The Doctor Posted 18 May 2016 Posted 18 May 2016 What do you get to hold up for going out in the Quarters / Semis of a competition? Do you get an opened top bus ride for that? It's winning things that counts! True, but to win this they have to royally bugger up another tournament. It's like Man City throwing the FA cup this season to focus on the league and CL; if it works and you get some silverware, great, but there's no guarantee you'll get it, and then throwing away a different chance of silverware looks a bit stupid.
Corky Posted 18 May 2016 Posted 18 May 2016 Sevilla are hardly ever likely to win the league or Champions League, this gives them an opportunity to have some memorable nights and put silverware in the cabinet. I'm sure they'd like to do well in the Champions League but if this is the consolation prize I'm sure they'll gladly take it.
Guest MattP Posted 18 May 2016 Posted 18 May 2016 Great stuff, they got beat and we haven't been banned from Europe because of their fans. Would have taken that like a shot at 7pm

Maybe you should have said Spurs as your example! But let's face it, for a club the stature of Seville, this is pretty damn good stuff. Are you saying you wouldn't be delighted if Leicester ended up as a 3 times consecutive winner of the '2nd tier' European competition? The fact you didn't go further in another competition would be long forgotten. Now whether lucky losers in the Champions League should join this one - that's another debate!
Kitchandro Posted 18 May 2016 Posted 18 May 2016 I don't really get the Europa League. The European Cup was formed so that the best teams in each country could compete for an ultimate European title. To find out who the best team in Europe is, if you will. What does winning the Europa League/UEFA Cup prove? You're only in it if you're not good enough to be in or remain in the Champions League. It's just a pointless competition for 2nd rate teams that goes on waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. People say yeh but I'd snap your hand off for a place in it but lots of shit clubs compete in it so not really. In recent years Hull, Blackburn, etc, not to mention the foreign ones you've never heard of. They should get rid of it. BTW the Champions League isn't perfect either, even that's got too many teams in.
Tincy Posted 18 May 2016 Posted 18 May 2016 Pete Doherty’s relationship with Kate Moss. Tulisa’s X Factor career. Danniella Westbrook’s nose. And now Liverpool… All destroyed by Coke
Jaspa Posted 18 May 2016 Posted 18 May 2016 How much money do we stand to gain from Liverpools little collapse all together then? And on the Europa League being a waste of time/shit or whatever, I certainly wont be disappointed if we could win it

Dan Posted 18 May 2016 Posted 18 May 2016 Sevilla never ever disappoint in this competition. Thought Liverpool were very good in the first half but I said it at half time - they didn't have enough to show for it, Sevilla were really poor and Liverpool should've been at least two up. Only one winner once Gameiro equalised. That second half from Sevilla was superb to watch, they could've had about six. Cracking side who play some lovely stuff with quality fans. Very fond of them.

I agree with you just a pointless competition, they should add a couple more groups or places in the champions league and scrap the Europa it would also be more of an achievement to winning it and less fixtures overall.

Jimothy Posted 19 May 2016 Posted 19 May 2016 OK kid Who you calling "kid"? When you grow up a bit you might be able to talk down to people, until then jog on boy.

Dodgy Bob Posted 19 May 2016 Posted 19 May 2016 Think it will have to go down as a crap first season by Klopp. I don't like the guy, he seems like a weird lunatic, but I was hoping he might present a style of play that's good to watch - he hasn't. Lots riding on him completely transforming that team over the summer - he won't. Sacked by Valentines Day.

Guest Col city fan Posted 19 May 2016 Posted 19 May 2016 I also think the Europa is a bit of a pointless competition. That said, I've actually enjoyed watching some of the games this season. Liverpool v Dortmund was a good tie. It's too long I think. Too many qualifying rounds, too much group stage etc. It could be knockout from the start maybe. But it's not, due to money. That's the only reason I guess.
filbertway Posted 19 May 2016 Posted 19 May 2016 Pretty sure there's only 2 extra games in comparison to the Champions League so it's hardly the long drawn out competition it's being made out to be by some. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the 3rd place teams being thrown in, but it really doesn't bother me that much. Provides plenty of entertainment and now also, a route into the champions league for teams that don't routinely finish top 2, 3 or 4 of their respective leagues. I never really get peoples snobbery/dismissal of competitions but each to their own. I'd have loved for us to have reached the JPT final when we were in league one. Try and win as much as you possibly can. Finals, titles and promotions provide great memories.
AKCJ Posted 19 May 2016 Posted 19 May 2016 Worth mentioning... Liverpool losing now means that Spurs have to rely on both Porto and Man City losing their qualifiers or they'll be in pot 3.
