Rincewind Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 At the food project we had a customer respond with the comment 'how good the food was and at restaurant standard' The organiser said 'what do they normally eat? The food we do is nothing special, it can be made very cheaply'
Stadt Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Imo we should encourage really fat people to get more fat then we'll sell the fat people to starving Africans so they don't get kwashiorkor because they've got fat michelle from Salford to consume
Bryn Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 They cant get Tax from, the Large super IT businesses, so why should Mr Norm have a sugar forced on him. James Oliver, maybe a good cook, but makes a lousey social Science analyst. The English virus of creating phobias over social problems, habits , lifestyles, is a sickness within itself. Celebs who suggest to the government, that A, B, C should be taxed, should automatically be taxed themselves an Extra 2% stupidity tax. I have had cronic arthritus for over 18 yrs, after years of sport then adventure Trekking, I now cant walk 5km without getting blisters, I am in constant pain. Now suffer from Neuropathy. This doesnt stop me walking a little, nor does it stop me cycling, sometimes a few trips of 40km+ per day, and the occasional 80-120 per day, ca every 7 weeks. It takes me longer to get out of or up froma sitting position.I cant kneel or crouch.I have Diabetes II since 14 years, not because of lazyness, lack of movement, or too many cakes or sweets.I did occasionally go over the top with nights-out, but never got drunk, if I ate alot at a party because of the savoury goodies, or yes sherry trifles, but wouldnt do it everyday, every week, Where I could I would excercise . I know many people who, are/were fit and kept their weight in positive boundaries, but suddenly discovered they had become type 2 diabetes sufferers. Many were hit after 40yrs of age, some after operations. I have now become overweight but not obese, but again quite a few I know are not breaking the scales. I have gone to many seminars and rehabs in Germany, to learn about my illness, and the Pankreas itself. At present I have a big feeling the info and media plstforms in the Uk are lacking, and making easy statements. If you have type 2 diabetes your problem has absolutely nothing to do with your pancreas.
JonnyBoy Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 No it's absolutely pathetic, putting tax on things won't stop people from buying harribo's. On another note Jamie Oliver is a massive ****. There should be a Jamie Oliver tax
The Horse's Mouth Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 we definitely should and while we're at it we should tax the amount of oxygen we consume
The Guvnor Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 A sugar tax will not make a shite of difference to the current obesity problem with kids. Unfortunately it's all down to their sedentary life style, kids plant their arses on a chair then play on their X box for hours combined with high fat diets of maccies and pizza. The days when you had a meat and three veg meal on the table and liked it or went without have long gone.
Frank to be Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Not against in principle, but I would rather see VAT reduced on healthy sugar free/ low calorie goods Most food already is zero rated for VAT. Confectionary is not, so effectively there already is a form of a sugar tax. I'm in favour of it myself. Meat products should also attract higher tax.
Captain... Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Yeah, people would stop buying Mars bars if only lettuce was cheaper. That's not what I said though is it, make healthier food cheaper, make gyms and sport facilities cheaper, make it easier to be healthier so that those that are trying to be healthy but don't have much money can. You can't stop someone eating shit food and being lazy, but those that want to be healthy should be helped.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 No, every fat person i know drinks sugar free drinks! Its penalizing the skinny folk!Yeah at work then they go home an eat one of those Christmas tubs of Quantity Street they don't declare thatI've known people at work that show off a healthy looking salad they have for lunch and come in every day every year with a massive gut and horrible saggy fat arse. Bet as soon as they're in the car they've got all sorts of Mountain Dew and Dorito spit dribbling down their shirt
fuchsntf Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 If you have type 2 diabetes your problem has absolutely nothing to do with your pancreas. Diabetes typ 2 developes when the body becomes resistant to Insulin, or the pancreas stops producing enough Insulin or when it secretes insulin the body is unable to to recognise it or use it properly. So in your opinion all experts in England and Germany, have been dishing out bullshit all these years. I need to inject insulin, and being its the pancreas thats the organ responsible in producing Insulin and distrubuting it, I must be an Alien where my extra heart becomes responsible. I have suffered from both very low and high diabetes shocks, hypoglycemia/hypersmolar being low or high level glucose or sugar. So now tell me that the pancreas/pankreas has nothing to do with Diabetes mellitus type II.
fuchsntf Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 It is when it pays for your healthcare You the worker pays for your welfarec and healthcare, not the UK govertnment.NHS is not free, the wotkers collected funds pay for it..Politicians mis-use it..

