JonesLCFC Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/football-league/scout-still-pulling-rabbits-out-of-hats-2265688.html Old article I know but shows how successful he's been everywhere he goes. He was the top scout at Chelsea when they became the best team in Premier League history in the 2004 - 2005 season. And he is obviously currently head of recruitment with us, the most serious 'other' title challenger since the mid 90's. I'm personally of the belief that we have a genuine football genius in him and combined with Raneri's unquestioned tactical genius we could be a dominant force in world football.
ealingfox Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 He's got to be up there but my vote would go to Monchi of Sevilla. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/manchester-city-vs-sevilla-who-needs-moneyball-if-you-have-monchi-a6701616.html
MPH Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 I know this makes me a bit of a boblet.... but its a bit of a pet peeve of mine when people make a statement in a thread and then say 'discuss' at the end of it. Its a message board. what else are we going to do?

Alf Bentley Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 I only found out the other day that he's the brother of Mickey Walsh, who played for Blackpool, Porto (unusually for the time - early 80s) and Republic of Ireland. Older posters may remember Mickey winning Goal of the Season:
MPH Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Ignore? Are you of all people telling someone to ignore something you don't like? But really, its a message board. this is what we do! we discuss what we do and don't like about a certain post! But when it becomes consistently about the poster i think is when we overstep the mark...

Danizen Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Steve Walsh Sr. makes it sound like he's his dad. He's not, is he?

Know I bang on about it a bit but the model at Sevilla is superb and so many clubs could learn from it. They have sustained themselves as a European contender on excellent scouting. I genuinely believe we're the nearest thing to it in England though and give it a few years, maybe we could achieve similar. It's why I think it's imperative we hang onto Walsh and his team.

Agree with this. Think we'll have similar scouting tactics to Seville but more money which is a lethal combo.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 The amount of talent Walsh and the other scouts have bought through to the club is incredible. Vardy, Mahrez, Kante, Okazaki, Fuchs etc. The balance between their scouting qualities and Ranieri's top tactics is probably one of the main reasons we are where we are. Then there's the key aspect of how well every player has played this season. Everyone has been top notch throughout really.
foxoffderby Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 I was reading Steve Walsh's Bio the other day 50 shades. He mentions Steve Walsh Snr too from his Preston days and spoke very highly of him then.
Dan Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Reading pulled some good ones out the bag a while back. Didn't Shane Long & Kevin Doyle cost them about £100k combined and they were sold on for about £13mil?

Didn't Shane Long & Kevin Doyle cost them about £100k combined and they were sold on for about £13mil? Yep and Everton got quite a few snips as well during the Moyes era. I think the difference is that the potential profit we could make on Mahrez, Kante, Drinkwater, Vardy, Gray and Albrighton far outweighs whatever those clubs could have ever hoped for with their players.
boots60 Posted 29 January 2016 Posted 29 January 2016 Was reading an article in "When Saturday comes" the other day regarding City's scouting network. Had to stop when Steve Walsh was described as "ex City legend"!! Doesn't take a lot to become a journalist these days. By the way, nowt wrong with ending a message with the word "discuss"
