Larry_LCFC Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I don't think it is worthy of sacking. I think it is worthy of some serious education for Vardy, and the rest of the players. Sometimes they will learn a lot more from that than just being shown the door. I don't see it on the same level as the Thai Tape. That was full out humiliation and racism towards the women, with terms that the most sheltered person would understand are racist.
ImBlue Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 What's your problem? I support a zero tolerance approach to racism so if he has to be sacked then so be it. I don't care how good he is at football, i dont want racists representing the club. He wont get sacked though, so chill out. You usually talk a lot of sense, but supporting the sacking of possible our best player because he used the word jap, on a night out after a few drinks in a casino, is just silly. Especially as he has issued an immediate apology.
benpicko Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Well we get called Brits and Australians get called Aussies. How is it any different? Because there aren't any negative connotations attached to those words that I'm aware of. Why do people keep explaining this as if the fact that it's a shortened version that's the issue? It's not.
Molly Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Ever noticed the word Brit is usually used in a derogatory way, "Brits drunk abroad"? So are you now saying that Brit is a derogatory term? I'm confused.
RedSoxUK Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 What's your problem? I support a zero tolerance approach to racism so if he has to be sacked then so be it. I don't care how good he is at football, i dont want racists representing the club. He wont get sacked though, so chill out. There's a difference between being a racist bigot and being faux pas by a monumental Sheffield idiot.
Swiper Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I don't think it is worthy of sacking. I think it is worthy of some serious education for Vardy, and the rest of the players. I don't understand some people trying to equate these two VERY different situations. Both bad, but not on the same level.
smudger63 Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Any one else think he may be sacked? I would very much doubt it. Too much money would be lost by the club. Vardy would then be a free agent, and have a queue of clubs outside his front door winding down the street if he was. I suppose he could be transfer listed as a worse case scenario, but i expect he will be warned to keep his nose clean. I have to say though, that given we sacked the other three for racist comments, then if the club were to be consistent in their actions, then he should be sacked from the club. It would be quite interesting to hear the views of those offended on here, on whether they feel he should be sacked for what they perceive to be a racist comment.
GingerrrFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 So are you now saying that Brit is a derogatory term? I'm confused. What are you confused about? I personally feel that Brit is mainly used as a derogatory term, "typical Brits abroad" for example; it's rarely if ever used in a positive manner.
ImBlue Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 No the Japanese have made it offensive if they, a majority but not all - don't like it as a way to refer to them. Frankly I couldn't give a monkeys if they like it or not. Would it be offensive if he had referred to him as a Japanese?
GingerrrFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Frankly I couldn't give a monkeys if they like it or not. Would it be offensive if he had referred to him as a Japanese? So you don't care if a person doesn't like being called a paki then yeah? That's what you are saying, you don't care what a nation of people find offensive?
ImBlue Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 What are you confused about? I personally feel that Brit is mainly used as a derogatory term, "typical Brits abroad" for example; it's rarely if ever used in a positive manner. It's ignorant and rude to categorise everyone the same, not racist though
Molly Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Just to add. Are we now banning the Wasyl song because we call him a Pole and not Polish? Just needs clearing up What about calling Goalkeepers a no.2
RedSoxUK Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Frankly I couldn't give a monkeys if they like it or not. Would it be offensive if he had referred to him as a Japanese? Yes it would be IMO just as offensive, not necessarily racist, but offensive just as Jap for individualising the bloke.
FireFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Yank - not derogatory Maybe not derogatory, but I find it irritating when people refer to non-NE Americans as Yanks.
GingerrrFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 It's ignorant and rude to categorise everyone the same, not racist though Yeah because last time I checked being British wasn't a race, but being Japanese is. I can't believe I had to explain that to an adult.
RedSoxUK Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Maybe not derogatory, but I find it irritating when people refer to non-NE Americans as Yanks. I find it derogatory when people refer to non Yankees fans from the NE as Yanks.
Babylon Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I find it derogatory when people refer to non Yankees fans from the NE as Yanks.I find Americans offensive full stop. Especially when every single one seemed to think I was Australian.
Molly Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Any one else think he may be sacked? If bennytwohats and a dozen others owned the club - yes.
Harry - LCFC Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I find Americans offensive full stop. Especially when every single one seemed to think I was Australian. Hehe, I got that off someone too. Dunno why that was the nationality they went for, it's not like I had the accent. Do Australians visit America much?
Claridge Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Yeah because last time I checked being British wasn't a race, but being Japanese is. I can't believe I had to explain that to an adult. Gosh your clever.is the milk race British?
Babylon Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Hehe, I got that off someone too. Dunno why that was the nationality they went for, it's not like I had the accent. Do Australians visit America much? Probably because we say "mate" a lot, which seems to be synonymous with the Kangeroo fiddlers (ooh racist). I think they expect us to be all "toodle pip and cheerio me old fellow" instead.
Molly Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 What are you confused about? I personally feel that Brit is mainly used as a derogatory term, "typical Brits abroad" for example; it's rarely if ever used in a positive manner. 80's Brit pop was world reknowned.
RedSoxUK Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Yeah because last time I checked being British wasn't a race, but being Japanese is. I can't believe I had to explain that to an adult. You've been good in your distinctions between the offence for Pakistani being different to Japanese - but Japanese isn't a race, nor is British. These are ethnicities. Vardy used an ethnic slur. I find Americans offensive full stop. Especially when every single one seemed to think I was Australian. I'm not a yankee, i'm a limey.
