Carl the Llama Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 As much as I hate to say it but no player will ever be world class whilst playing for Leicester! ! The club is not big enough for him to get that much recognition! Yes he is a good player but until he moves to a bigger team and performs at a high standard playing champions league football then sane people might have this debate! Banks & Lineker might have a thing or two to say about that...
Foxfromburbage Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Peter Shilton & Gordon Banks - World class goalkeepers
Callabinho Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 The term "world class" is thrown around far too much. There's only one true world class player around today, and that's Messi.
Littletoe Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 My opinion is you have a two tier of World Class.1. The very best player(s) - Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi2. World Class Second Tier - Suarez, Neymar, Bale, Hazard, Robben, Toure, Neuer, Iniesta, Catermole etc...Love Mahrez, but he isn't nowhere near that second bracket YET. Potentially, YES.

fridoux Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 the only difference between a good and a wrold class player is that the world class player repeat his perfrmence every single week.Â
Wymsey Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 the only difference between a good and a wrold class player is that the world class player repeat his perfrmence every single week. This, and where the player performs at his greatest with different clubs too.  (Like Cambiasso and Suarez.)
Guest Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 World class surely means that they'd be in a world's best squad. Â Deffo not Rooney.
Freesolo Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Quality/Consistency/Character/Test of time & Trophies
Weller in Tights Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 I tend to think of it as players that would fit into a squad of the 23 best players in the world. I think on similar lines. Sadly I can't think of an English player that could get into that squad. Rooney perhaps did in the past, but he would struggle now. I'm open to change my mind if someone can argue a good case for an English player to make a World 23.
thegaffa Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Quality/Consistency/Character/Test of time & Trophies The above definitely but one of the most important attributes is consistency in correct decision making.... For example something like game management of controlling the game through dictating play and tempo / or a forward like aguero for example who displays an ability to find time and space in the box where there doesn't seem to be. With regards to Riyad, yes he has good ability and potential but ultimately his decision making currently is one of his biggest weaknesses. In my opinion the last three world class English players where Ashley cole as he was for many years the best LB in the world, gerrard and scholes however both of these where not used correctly by the England managers. Appreciate your thoughts on this , am I talking s**t or some kind of sense?

Always in utds team when they dominated english football. The only player that xavi, inestia and zidane would love to have played with and can't praise highly enough. That's how highly they rated him. Only england couldn't see it.

I think Joe Hart may be in with a shout. He's fairly consistent as a GK. Prospect wise, Stones and Kane are the two that stand out for me. I can see both leaving their respective clubs next summer for large transfer fees. Stones reminds me of Maldini in the way he plays the game. Kane is just a goal poacher. People say Rooneys record won't be broken, I beg to differ as he has a natural eye for goal. He's a finisher.
Bryn Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 World class means capable of excelling at the very highest, international, level consistently. Not only competing at that level but standing out, putting in performances of greater quality than players around them. It's hard to gauge that in football as it's a team sport but I think you have to demonstrate excellence in continental club competitions or the World Cup or a international tournament of a top standard, probably the European Championships and the Copa America. I think world class is something a player demonstrates with their achievements, not something they possess inherently. It would be impossible for Mahrez to declare himself as world class any time soon.
Foreverfox Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 You know your world class when every football fan on the globe knows your name. How many fans in other country's have heard of our Mahrez? not that many i would say.

I dont think it'll be long.. given his superb start to the season and that Arsenal and Barca have been sniffing around.
Guest Posted 10 September 2015 Posted 10 September 2015 Quality/Consistency/Character/Test of time & Trophies Trophies not really a fair aspect of I dont think. You can get world class players in bad clubs/countries. 1 man can't do it all after all.
MC Prussian Posted 10 September 2015 Posted 10 September 2015 Individual class or quality no matter what position you play in, intelligence (on and off the field) coupled with a constant positive hunger for success (because sometimes. passion and ambition can make you turn the other way), assisted and nurtured by great managers and teammates alike. Â Of course, a decent and humble personality comes in handy, too.Â
