at a lower level

At the minute he has a sports science team telling him how hard he should push it, playing on a perfect pitch and all the technology to show what is happening to his body. That clearly wasn't the case at lower league.
Loggy88 Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Don't want Ulloa to go. He isn't respected enough in my opinion by the fans, take his goals out the side and we would of gone down surely. Austin is a very good striker but 15m after one good season? But pricey for me.
CosbehFox Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Mario Gomez? Yes, awaiting Gomez to sign the contract
palace123 Posted 31 August 2015 Posted 31 August 2015 Palace fan in Peace Rumour is we are back in for Ulloa Maybe you guys may sell and use the money for Austin? Dont shoot the messenger, just passing it on.
Banks Posted 31 August 2015 Posted 31 August 2015 I'd be more than happy for Ulloa to depart for Austin.
Wymsey Posted 31 August 2015 Posted 31 August 2015 He's only dangerous from corners and set-pieces, and as we aren't a 'hoof ball' team and a on-the-ground fast style of play, he won't get much of a chance imo.
wattolcfc Posted 31 August 2015 Posted 31 August 2015 I'll be gutted, simply because my two favourite chants for Ulloa and Cambiasso will not be sung again this year #badtimes
