lgfualol Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Christ. This is not good at all, especially for Thai tourism.
johnny the fox Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 muslim separatists attacking buddhist shrine ...
Wymsey Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Don't want to start speculation but don't believe it's to do with IS.
Steven Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Don't want to start speculation but don't believe it's to do with IS. The motorcycle bomb is the trademark of Southern Separatists. Who knows?
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Oh my God! What a bloody awful world we live in.
purpleronnie Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Oh my God! What a bloody awful world we live in. Glass Half empty kinda fella aren't you DT?.
norwichfox Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 What horrible scum could perpetrate this? Sickening to the pit of my stomach....and sadly getting all to familiar across the Globe. My condolences to the Families that have lost loved ones.
BoneDog Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 muslim separatists attacking buddhist shrine ... It looks like they were targeting innocent bystanders and tourists more than the shrine itself. Don't know if the shrine was attacked but the pictures I've seen seem to show that the motorbike/s exploded in the middle of the road. There were probably alot of tourists outside taking pictures of the shrine or admiring it when this happened.
stix Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 From what I read, another bomb was found and diffused inside the shrine building. I think there were reports of a 3rd as well on a train.
cambridgefox Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 The motorcycle bomb is the trademark of Southern Separatists. Who knows?im swaying towards that, often a few run ins and often a political tightrope being walked.Think I can remember a few hand grenades being thrown in the past, but this ups the level if that is the case.Very concerning.
Wymsey Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-33969621 Seems like a youngster has done it, reminds me of the youth in the Boston marathon bombings.

Bobby Hundreds Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Heartbreaking stuff, it's the best city I've ever been to. It's mind-bogglingly sickening at how nonchalantly the bomber has walked up to such a crowded spot and left a bomb knowing full well the devastation it would cause. I was in Samui in April when a car bomb went off and it was nothing like this, the Malay separatists never really seem intent on killing or maiming civilians. It seems there's a lot of speculation it could be a group linked to the Uighurs, but it still seems an incredibly extreme reaction to the deportations that occurred last month.
Frank to be Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 They've brought an Australian in for questioning who matches the cctv images of the guy who left the back pack. It's a strange one, doesn't match with typical Thai political violence. Hard to imagine what motive a random Australian would have in carrying out such an attack.
Alf Bentley Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 They've brought an Australian in for questioning who matches the cctv images of the guy who left the back pack. It's a strange one, doesn't match with typical Thai political violence. Hard to imagine what motive a random Australian would have in carrying out such an attack. The bloke in the CCTV footage, shown leaving a backpack at the scene, looked SE Asian to me. If it's the same bloke, maybe an Australian of Thai (or other SE Asian) origin? Even 25 years ago, when I visited Australia, there were a lot of people of SE Asian origin living in Australia. No doubt a few are involved in extremism, as a few from Pakistani families etc are in this country?

It looks like Australian has actually gone to police himself because he looks similar to the guy in the cctv images, so it's probably not himwww.khaosod.co.th/upload/files/1439889099_11911194_986369648091789_312817707_n.jpg
