talking_goldfish Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 As we are approaching the business end of the season I thought I'd share an update of my Premier League Form Table. As you can see, our 6-game form point average is currently quite low at 1.5 which only puts us 9th in the current form table. However, even with present form, assuming everyone else keeps performing to their current form we'd still finish the table in 3rd place! If we beat Liverpool that would take our form points per game up to 2.0, which would see us in a much healthier position. On current form, no team is on to finish with 79 points, the highest being Spurs with 75 points. We'd need to achieve a 2.13 points per game average between now and the end of the season to be able to reach this milestone set by Don Claudio.Still, I'd happily take a 3rd place finish, which would see us happily into the Champions League.
Rocket-Ron Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 The problem is that if we finish in a champions league place it could be ruined if spurs win the league. I really don't like Tottenham

I really don't like Tottenham If we finish 3rd in the Premier League I really couldn't care less who wins the league. Saying that, I don't for one second believe it will be Spurs. If Spurs do by some miracle go all the way in their 3 competitions (PL, FA Cup, Europe) then they could potentially still have 29 games to play this season, adding to that they still have some pretty tough games coming up (they have all of the Top 10 left to play, except Leicester, and we all know what happened there!)
Fox Ulike Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 Being lazy here, but does anyone know what position we need to finish to get straight into the Champions League group stages?, rather than going through the qualifying rounds?

I too have decided to do some analysis of our form taking my stats and data from the beginning of the season.... it makes for some interesting and compelling viewing .... By my reckoning (and bear with me cus I may have not added things up correctly)... but .... We are top of the league by 3 points !!!!!! Yeaahhhh !! (Is everybody happy with CountryFox or should I change it to SarcasticB*stard ??)

Fox Ulike Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 WHAT!? you seriously don't know that?? Well believe it or not up until recently I didn't give a fudd about the Champions League and how to qualify for it. I think it's boring. I couldn't even tell you who won it last year.
Livid Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 Stretch it back to 7 games we're 6th, 8 games and we're 3rd, 9 games and we're top. http://www.footstats.co.uk/index.cfm?task=formguide

I couldn't even tell you who won it last year. You're not alone. I have no idea about any of these strikers we are getting linked with. I'll have matches on the TV but really if it's not Leicester or doesn't affect Leicester I really don't care.
Robo61 Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 Whilst making mildley interesting reading I am not sure how useful form guide is in helping us determine where we might finish. For instance, in the last six matches we have played 4 of the the top 10 and Spurs have played just 2. If we look at our games against the teams Spurs have played in that period, then we beat all of them giving an average of 3 points per game.

I imagine it could be partly useful in looking at ours and our challengers immediately upcoming fixtures and the form of teams they'd be playing against. For example, it you were to play any 3 teams right now, you'd probably want Palace, Norwich and.... I'd say West Brom.

Robo61 Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 At some point it stops becoming form The problem is the smaller the number of games we include the less it is about "form"and more about the quality of the opposition teams happened to have played during that period. For me going back only six games is no indicator of how each team is currently performing unless some account is taken of the oppostion.
ThaiFox Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 The problem is that if we finish in a champions league place it could be ruined if spurs win the league. I really don't like Tottenham Totally agree. I loathe Tottingham with a passion. If we did win the league and they were second I could cope with that though! The good thing is, we have 15 straight P/L matches with no distractions. All the other teams around us could be playing another 10+ matches. Here's a question. If you were Klopp, which match would you prioritize? Stoke in the league cup semi? West Ham in the FA cup? Or Leicester in the P/L? I doubt the same team will play all three matches and they have realistic chances of winning both the L/C and FA cup. All the managers around us are going to have a lot of tough team selections whilst we have a clear run. They will also be more prone to pick up injuries, tiredness and suspensions. All good for us!

WesMorganGod Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 The thing is this is football and its totally unpredictable. for instance we could beat Arsenal away but we could lose to Watford away, for sure that could happen, anything can happen. The biggest factor is coming up Arsenal, Man City and Spurs all have big European games and FA games. But we have none of that, we are free to just focus on the prem games, and we will be much fresher than all of them and prepared. its a huge thing in our favour. we are top while the other 3 have had their european break!!!!!!. but very soon European matches are starting for those 3 again.

True. We might have a tough 3 games coming up - but that's followed by 9 games that you'd expect us to win most of them. By contrast, Arsenal have got to play Man United and Tottenham away, plus 2 games against Barcalona...

talking_goldfish Posted 4 February 2016 Author Posted 4 February 2016 Looking forward to the update. Because you asked for it... The form table is looking much healthier this week as we've essentially wiped out the Liverpool loss on the 6-game form (DDWDWW) and replaced it with a big 3-pointer (against Liverpool!) This means that we are currently on a 2-point-per-game average, which would see us finishing the season on 78 points - just 1 shy of Claudio's total - but still plenty enough to take top spot with 3 points to spare! We need to maintain 2.07 points-per-game average to see us reach the magical milestone, which is a distinct possibility if Mr Vardy continues to find the net. A quick obvservation from one other team in the table... Palace DLLLLL :crylaugh: Hopefully in the next update the "79 pts at game" column won't show "n/a", alls we need to do is beat Man City...
