LEICESTER A BIG PRICE TO GO 5 UNBEATEN

Recommended Posts

The magic word in sport is momentum and although Leicester’s late season survival surge was plotted a few months ago, the Foxes should still carry some impetus into the new Premier League campaign.

Admittedly a managerial change may have affected things slightly, but looking at Claudio Ranieri’s first five games in charge, it’s fair to say the fixture computer has been kind to the former Chelsea boss.

Three of the Foxes’ first five matches, which are Sunderland (h), West Ham (a), Tottenham (h) Bournemouth (a) and Aston Villa (h), see them play teams that finished below 11th last season, while the Cherries are cutting their Premier League teeth in 2015/16.

Spurs, who were also defeated by Leicester at White Hart Lane in the FA Cup, are the only opponent hailing from the upper half of the 2014/15 standings where they finished fifth.

This information makes Ladbrokes’ special on the Midlanders navigating these fixtures unbeaten very appealing indeed, labelled at handsome odds of 14/1 by the bookmakers.

The Black Cats won just three times on the road last season so as Leicester’s price of 1/1 to win their curtain raiser suggests, defeat doesn’t seem particularly likely.

West Ham will provide a stern test in east London having defeated the Foxes 2-0 at the Boleyn Ground last season, but Slaven Bilic’s Irons have looked unconvincing during their pre-season Europa League escapades and lost the reverse fixture last term.

Tottenham are the clearest danger to this bet’s chances, but Bournemouth will be beatable and Villa were also King Power Stadium victims during Leicester’s initial season back in the big time.

Derbies are usually tight affairs, but with draws as good as wins where this special bet is concerned, it’s certainly conceivable Ranieri takes his team to Stoke on matchday six yet to taste defeat.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.

14/1 to go 5 unbeaten.

14/1 to lose the first 3.

Can't say either tempt me, i'd want a much bigger price either way.

I'll be relatively happy if we can get through these five games without losing by more than 2 goals. West Ham and Spurs seem most likely, but I'm going to go with Bournemouth. I know people will think they'll be happy just to be here but they (oddly enough) won't see it that way. We can't do as badly against them as Birmingham last season (aggregate score of 12-2), but they are quite capable of scoring 3 or 4 against us, what with 2 French midfielders who have only arrived in the country during the previous week, Schlupp being basically bewildered, Vardy not having any service at all thanks to the 2 French midfielders, Kramaric continuing to blaze shots everywhere but at the goal as he did for much of last season (despite having a whole pre-season to get it right), Huth wishing he'd stayed at Stoke and Okazaki having culture shock. Mahrez will be completely anonymous, and Liam Moore will have a nightmare. Again.

14/1 isn't bad but I don't think it'll come in to be honest. Can see Bournemouth turning us over.

On the bright side I do expect us to beat Sunderland 2-0, to place us third equal in the table. Cue general sighs of relief on FT. It will be all downhill from there, I fear. We'll go to West Ham full of confidence, and get stuffed 3-1. It'll be Bournemouth when the sh*t really hits the fan. You watch...

How do you know all this??....you are starting to freak me out. Are you from the future?

14/1 does appeal to me slightly, but I think we will slip up at West Ham.

Leicester 2-1 Sunderland

West Ham 2-0 Leicester

Leicester 1-1 Spurs

Bournemouth 1-1 Leicester

Leicester 1-0 Villa

Goes without saying that this would be a good start to the season.

Bournemouth will see us as an early opportunity for points after 2 difficult fixtures (Liverpool & Wham both away), expect them to be well up for it.  Likewise Wham away will be difficult for us, Spurs is hardly an easy game to get any points from either, so on those 3 alone I'd want better odds than 14/1.

My first post was ironic, sorry. It was based round the fact that (a) we got through the whole of last season without losing by more than two goals, and wondering how long Claudio would go before all that was a distant memory, and (b) the fact that some people are convinced we have an easy start to the season. We don't.

None of the aforementioned post was in fact true in real terms, apart from 'Schlupp being basically bewildered'.

It's the way my mind works.

5 points from first 5 games, is a lower return than last year despite us having the 2nd toughest opening fixtures last season & this season apart from spurs (whom we often beat) play teams that finished mid-table or much lower

I think Bournemouth will surprise people this season 7 wouldn't be surprised to see them reasonably high up the table throughout, their pacey game & chance creation could be similar to how we finished last season, I'm not sure how we'll do, switching a pacey counter-attack no-one could live with for a more tactical, possession based game.

14/1 isn't enough to tempt me & overcome my reservations

14/1 is looking quite nice odds now. I still say i'd have wanted a bigger price than that at the start of the season though, it's easy to say it looks a good price in hindsight.

Anyway just been in Betfred and they were talking us up on their TV's.

They are offering;

5/2 on us finishing in the top 10.

100/1 for us to finish in the top 4.

Again I think i'd want a bigger price on us finishing in the top 10, it's not far away from tempting me but i'm a greedy fucker and 5/2 doesn't quite hit it. Top 4 well I just don't think it'll happen, I hope i'm wrong, I hope that comment bites me on the arse but it's not gonna happen is it?!

Another example of how the Tory policy of Care in the Community fails. :(

I'm happy with Ranieri thus far. To be fair, I had the impression that he would go in like Paolo Sousa and try to get us to play Italian/Spanish/Portuguese football straight away, ignoring everything that's happened in the past. He still might do that, but based on the players he's got at the moment he appears happy to keep our style together. The ideal move for Leicester to get a goal depends on four or five passes in the key areas, not seventeen in midfield trying to wear the opposition down.

I'm genuinely impressed that we've got a win at Upton Park. If he can go on from that and get us wins at Arsenal, Everton and Southampton too, I'll worship him.

:)
