Outrage: Multi-millionaire chairman of football club Nottingham Forest posted a photograph of himself on Instagram, posing with a rifle and a dead ram - the mascot of his team's biggest rivals, Derby County

Mr Al-Hasawi uploaded a second photograph of himself posing with a dead stag.

Furious commenters saw the photographs as a deliberate insult to fans of East Midlands team Derby County.

But supporters of both clubs launched into a furious tirade against Mr Al-Hasawi.

Most of the commenters pointed out that he could not have chosen a worse time, posting the photo just days after an American trophy hunter caused international outrage after shooting Cecil the lion.

Walter palmer is facing extradition to stand trial in Zimbabwe, after he shot the lion – a tourist favourite – at the Hwange Lion Research Project.

Instagram user GemNFFC posted: 'Is that a ram you've murdered? I'm a diehard Forest fan and I find this disgraceful. Have you even got a brain in your skull?

'It's horrible that you'd even post this, nevermind the heartbreaking drama with Cecil the lion. You should be ashamed.'

lol The stupidity of the bloke never fails to crack me up. Is killing defenceless animals and posing with them online the only way certain braindead individuals can get pleasure?

Not really the same is it? The Ram will most likely be eaten whereas the lion won't.

I know. But in a week were there's been a very public outcry over the killing of a defenceless animal he goes a post a picture all over the Internet of him killing a defenceless animal.

Indeed. If you want to visit the animal rights thread though, I'm sure you'll find that there are plenty of vegetarians on FT.

Indeed, and I'm one of them.

I find the moral outrage over this a little hard to stomach when it comes from a carnivore.
