ballisimo Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Anyone who wants to sell a player that scores 10+ premier league goals at a club of our level either doesn't know anything about football or are simply f'in crazy!
Gerard Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Anyone who wants to sell a player that scores 10+ premier league goals at a club of our level either doesn't know anything about football or are simply f'in crazy! Or doesn't know anything about economics? Just because he scored 10+ goals for us doesn't mean there isn't a better in the world than would come to us than Ulloa. If you get a very good offer and you could utilise that money to improve then you have to do it.
psychonaut Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Anyone who wants to sell a player that scores 10+ premier league goals at a club of our level either doesn't know anything about football or are simply f'in crazy! Depends on the context. Would you swap Ulloa for Austin? You wouldn't sell if we were offered £20m? Everyone has their price.
65RosesFox Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 As stupid as it sounds I didn't realise he scored as many as he did (11 was it?). Seems like on paper it flatters his season a bit. I guess getting the first 5 or so really quickly is why it looks better. It's not a coincidence that his goals dried up when we started playing a diamond in midfield or one upfront. As soon as Albrighton started playing regualarly towards the end of the season he was back scoring. He thrives on balles being whipped into the box where he is a threat aerially or if the ball breaks loose isnide the area. Or doesn't know anything about economics? Just because he scored 10+ goals for us doesn't mean there isn't a better in the world than would come to us than Ulloa. If you get a very good offer and you could utilise that money to improve then you have to do it. Or you could improve on the strikers that didn't get anywhere near as many goals as Ulloa and keep your top goalscorer.....
Buce Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Unlike me. I'm usually quite a wordsmith. Indeed. I did assume it was an absent-minded typo, but the pedant in me couldn't resist it.
dannythefox Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Can't see this happening as we would then need 2 strikers.

Number 6 Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 I'd be quite happy to sell both Vardy & Ulloa for £15m apiece. They're both late 20's and will never be more than mid table PL players. Sell them both, get the best part of £30m and bring in a £15m-£20m striker from abroad. Someone like Anthony Martial from Monaco if we're going for ex Ranieri players. I know a lot of you would be against it but when players are at their peak value or you get offered more than their worth you have to sell and bring in another player. At their peak value they're also usually at the peak of their footballing abilities. I'm glad you're not in charge of transfers. We won't be able to attract top talent until we're established. Vardy and Ulloa aid that. The selling model works for Soton because they can attract a better calibre of player. Also think it's wise for us to keep player turnover relatively low.

Dan Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Ulloa shows some nice touches but no real consistency in doing so whereas with say... Kramarić, his control is normally always on point.
Soar Fox Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 You've lost me Basically an L reg ford Orion with 20,000 miles on the clock is better than a 14 reg BMW with 100,000
Bellend Sebastian Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Basically an L reg ford Orion with 20,000 miles on the clock is better than a 14 reg BMW with 100,000 I had a K reg one and frankly the handling characteristics were alarming
stix Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Basically an L reg ford Orion with 20,000 miles on the clock is better than a 14 reg BMW with 100,000 Would still have the bimmer.
VLC86 Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Vardy's situation is different though. He may be 28 but he's only been playing professional football for 3/4 years so he doesn't have anywhere near the same miles on his clock as somebody like Ulloa. I forgot footballers have a mileage up there with one of the most ridiculous things i have read on this forum and I watched Prekigate unfold.
AKCJ Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Basically an L reg ford Orion with 20,000 miles on the clock is better than a 14 reg BMW with 100,000 Lets play spot the bmw owner.

So you think having 4 years of full-time training is as demanding as 10 years then? Because every 26/27 year old makes the improvements Vardy has. I can think of one ex-player currently involved in our set-up who followed a similar career trajectory to Vardy and kept getting better.... I'm pretty comfortable how 'ridiculous' I'll look when logic pans out

If we have players that other clubs are actively seeking then we put a premium on them. I'm quite happy to sell players who I consider to be mid table PL standard for the best part of £15m. We can keep a low turnover on players because not many sides are aggressively trying to buy our players. Outside the EPL there are not many clubs in the world who can compete with us financially, I'd rather use that money to cherry pick somebody else's best player and have an improvement on a Vardy or Ulloa. Outside England £15m buys you a lot.
dmayne7 Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 So by your logic, if you don't use your legs they will work for longer? Nice. No. If you don't overdo something, it should last for longer. Oh, and by your logic, everything is black and white? Nice.

The Doctor Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 So by your logic, if you don't use your legs they will work for longer? Nice. That's not what they're saying though, it's quite obvious they're pointing out that those that start later tend to peak later (See Ian Wright for another example)

I may have articulated it poorly but I'm still not quite sure how people don't get it. I'm not suggesting it's fact, but it's common sense. Trying to use a car as an analogy?! I can only hope Claudio gives us similar faces.

Especially Vardy who is heavily reliant on his pace.
