I was interested to know City's post-war record of conceding 10 or more goals in successive league matches. It seems to have happened eight times, although the last time they conceded 11 in two games before yesterday's capitulation was in 1954. These are the pairs of games:-

11 goals    12/01/46  1-7  Chelsea  H          &   19/01/46   0-4  Chelsea  A

11 goals    26/01/46  4-5  Arsenal   H          &    02/02/46  2-6  Millwall  H

11 goals    02/01/54  1-7  Leeds   A             &   16/01/54   3-4  Birmingham H

13 goals    03/09/55  1-7  Lincoln   A           &   05/09/55   2-6  Doncaster  A

10 goals    26/08/58  0-5  Blackburn   A      &   30/08/58   1-5  Arsenal  A

10 goals    13/09/80  0-5  Man Utd   A        &   20/09/80   0-5  Nottm For  A

10  goals   24/09/10  1-6  Portsmouth  A    &    28/09/10  3-4  Norwich  A

11  goals   04/09/22  2-5  Brighton  A         &    17/09/22  2-6  Tottenham  A

I remember going to the shitty ground in 1980, a week after losing 5-0 at Old Trafford, and thinking it can't be as bad as last week. It was! .5-0 again.

Jock Wallace's newly promoted young side totally outplayed on a thoroughly depressing afternoon. I still feel  mentally scarred.

I had another check through, and there was a 2-6 defeat at OT on 16/1/99, but the PL games either side were both 0-0. City letting in 10 or more goals in two successive league games seems to be quite a rare thing, with only three instances in the last 60 years, I think. That's perhaps a measure of how poor they have been under BR recently.

You two are talking past each other! @st albans fox and @String fellow

St. Albans - as you say, United did concede 11 in two games in the autumn of 1996 - losing 5-0 at Newcastle then 6-3 at Southampton. Happy days.

String - you thought he meant United goals against Leicester, right? That 6-2 in 1999 with, as you say, a 0-0 before and after.

Tbh, because I was only focussed on our record against others, I'd subconciously disregarded the records of other clubs, on the basis that that would have been too big a task to consider.

Against spurs for the first time in more than two-and-a-half years, since a 3-0 win over Newcastle on New Year’s Day 2020, Ndidi did not complete a single tackle in a Premier League match he started. He also committed three fouls, the most of any player on the pitch.

Youri Tielemans’ first half by numbers vs. Nottingham Forest:

92% pass accuracy

44 touches

36/39 passes completed

15/18 final third passes completed

5 ball recoveries

1 key pass

This in a team that has only won one games as well this season and was pretty bad for most of last season as well.

Maddison enjoyed a 91% pass completion rate against Forest, as well as playing four key passes and winning more duels than any player on the pitch, in what was an immense all-round showing – there are also few better free-kick takers in Europe at the moment.

Despite our position, only 5 teams have scored more league goals than us. Arsenal, Man City, Tottenham, Liverpool and Brentford.

3 out of the 5 have played us, so unless we can improve our defending, that list will be longer as the season progresses.
