Master Fox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 "England footballer Jamie Vardy apologies for going to a casino in the off season where he may or may not have said something"
Guest bennytwohats Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 What he said was clearly done in a derogatory way. No different from when John Terry called Anton Ferdinand a black ****. Being described as black in itself is not a bad thing - but in that context it was. It's even less clearcut with 'Jap', which is (whether intended or not) an offensive term with racial undertones. It's inexcusable for an ambassador of our club to go around saying these kind of things. Been a great player for us but personally would rather not have our club associated with this kind of shit. Especially after what has just gone down this summer - how could he be so stupid?! Could not give two shits if they threw the book at Vardy and told him to piss off tbh. It's typical of most of our fan base to jump and defend him, no less than I would expect having seen some of the ignorant, bigoted shit that gets posted on here.
lcfcdamo Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I really do think there is a 50% chance he is saying chap it makes a lot more sense if u listen to the video it really could be any i hate the so negative people on here the only thing wrong is his aggressive behaviour that is all I really do think there is a 50% chance he is saying chap it makes a lot more sense if u listen to the video it really could be any i hate the so negative people on here the only thing wrong is his aggressive behaviour that is all
LanguedocFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 The bit your missing is when vardy calls him a Jap. Must be something wrong with my hearing then. At what point does he do that? Not being funny - the quality on that recording is so bad I can't hear anything.

I'm not defending Vardy, but if he did call someone a "Jap" - and I've watched the video a couple of times and can't hear it - it's light years away from Terry calling Anton Ferdinand a "black cvnt".
ealingfox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Well now he has apologised and called it an error in judgement we can't argue that he didn't say Jap anymore. This is so fvcking annoying. What the hell is going on with us? I'd agree it's not nearly as bad as the Thailand incident though.
Jattdogg Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 He never apologized for using the term just a general apology which could be for his behaviour or both. Ultimately the club need to discuss those details with vardy and make a decision on any potential punishments whatever they might be. If he has said he term then surely he must be suspended for a short while. i dont think this is comparable to thailand incident but you cant just sweep racism under the rug and act like "im sorry" is ok. Considering terry is still on chelsea im sure vardy will be at lcfc too. The only difference is our owners are asian and could take offense generally speaking.

How? It's no different at all - both are an example of identifying someone through race in a derogatory way. If you switch them around and have one saying 'oi black, walk on' or someone calling someone a 'jap ****' they are equally abhorrent and completely unacceptable.

Guest bennytwohats Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 jap is a nationality, black is a race. oi Belgian, walk on, isn't offensive to de laet. Firstly Japanese is a nationality, Jap is a racial slur. Completely different things. The fact is, as above, it's about context - the context in that video is clearly meant in a derogatory way. Walk on Brit! #racist Walk on p@ki? Not racist?
Stevosevic Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 There goes any chance he had of more England caps.

Innocent until proven guilty Adam johnsons being done for being a nonce and he played yesterday

I'm sure it's an abbreviation, my names Stuart I get called stu it's the same thing
matty98 Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 'Jap' isn't a racist term however from the video it appears Vardy meant it in an offensive way unfortunately which does make it racist imo
Illusion35 Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I agree - black is a reference to race/colour not nationality. Plus in the Terry incident he associated black with an offensive swear word. Vardy said 'Oi Jap walk on'. If I was in a casino abroad and someone said 'Oi Brit, go home!' Is this racist?
Guest bennytwohats Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I'm sure it's an abbreviation, my names Stuart I get called stu it's the same thing If you genuinely think that's the same thing then there is no point arguing with you. But the FACT is, regardless of what it means to you, the word has racial connotations more widely. So regardless if you were offended or whether you can't see a problem with it, some people are offended, the term is offensive, he shouldn't have used it. Jap is a racial slur with racial connotations. Exactly the same as P@ki. Both are abbreviations of the nationality. Neither would be fine to say in that context. It's really disappointing to have to spell this out.
SecretPro Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Good job we have Ulloa and Kramaric on the bench.
digitalalba Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 "It was a regrettable error in judgement I take full responsibility for and I accept my behaviour was not up to what's expected of me." 'regrettable error in judgement' strikes me as he's said something he feels he 'shouldn't of', rather than a physical behavioral thing.
Guest bennytwohats Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I agree - black is a reference to race/colour not nationality. Plus in the Terry incident he associated black with an offensive swear word. Vardy said 'Oi Jap walk on'. If I was in a casino abroad and someone said 'Oi Brit, go home!' Is this racist? Again, it's not the same. If you said to someone Oi P@ki, go home - would you think that was racist? It's a much more accurate comparison. That's putting aside the fact that with all probability Vardy has no idea whether the guy was Japanese and most likely using the term as a proxy for someone of Asian appearance. Doesn't really matter - either way it's completely unacceptable.

People have been calling Bayer Leverkusen krauts in the Aranguiz thread for past month. Dont see you in that thread calling everybody racist.