There's the problem though. People with no diet self control pay in roughly what a normal person would, but is far more likely to take considerably more back - surely it could be made fairer by taxing foods/drinks that contribute to diabetes and heart problems? Smokers foot their own health bills by the tens of thousands in tax they pay in over their lifetime, why shouldn't people who eat gateaux for breakfast?

Smokers foot their own health bills by the tens of thousands in tax they pay in over their lifetime, why shouldn't people who eat gateaux for breakfast? I know of many communities, where they eat Danish, or cakes for breakfast (not every day) and dont suffer from sugar problems.or obesity LOOK AT the so called english breakfast. There is also the sugar to fat and fat to sugar conversions to consider. In reasonable fit people, or healthy type, those people wont hardly be hit by these problems. But this is the croix o the matter, what is fit and healthy ???? Diabetes is being describes has a lifestyle modern illness problem...WRONG. Macedonia, Greek, Roman, Inca, Toltec, Aztec empires suffered from it and not only the affluent. YES, unfit, lack of mobility, overweight people COULD be contenders for many illnesses involving sugar/diabetes, plus many other ailments, but again not all. Like Black, coloured, white anemics, orientals, Asian, Albinos, S.American indians , Caucasian You can see the physical different, charactereristics, so modern peoples box them, and racism becomes a virus. ITS easy forgotten some healthy looking people, also break dietary rules, and lifestyle norm that cause illnesses, some terminal, so should we start taxing, every misendemours of individual/group lifestyles on health principals. Some people are born with eating/drinking dis-orders, some create unknowingly their own. Some have addictions, some have allergies. In fact we could tax everybody who decides to eat grapefruits and limes when on medicines. People forced to pay for their or other peoples illnesses through forced taxation , now theres a thing.
AyewJoking Posted 25 October 2015 Posted 25 October 2015 What the hell there is sugar in Coke? Damn try coke zero, same great taste although why bother making the original if zero tastes the same and i assume it is cheaper to make as they dont need sugar??
Guest Posted 25 October 2015 Posted 25 October 2015 I'd be happy to pay more for sugary things if I knew the money was being directly used to subsidise healthier foods and make them cheaper, it won't happen but it's nice to dream
Captain... Posted 25 October 2015 Posted 25 October 2015 try coke zero, same great taste although why bother making the original if zero tastes the same and i assume it is cheaper to make as they dont need sugar?? They need aspartamine (sp), a synthetic sweetener which probably costs the same as sugar, if not more. I think what someone up there said would be fair on soft drinks, put VAT on full sugar drinks but subsidise sugar free/zero calorie drinks, so a can of bottle of Coke is about £2 and the same bottle of Diet Coke is about £1
Guest Col city fan Posted 26 October 2015 Posted 26 October 2015 If you have type 2 diabetes your problem has absolutely nothing to do with your pancreas. Can't believe I've just read that!
Darkon84 Posted 26 October 2015 Posted 26 October 2015 Absolutely daft idea. It won't put people off having sugary foods/drinks at all, they'll still pay for it, or at least get a cheaper alternative. It would be an unfair tax on the people who actually eat and drink responsibly. why is a tax needed anyway? Surely adults are capable of looking after themselves and making the correct decisions to eat/drink moderately and healthily? Adults and parents should take greater responsibility.
Rincewind Posted 26 October 2015 Posted 26 October 2015 What about beer brewers? Sugar is just a part of the process for the end product which is not for people with a sweet tooth.Beer is already taxed enough.
MPH Posted 26 October 2015 Posted 26 October 2015 What about beer brewers? Sugar is just a part of the process for the end product which is not for people with a sweet tooth.Beer is already taxed enough. 10p extra on the pint, Ken. Sorry to be the one to break it to you....
ozleicester Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 Given the WHO report... should we have a Bacon tax?
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 Given the WHO report... should we have a Bacon tax? It'll go from £1.50 for 6 rashers to about £10 and packaging will look like this I reckon
Darkon84 Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 Bacon could come with broken glass in it and I'd love it!
